The cost of Luxturna is $850,000 per a one-time treatment; however, the manufacturer states it is offering outcomes-based pricing and other innovative payment tools to lessen the cost of treatment to insurers and patients.

In December 2017 Luxturna (voretigene neparvovec-rzyl), a form of gene therapy, was FDA-approved to treat a rare group of inherited vision disorders known as biallelic RPE65-mediated inherited retinal disease (IRD).

Luxturna is an adeno-associated viral (AAV) vector gene therapy tested in studies and given by subretinal injection to directly deliver a normal copy of the RPE65 gene directly into the eye. Biallelic RPE65-mediated inherited retinal disease can lead to blindness and occurs in roughly 1,000 to 2,000 people in the U.S.
