Drug Interactions between gepirone and valbenazine
This report displays the potential drug interactions for the following 2 drugs:
- gepirone
- valbenazine
Interactions between your drugs
valbenazine gepirone
Applies to: valbenazine and gepirone
Using gepirone together with valbenazine may increase the risk of experiencing a change in the electrical activity of your heart called QT prolongation, which can result in irregular heartbeats that can be life-threatening. You might be more susceptible to this risk if you have heart problems, uncontrolled hypothyroidism, or electrolyte disturbances (for example, magnesium or potassium loss due to severe or prolonged diarrhea or vomiting). Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact, or you may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring of your electrocardiogram and blood tests to safely use both medications. You should seek immediate medical attention if you experience an irregular heartbeat or feeling dizzy, lightheaded, or faint during treatment. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Drug and food interactions
valbenazine food
Applies to: valbenazine
Grapefruit and grapefruit juice may increase the blood levels and effects of valbenazine, such as drowsiness and an irregular heart rhythm problem called QT prolongation. Irregular heart rhythm problems may be serious and potentially life-threatening, although it is a relatively rare side effect. You may be more susceptible if you have a heart condition called congenital long QT syndrome, other cardiac diseases, conduction abnormalities, or electrolyte disturbances (for example, magnesium or potassium loss due to severe or prolonged diarrhea or vomiting). Talk to your doctor if you have questions or concerns. Do not add grapefruit products to your diet, or increase or decrease the amount currently in your diet without first talking to your doctor. You may need a dose adjustment of valbenazine or more frequent monitoring by your doctor to safely use both valbenazine and grapefruit products. You should seek immediate medical attention if you develop sudden dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, shortness of breath, or heart palpitations during treatment with these medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
gepirone food
Applies to: gepirone
Food helps with the absorption of gepirone into the blood stream. You should take this medication with food at about the same time every day. You should not consume grapefruit or grapefruit products while taking this medication as they can increase the blood levels of gepirone in your body, putting you at a higher risk of serious side effects like serotonin syndrome or a change in the electrical activity of your heart called QT prolongation. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of the following signs or symptoms of these potentially life-threatening side effects: irregular or fast heartbeat, dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, agitation, confusion, sweating, flushing, changes in blood pressure, seizures, hallucinations, or a loss of coordination. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions on how to take this or other medications you are prescribed. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
