Applies to: Quinidex Extentabs (quinidine) and propafenone

Talk to your doctor before using propafenone together with quiNIDine. Combining these medications may increase the blood levels and effects of propafenone. It may also increase the risk of an irregular heart rhythm that may be serious. You may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring by your doctor to safely use both medications. Contact your doctor if your condition worsens or you experience nausea, vomiting, fatigue, vision problems, irregular heartbeats, slow pulse, chest pain, or shortness of breath during treatment with these medications. You should seek immediate medical attention if you develop sudden dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, or fast or pounding heartbeats. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Do not consume grapefruit or grapefruit juice during treatment with quiNIDine unless specifically directed otherwise by your doctor. Grapefruit and grapefruit juice can interact with quiNIDine and increase the levels of quiNIDine in your body. If you are already consuming grapefruit products, do not increase or decrease the amount of these products in your diet without first talking to your doctor.

Consumption of grapefruit, grapefruit juice, and supplements that contain grapefruit should be avoided during treatment with propafenone as they may increase the blood levels of propafenone in some patients. This can cause serious side effects such as new or worsening irregular heart rhythm or heart failure; chest pain; difficulty breathing; fluid retention and swelling; and slow heart rate and pulse. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
