Rufinamide may reduce the blood levels and effects of amiodarone. Contact your doctor if your symptoms worsen or your condition changes during treatment with these medications. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact, or you may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Amiodarone may be taken with or without food but should be taken at the same way each time. You should avoid consuming grapefruits and grapefruit juice while taking amiodarone. Do not increase or decrease the amount of grapefruit products in your diet without first talking to your doctor. Grapefruit can raise the levels of amiodarone in your body and lead to dangerous side effects. This can affect the rhythm of your heart. Call your doctor if you have symptoms of irregular heartbeat, chest tightness, blurred vision or nausea.

Food can enhance the levels of rufinamide in your body. To ensure maximal oral absorption, rufinamide should be administered with or immediately after a meal. This will make it easier for your body to absorb the medication. Do not drink alcohol while you are taking rufinamide. Alcohol can increase some of the side effects including drowsiness or dizziness.
