Ranitidine bismuth citrate in combination with clarithromycin has been assigned to pregnancy category C by the FDA. Clarithromycin is assigned to pregnancy category C while ranitidine is assigned to pregnancy category B. Animal studies failed to reveal evidence of teratogenicity for ranitidine bismuth citrate. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy. Ranitidine bismuth citrate is only recommended for use during pregnancy when benefit outweighs risk.
