Drug Interaction Report
3 potential interactions and/or warnings found for the following 2 drugs:
- didanosine
- Rebetol (ribavirin)
Interactions between your drugs
didanosine ribavirin
Applies to: didanosine, Rebetol (ribavirin)
Using didanosine together with ribavirin is not recommended. Combining these medications can increase the blood levels of didanosine to dangerous levels. This may increase the risk of severe injury to the pancreas, liver, muscles, and nerves. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Drug and food interactions
didanosine food
Applies to: didanosine
Food decreases the levels of didanosine in your body. Take didanosine on an empty stomach at least 30 minutes before or 2 hours after a meal. This will make it easier for your body to absorb the medication. Do not crush, chew, break, or open a delayed-release capsule (Videx EC). Swallow the pill whole. It is specially made to release medicine slowly in the body. Breaking or opening the pill would cause too much of the drug to be released at one time.
ribavirin food
Applies to: Rebetol (ribavirin)
Food can enhance the levels of ribavirin in your body. Ribavirin should be taken with food or just after eating. This will make it easier for your body to absorb the medication. Do not take it on an empty stomach. Swallow the tablet or capsule whole.
Therapeutic duplication warnings
No duplication warnings were found for your selected drugs.
Therapeutic duplication warnings are only returned when drugs within the same group exceed the recommended therapeutic duplication maximum.
