7 potential interactions and/or warnings found for the following 2 drugs:
- Sotalol Hydrochloride AF (sotalol)
- Y-Cof DM (dexbrompheniramine / dextromethorphan / phenylephrine)
Interactions between your drugs
dextromethorphan dexbrompheniramine
Applies to: Y-Cof DM (dexbrompheniramine / dextromethorphan / phenylephrine), Y-Cof DM (dexbrompheniramine / dextromethorphan / phenylephrine)
Using dextromethorphan together with dexbrompheniramine may increase side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, and difficulty concentrating. Some people, especially the elderly, may also experience impairment in thinking, judgment, and motor coordination. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with these medications. Also avoid activities requiring mental alertness such as driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medications affect you. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
sotalol phenylephrine
Applies to: Sotalol Hydrochloride AF (sotalol), Y-Cof DM (dexbrompheniramine / dextromethorphan / phenylephrine)
Using phenylephrine together with a beta-blocker like sotalol may lead to an increase in blood pressure. Some beta-blockers may enhance the effects of phenylephrine, which can lead to constriction of your blood vessels and an increase in blood pressure. Contact your doctor if your condition changes. You may need a dose adjustment or your blood pressure checked more often if you use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Drug and food interactions
dextromethorphan food
Applies to: Y-Cof DM (dexbrompheniramine / dextromethorphan / phenylephrine)
Alcohol can increase the nervous system side effects of dextromethorphan such as dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. Some people may also experience impairment in thinking and judgment. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with dextromethorphan. Do not use more than the recommended dose of dextromethorphan, and avoid activities requiring mental alertness such as driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medication affects you. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns.
dexbrompheniramine food
Applies to: Y-Cof DM (dexbrompheniramine / dextromethorphan / phenylephrine)
Alcohol can increase the nervous system side effects of dexbrompheniramine such as dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. Some people may also experience impairment in thinking and judgment. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with dexbrompheniramine. Do not use more than the recommended dose of dexbrompheniramine, and avoid activities requiring mental alertness such as driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medication affects you. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns.
sotalol food
Applies to: Sotalol Hydrochloride AF (sotalol)
Sotalol and ethanol may have additive effects in lowering your blood pressure. You may experience headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, and/or changes in pulse or heart rate. These side effects are most likely to be seen at the beginning of treatment, following a dose increase, or when treatment is restarted after an interruption. Let your doctor know if you develop these symptoms and they do not go away after a few days or they become troublesome. Avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medications affect you, and use caution when getting up from a sitting or lying position. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
sotalol food
Applies to: Sotalol Hydrochloride AF (sotalol)
Using sotalol together with multivitamin with minerals may decrease the effects of sotalol. Separate the administration times of sotalol and multivitamin with minerals by at least 2 hours. If your doctor does prescribe these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment or special test to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
phenylephrine food
Applies to: Y-Cof DM (dexbrompheniramine / dextromethorphan / phenylephrine)
Both phenylephrine and caffeine can increase blood pressure and heart rate, and combining them may enhance these effects. Talk to your doctor before using these medications, especially if you have a history of high blood pressure or heart disease. You may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring by your doctor to safely use both medications. Contact your doctor if your condition changes or you experience increased side effects. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
