Edit list (add/remove drugs)

Interactions between your drugs

Major

methylene blue HYDROcodone

Applies to: Uritact-EC (hyoscyamine / methenamine / methylene blue / phenyl salicylate) and Damason-P (aspirin / hydrocodone)

Using HYDROcodone together with methylene blue may rarely increase the risk of serious side effects such as respiratory depression, low blood pressure, fainting, coma, and even death. In general, it is best to wait at least 14 days after stopping methylene blue before you start treatment with HYDROcodone. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. Your doctor may already be aware of the risks, but has determined that this is the best course of treatment for you and has taken appropriate precautions and is monitoring you closely for any potential complications. You should avoid the use of alcohol while being treated with these medications. Also avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how your medications affect you, and do not exceed the dosage or frequency of use prescribed by your doctor. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Moderate

hyoscyamine HYDROcodone

Applies to: Uritact-EC (hyoscyamine / methenamine / methylene blue / phenyl salicylate) and Damason-P (aspirin / hydrocodone)

Using HYDROcodone together with hyoscyamine may increase the risk and/or severity of some side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, difficulty concentrating, difficulty urinating, dry mouth, abdominal cramping, and constipation. Some people, especially the elderly, may also experience impairment in thinking, judgment, and motor coordination. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with these medications. Also avoid activities requiring mental alertness such as driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medications affect you. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Moderate

aspirin phenyl salicylate

Applies to: Damason-P (aspirin / hydrocodone) and Uritact-EC (hyoscyamine / methenamine / methylene blue / phenyl salicylate)

Using aspirin together with phenyl salicylate is generally not recommended. Combining these medications may increase the risk of side effects in the gastrointestinal tract such as inflammation, pain, bleeding, and ulceration. Bruising and other bleeding complications may also occur. You should take these medications with food to lessen gastrointestinal side effects. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact, or you may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring to safely use both medications. You should seek immediate medical attention if you experience any unusual bleeding or bruising, or have other signs and symptoms of bleeding such as dizziness; lightheadedness; red or black, tarry stools; coughing up or vomiting fresh or dried blood that looks like coffee grounds; severe headache; and weakness. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Drug and food interactions

Major

HYDROcodone food

Applies to: Damason-P (aspirin / hydrocodone)

Do not use alcohol or medications that contain alcohol while you are receiving treatment with HYDROcodone. This may increase nervous system side effects such as drowsiness, dizziness, lightheadedness, difficulty concentrating, and impairment in thinking and judgment. In severe cases, low blood pressure, respiratory distress, fainting, coma, or even death may occur. If you are taking certain long-acting formulations of hydrocodone, consumption of alcohol may also cause rapid release of the drug, resulting in high blood levels that may be potentially lethal. Likewise, you should avoid consuming grapefruit and grapefruit juice, as this may increase the blood levels and effects of hydrocodone. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions on how to take this or other medications you are prescribed. Do not use more than the recommended dose of HYDROcodone, and avoid activities requiring mental alertness such as driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medication affects you. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medication without first talking to your doctor.

Moderate

aspirin food

Applies to: Damason-P (aspirin / hydrocodone)

Ask your doctor before using aspirin together with ethanol. Do not drink alcohol while taking aspirin. Alcohol can increase your risk of stomach bleeding caused by aspirin. Call your doctor at once if you have symptoms of bleeding in your stomach or intestines. This includes black, bloody, or tarry stools, or coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Moderate

hyoscyamine food

Applies to: Uritact-EC (hyoscyamine / methenamine / methylene blue / phenyl salicylate)

Ask your doctor before using hyoscyamine together with ethanol. Use alcohol cautiously. Alcohol may increase drowsiness and dizziness while you are taking hyoscyamine. You should be warned not to exceed recommended dosages and to avoid activities requiring mental alertness. If your doctor prescribes these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment to safely take this combination. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Therapeutic duplication warnings

Therapeutic duplication is the use of more than one medicine from the same drug category or therapeutic class to treat the same condition. This can be intentional in cases where drugs with similar actions are used together for demonstrated therapeutic benefit. It can also be unintentional in cases where a patient has been treated by more than one doctor, or had prescriptions filled at more than one pharmacy, and can have potentially adverse consequences.

Duplication

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories

Therapeutic duplication

The recommended maximum number of medicines in the 'nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories' category to be taken concurrently is usually one. Your list includes two medicines belonging to the 'nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories' category:

  • Damason-P (aspirin/hydrocodone)
  • Uritact-EC (hyoscyamine/methenamine/methylene blue/phenyl salicylate)

Note: In certain circumstances, the benefits of taking this combination of drugs may outweigh any risks. Always consult your healthcare provider before making changes to your medications or dosage.
