Serious side effects of Quadramet

Along with its needed effects, samarium sm 153 lexidronam (the active ingredient contained in Quadramet) may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur while taking samarium sm 153 lexidronam:

More common

  • black, tarry stools
  • bleeding gums
  • blood in the urine or stools
  • chest pain
  • chills
  • cough
  • dizziness
  • fainting
  • fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat
  • fever
  • hoarseness
  • lower back or side pain
  • painful or difficult urination
  • pinpoint red spots on the skin
  • sore throat
  • sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or in the mouth
  • swollen glands
  • unusual bleeding or bruising
  • unusual tiredness or weakness
  • worsening of pain, temporary

Less common

  • bloody nose
  • blurred vision
  • confusion
  • cough producing mucus
  • difficulty breathing
  • difficulty in speaking
  • dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  • double vision
  • headache
  • inability to move the arms, legs, or facial muscles
  • inability to speak
  • large, flat, blue or purplish patches in the skin
  • nervousness
  • pain or swelling in the arms or legs without any injury
  • pounding in the ears
  • problems with bleeding or clotting
  • slow speech
  • swollen, painful, or tender lymph glands in the neck, armpit, or groin
  • tightness in the chest

Rare

  • arm, back, or jaw pain
  • chest discomfort
  • decreased urine output
  • dilated neck veins
  • extreme weakness or tiredness
  • irregular breathing
  • nausea
  • swelling of the face, fingers, feet, or lower legs
  • weight gain

Other side effects of Quadramet

Some side effects of samarium sm 153 lexidronam may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine.   • diarrhea
  • loss of strength or energy
  • muscle pain or weakness
  • stomach pain
  • vomiting

Less common

  • burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings

Rare

  • loss or thinning of hair
