This report displays the potential drug interactions for the following 2 drugs:
- levothyroxine/liothyronine
- Phenaz Plus (butabarbital/hyoscyamine/phenazopyridine)
Interactions between your drugs
liotrix butabarbital
Applies to: levothyroxine / liothyronine and Phenaz Plus (butabarbital / hyoscyamine / phenazopyridine)
Using butabarbital together with liotrix can decrease the effects of butabarbital. This can cause fatigue, weight gain, constipation, and low blood pressure. Talk with your doctor before using these medications together, and report any side effects promptly. You may need a dose adjustment or thyroid tests to safely take both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Drug and food interactions
butabarbital food
Applies to: Phenaz Plus (butabarbital / hyoscyamine / phenazopyridine)
Ask your doctor before using butabarbital together with ethanol, this can add to dizziness, drowsiness and other side effects of butabarbital. Be careful if you drive or do activities that require you to be awake and alert. Talk with your doctor before using any medications together, or drinking alcohol with butabarbital. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
liotrix food
Applies to: levothyroxine / liothyronine
The timing of meals relative to your liotrix dose can affect absorption of the medication. Therefore, liotrix should be taken on a consistent schedule with regard to time of day and relation to meals to avoid large fluctuations in blood levels, which may alter its effects. In addition, absorption of liotrix may be decreased by foods such as soybean flour, cotton seed meal, walnuts, dietary fiber, calcium, and calcium fortified juices. These foods should be avoided within several hours of dosing if possible. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
When liotrix is given during continuous enteral nutrition (tube feedings) for more than 7 days, the tube feeding should be interrupted for at least one hour before and one hour after the dose of liotrix. You may need more frequent blood tests to monitor liotrix levels.
hyoscyamine food
Applies to: Phenaz Plus (butabarbital / hyoscyamine / phenazopyridine)
Ask your doctor before using hyoscyamine together with ethanol. Use alcohol cautiously. Alcohol may increase drowsiness and dizziness while you are taking hyoscyamine. You should be warned not to exceed recommended dosages and to avoid activities requiring mental alertness. If your doctor prescribes these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment to safely take this combination. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
liotrix food
Applies to: levothyroxine / liothyronine
Using multivitamin with minerals together with liotrix may decrease the effects of liotrix. You should separate the administration of liotrix and multivitamin with minerals by at least 4 hours. If your doctor does prescribe these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment or special test to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
