Drug Interactions between elvitegravir and Videx
This report displays the potential drug interactions for the following 2 drugs:
- elvitegravir
- Videx (didanosine)
Interactions between your drugs
didanosine elvitegravir
Applies to: Videx (didanosine) and elvitegravir
Didanosine should not be taken at the same time as elvitegravir. This is because elvitegravir must be taken with food to enhance absorption, whereas food interferes with the absorption of didanosine. You should take didanosine on an empty stomach one hour before or two hours after elvitegravir. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions on how to take this or other medications you are prescribed. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Drug and food interactions
didanosine food
Applies to: Videx (didanosine)
Food decreases the levels of didanosine in your body. Take didanosine on an empty stomach at least 30 minutes before or 2 hours after a meal. This will make it easier for your body to absorb the medication. Do not crush, chew, break, or open a delayed-release capsule (Videx EC). Swallow the pill whole. It is specially made to release medicine slowly in the body. Breaking or opening the pill would cause too much of the drug to be released at one time.
elvitegravir food
Applies to: elvitegravir
Food significantly increases the absorption of elvitegravir. You should take each dose of elvitegravir with a meal. Taking it on an empty stomach may lead to inadequate blood levels and reduced effectiveness of the medication in treating HIV infection.
