Applies to: Pneumovax 23 (pneumococcal 23-polyvalent vaccine) and Zostavax (zoster vaccine live)

Pneumococcal 23-polyvalent vaccine may interfere with the immune response to zoster vaccine live. These vaccines should generally not be given at the same time. A person who has been vaccinated with pneumococcal 23-polyvalent vaccine should generally wait at least 4 weeks before getting zoster vaccine live, and vice versa. The immunizing doctor should be informed of recent vaccination history so that appropriate measures and/or precautions can be taken. It is important to tell the doctor about all other medications being used, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to the doctor.
