Drug Interactions between chloroquine and Imovax Rabies
This report displays the potential drug interactions for the following 2 drugs:
- chloroquine
- Imovax Rabies (rabies vaccine, human diploid cell)
Interactions between your drugs
chloroquine rabies vaccine, human diploid cell
Applies to: chloroquine and Imovax Rabies (rabies vaccine, human diploid cell)
Treatment with chloroquine may reduce the effectiveness of rabies vaccine, human diploid cell if it is given by injection into the skin (intradermally), but not if it is given by injection into the muscle (intramuscularly). Although rabies vaccine is normally intended for intramuscular use, the intradermal route may sometimes be used as a cost-saving measure, since smaller doses of the vaccine are needed when it is given by this route. Talk to your healthcare provider if you have any questions or concerns. When both chloroquine and rabies vaccine, human diploid cell are needed for prevention of disease in preparation for travel to malaria and rabies endemic areas, the intradermal route should only be used if the vaccine can be initiated early enough to allow for the entire series to be completed 30 days or more before departure. Otherwise, the intramuscular route should be used. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Drug and food interactions
chloroquine food
Applies to: chloroquine
You may want to limit your consumption of grapefruit or grapefruit juice during treatment with chloroquine. Grapefruit juice can significantly increase the blood levels and effects of chloroquine, which may result in an irregular heart rate or other conduction disturbances. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. You should seek immediate medical attention if you develop sudden dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, shortness of breath, or heart palpitations during treatment with chloroquine. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
