Drug Interactions between PhenazoForte Plus and Sirturo
This report displays the potential drug interactions for the following 2 drugs:
- PhenazoForte Plus (butabarbital/hyoscyamine/phenazopyridine)
- Sirturo (bedaquiline)
Interactions between your drugs
phenazopyridine bedaquiline
Applies to: PhenazoForte Plus (butabarbital / hyoscyamine / phenazopyridine) and Sirturo (bedaquiline)
Bedaquiline may cause liver problems, and using it with other medications that can also affect the liver such as phenazopyridine may increase that risk. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with these medications. Call your doctor immediately if you have fever, chills, joint pain or swelling, unusual bleeding or bruising, skin rash, itching, loss of appetite, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, dark urine, pale stools, and/or yellowing of the skin or eyes, as these may be signs and symptoms of liver damage. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
butabarbital bedaquiline
Applies to: PhenazoForte Plus (butabarbital / hyoscyamine / phenazopyridine) and Sirturo (bedaquiline)
Butabarbital may reduce the blood levels and effects of bedaquiline. Contact your doctor if your symptoms worsen or your condition changes during treatment with these medications. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact, or you may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Drug and food interactions
butabarbital food
Applies to: PhenazoForte Plus (butabarbital / hyoscyamine / phenazopyridine)
Ask your doctor before using butabarbital together with ethanol, this can add to dizziness, drowsiness and other side effects of butabarbital. Be careful if you drive or do activities that require you to be awake and alert. Talk with your doctor before using any medications together, or drinking alcohol with butabarbital. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
bedaquiline food
Applies to: Sirturo (bedaquiline)
Food significantly increases the absorption of bedaquiline. Therefore, you should take each dose of bedaquiline with food. Taking it on an empty stomach may lead to inadequate blood levels and reduced effectiveness of the medication in treating tuberculosis. Avoid alcohol during treatment with bedaquiline, as it may increase the risk of liver damage. You should seek immediate medical attention if you develop signs and symptoms of liver damage such as fever, chills, joint pain or swelling, unusual bleeding or bruising, skin rash, itching, loss of appetite, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, dark colored urine, light colored stools, and yellowing of the skin or eyes. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
hyoscyamine food
Applies to: PhenazoForte Plus (butabarbital / hyoscyamine / phenazopyridine)
Ask your doctor before using hyoscyamine together with ethanol. Use alcohol cautiously. Alcohol may increase drowsiness and dizziness while you are taking hyoscyamine. You should be warned not to exceed recommended dosages and to avoid activities requiring mental alertness. If your doctor prescribes these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment to safely take this combination. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
