Drug Interactions between gepirone and methotrimeprazine
This report displays the potential drug interactions for the following 2 drugs:
- gepirone
- methotrimeprazine
Interactions between your drugs
methotrimeprazine gepirone
Applies to: methotrimeprazine and gepirone
Using gepirone together with methotrimeprazine may increase the risk of experiencing a change in the electrical activity of your heart called QT prolongation, which can result in irregular heartbeats that can be life-threatening. You might be more susceptible to this risk if you have heart problems, uncontrolled hypothyroidism, or electrolyte disturbances (for example, magnesium or potassium loss due to severe or prolonged diarrhea or vomiting). Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact, or you may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring of your electrocardiogram and blood tests to safely use both medications. You should seek immediate medical attention if you experience an irregular heartbeat or feeling dizzy, lightheaded, or faint during treatment. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Drug and food interactions
gepirone food
Applies to: gepirone
Food helps with the absorption of gepirone into the blood stream. You should take this medication with food at about the same time every day. You should not consume grapefruit or grapefruit products while taking this medication as they can increase the blood levels of gepirone in your body, putting you at a higher risk of serious side effects like serotonin syndrome or a change in the electrical activity of your heart called QT prolongation. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of the following signs or symptoms of these potentially life-threatening side effects: irregular or fast heartbeat, dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, agitation, confusion, sweating, flushing, changes in blood pressure, seizures, hallucinations, or a loss of coordination. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions on how to take this or other medications you are prescribed. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Applies to: methotrimeprazine
Ask your doctor before using methotrimeprazine together with ethanol. This can cause uncontrollable movements, agitation, seizures, severe dizziness or fainting, coma, very deep sleep, irregular heartbeats, and high or low body temperature. Use caution when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities, these medicaions may cause dizziness or drowsiness. If you experience dizziness or drowsiness, avoid these activities. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
