- Tri-Vylibra Lo (ethinyl estradiol/norgestimate)
Interactions between your drugs
rifAMPin ethinyl estradiol
Applies to: rifampin and Tri-Vylibra Lo (ethinyl estradiol / norgestimate)
RifAMPin may reduce the blood levels and effects of ethinyl estradiol. If you are using ethinyl estradiol for birth control, you may be at increased risk for pregnancy or breakthrough bleeding. You should discuss the use of alternative or additional methods of birth control with your healthcare provider. If you take ethinyl estradiol for another purpose, such as hormone replacement for menopause, notify your doctor if your medication is no longer controlling your symptoms or you experience abnormal bleeding. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
rifAMPin norgestimate
Applies to: rifampin and Tri-Vylibra Lo (ethinyl estradiol / norgestimate)
RifAMPin may reduce the blood levels and effects of norgestimate. If you are using norgestimate for birth control, you may be at increased risk for pregnancy or breakthrough bleeding. You should discuss the use of alternative or additional methods of birth control with your healthcare provider. If you take norgestimate for another purpose, such as hormone replacement for menopause, notify your doctor if your medication is no longer controlling your symptoms or you experience abnormal bleeding. Drug and food interactions
rifAMPin food
Applies to: rifampin
Food can decrease the levels of rifAMPin in your body. Taking rifAMPin on an empty stomach (at least 30 minutes before or 2 hours after a meal) will make it easier for your body to absorb the medication. Avoid drinking alcohol while taking rifAMPin because alcohol use may increase the risk of damage to your liver. It is important to seek immediate medical care if you experience any severe side effects or symptoms of liver damage such as fever, chills, joint pain or swelling, unusual bleeding or bruising, skin rash, itching, loss of appetite, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, dark colored urine, and/or yellowing of the skin or eyes. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
norgestimate food
Applies to: Tri-Vylibra Lo (ethinyl estradiol / norgestimate)
Grapefruit juice may increase the blood levels of certain medications such as norgestimate. You may want to limit your consumption of grapefruit and grapefruit juice during treatment with norgestimate. However, if you have been regularly consuming grapefruit or grapefruit juice with the medication, then it is advisable for you to talk with your doctor before changing the amounts of these products in your diet, as this may alter the effects of your medication. Contact your doctor if your condition changes or you experience increased side effects. Orange juice is not expected to interact.
ethinyl estradiol food
Applies to: Tri-Vylibra Lo (ethinyl estradiol / norgestimate)
Consumer information for this interaction is not currently available.
MONITOR: Coadministration of ethinyl estradiol may increase the plasma concentrations of drugs that are primarily metabolized by CYP450 1A2. In a study of 30 healthy volunteers administered the CYP450 1A2 substrate tizanidine, the systemic exposure (AUC) of tizanidine was 3.9 times greater in women using an oral contraceptive containing ethinyl estradiol.
MANAGEMENT: Patients should be monitored for increased adverse effects of the CYP450 1A2 substrate during concomitant use with ethinyl estradiol. Product labeling for the specific CYP450 1A2 substrate should be consulted for additional recommendations.
