Trichophyton skin test Pregnancy Warnings
Use is not recommended unless clearly needed.
US FDA pregnancy category: C
Comments:
-Immunologic suppressive action can occur during pregnancy, possibly making allergy test results inaccurate.
Animal studies have not been conducted. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy. Studies indicate no increase in fetal or maternal risk with cautious immunotherapy treatment during pregnancy, making it unlikely that this extract administered by skin test will be harmful. However, based on histamine's known ability to contract uterine muscle, extensive testing, with it's possibility of histamine release, should be avoided during pregnancy.
US FDA pregnancy category C: Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.
