Drug Interactions between ColPrep Kit and lidocaine / oxytetracycline
This report displays the potential drug interactions for the following 2 drugs:
- ColPrep Kit (magnesium sulfate/potassium sulfate/sodium sulfate)
- lidocaine/oxytetracycline
Interactions between your drugs
magnesium sulfate oxytetracycline
Applies to: ColPrep Kit (magnesium sulfate / potassium sulfate / sodium sulfate) and lidocaine / oxytetracycline
Oxytetracycline and magnesium sulfate should not be taken orally at the same time. Products that contain magnesium, aluminum, calcium, iron, and/or other minerals may interfere with the absorption of oxytetracycline into the bloodstream and reduce its effectiveness. If possible, it may be best to avoid taking magnesium sulfate while your are being treated with oxytetracycline. Otherwise, you should separate dosing by 2 to 4 hours, oxytetracycline should be taken at least 2 hours before and not less than 6 hours after Suprep Bowel Prep (magnesium/potassium/sodium sulfates), or oxytetracycline and magnesium sulfate should be taken as directed by your healthcare provider. Talk to your healthcare provider if you are unsure whether your medications contain something that could potentially interact or if you have questions on how to take this or other medications you are prescribed. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
lidocaine sodium sulfate
Applies to: lidocaine / oxytetracycline and ColPrep Kit (magnesium sulfate / potassium sulfate / sodium sulfate)
Lidocaine can occasionally cause seizures, especially if you are elderly, alcoholic, undergoing alcohol or drug withdrawal, have a history of seizures, or have a condition affecting the central nervous system like a brain tumor or head trauma. The risk is also increased if you have low blood levels of electrolytes such as calcium, magnesium, potassium or sodium, which can occur with bowel cleansing preparations or excessive use of medications that have a laxative effect. You should use sodium sulfate exactly as prescribed by your doctor, and drink plenty of clear liquids before, during, and after the cleansing process to avoid becoming dehydrated. Your doctor may be able to recommend specific fluids you can drink before starting sodium sulfate to help maintain your electrolyte levels. Contact your doctor if you experience signs and symptoms of low electrolyte levels such as weakness, tiredness, drowsiness, dizziness, confusion, tingling, numbness, muscle pain, cramps, nausea, or vomiting. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Drug and food interactions
lidocaine food
Applies to: lidocaine / oxytetracycline
Grapefruit juice may increase the blood levels of lidocaine, which may increase the risk of side effects such as low blood pressure, slow heart rate, irregular heart rhythm, difficulty breathing and convulsions. Cigarette smoking may reduce the blood levels of lidocaine, which may make the medication less effective. It is best to avoid smoking during lidocaine therapy. Consuming cruciferous vegetables (e.G., broccoli, brussels sprouts) may also reduce the blood levels of lidocaine. Talk to a healthcare professional if you have any questions or concerns. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
oxytetracycline food
Applies to: lidocaine / oxytetracycline
Do not take iron supplements, multivitamins, calcium supplements, antacids, or laxatives within 2 hours before or after taking oxytetracycline. These products can make oxytetracycline less effective in treating your infection. Do not take oxytetracycline with milk or other dairy products, unless your doctor has told you to. Dairy products can make it harder for your body to absorb the medication.
sodium sulfate food
Applies to: ColPrep Kit (magnesium sulfate / potassium sulfate / sodium sulfate)
Oral medications may not be properly absorbed when they are taken within one hour before starting sodium sulfate for bowel cleansing. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist to see if you should adjust the dosing schedule of your other medications before you begin bowel cleansing treatment. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
oxytetracycline food
Applies to: lidocaine / oxytetracycline
Iron can bind to oxytetracycline in the gastrointestinal tract, which may prevent their absorption into the bloodstream and possibly reduce their effectiveness. To avoid or minimize the interaction, iron-containing medications and oxytetracycline should preferably be taken at least three to four hours apart in most cases. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns, or if you have trouble separating the dosing times. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
