Drug interactions

Major drug interactions

Major:

anti-thymocyte globulin (rabbit) talimogene laherparepvec

Applies to: Thymoglobulin (anti-thymocyte globulin (rabbit)) and talimogene laherparepvec

If you are currently being treated or have recently been treated with anti-thymocyte globulin (rabbit), you should let your doctor know before receiving talimogene laherparepvec. Depending on the dose and length of time you have been on anti-thymocyte globulin (rabbit), you may be at risk for developing a potentially life-threatening herpes infection from exposure to talimogene laherparepvec. In some situations, your doctor may want to delay treatment with talimogene laherparepvec to give your body time to recover from the effects of anti-thymocyte globulin (rabbit) therapy. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Food/lifestyle interactions

No alcohol/food interactions were found. However, this does not necessarily mean no interactions exist. Always consult your healthcare provider.

Disease interactions

10 potential interactions Applies to: 8 conditions, including Multiple Myeloma, Autoimmune Disorders, Infection, Lymphoma, and Immunodeficiency.

Autoimmune Disorders

Moderate:

talimogene laherparepvec

Talimogene laherparepvec has a moderate potential interaction with Autoimmune Disorders.

The use of talimogene laherparepvec may result in immune-mediated events. Exercise care when using this agent in patients with underlying autoimmune disease or before continuing treatment in those patients that have developed immune-mediated events. Close monitoring is recommended.

Bone Marrow Depression/Low Blood Counts

Major:

Thymoglobulin

The anti-thymocyte globulin (rabbit) in Thymoglobulin has a major potential interaction with Bone Marrow Depression/Low Blood Counts.

The use of anti-thymocyte globulin [rabbit] is contraindicated in patients who have active acute or chronic infections that contraindicate any additional immunosuppression. To prevent over-immunosuppression, physicians may wish to decrease the dose of the maintenance immunosuppression regimen during the period of therapy use. Low counts of platelets and white blood cells (including low counts of lymphocytes and neutrophils) have been identified and are reversible following dose adjustments. It is recommended to monitor patients carefully and administer appropriate anti-infective treatment when indicated. Also, total white blood cell and platelet counts should be monitored.

Immunodeficiency

Major:

talimogene laherparepvec

Talimogene laherparepvec has a major potential interaction with Immunodeficiency.

Do not administer talimogene laherparepvec to patients with a history of primary or acquired immunodeficient states, leukemia, lymphoma, AIDS or other clinical manifestations of infection with human immunodeficiency viruses, and those on immunosuppressive therapy.

Major:

talimogene laherparepvec

Talimogene laherparepvec has a major potential interaction with Immunodeficiency.

Talimogene laherparepvec is a live, attenuated herpes simplex virus. The use talimogene laherparepvec is contraindicated in patients who are immunocompromised as its administration in these patients may cause life-threatening disseminated herpetic infection.

Major:

Thymoglobulin

The anti-thymocyte globulin (rabbit) in Thymoglobulin has a major potential interaction with Immunodeficiency.

Infection

Major:

Thymoglobulin

The anti-thymocyte globulin (rabbit) in Thymoglobulin has a major potential interaction with Infection.

Leukemia

Major:

talimogene laherparepvec

Talimogene laherparepvec has a major potential interaction with Leukemia.

Do not administer talimogene laherparepvec to patients with a history of primary or acquired immunodeficient states, leukemia, lymphoma, AIDS or other clinical manifestations of infection with human immunodeficiency viruses, and those on immunosuppressive therapy.

Lymphoma

Major:

talimogene laherparepvec

Talimogene laherparepvec has a major potential interaction with Lymphoma.

Do not administer talimogene laherparepvec to patients with a history of primary or acquired immunodeficient states, leukemia, lymphoma, AIDS or other clinical manifestations of infection with human immunodeficiency viruses, and those on immunosuppressive therapy.

Multiple Myeloma

Moderate:

talimogene laherparepvec

Talimogene laherparepvec has a moderate potential interaction with Multiple Myeloma.

Plasmacytoma, in proximity to the injection site, has been reported after administration of talimogene laherparepvec in a patient with smoldering multiple myeloma. It is recommended to consider the risks and benefits of treatment in patients with multiple myeloma or in whom plasmacytoma develops during treatment. Close monitoring is recommended.

Vaccination

Major:

Thymoglobulin

The anti-thymocyte globulin (rabbit) in Thymoglobulin has a major potential interaction with Vaccination.

Patients recently treated with anti-thymocyte globulin [rabbit] should not receive immunizations with live viral vaccines.
