The following interaction applies only if you are taking lopinavir-ritonavir (brand name Kaletra) in a solution formulation:
didanosine should not be taken at the same time as lopinavir-ritonavir oral solution. This is because lopinavir-ritonavir oral solution must be taken with food to enhance absorption, whereas food interferes with the absorption of didanosine. You should take didanosine on an empty stomach one hour before or two hours after lopinavir-ritonavir oral solution. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions on how to take this or other medications you are prescribed. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Food decreases the levels of didanosine in your body. Take didanosine on an empty stomach at least 30 minutes before or 2 hours after a meal. This will make it easier for your body to absorb the medication. Do not crush, chew, break, or open a delayed-release capsule (Videx EC). Swallow the pill whole. It is specially made to release medicine slowly in the body. Breaking or opening the pill would cause too much of the drug to be released at one time.

Ritonavir should be taken with food to lessen gastrointestinal side effects. It is important that you take this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not change your treatment or stop treatment without first talking to your doctor.
