Drug Interactions between Celebrex and risedronate
This report displays the potential drug interactions for the following 2 drugs:
- Celebrex (celecoxib)
- risedronate
Interactions between your drugs
risedronate celecoxib
Applies to: risedronate and Celebrex (celecoxib)
Talk to your doctor before using risedronate together with celecoxib. If you take a medication like risedronate by mouth, combining it with celecoxib may increase your risk of developing gastrointestinal ulcers and bleeding. Contact your doctor immediately if you develop severe abdominal pain, bloating, sudden dizziness or lightheadedness, nausea, vomiting (especially with blood), loss of appetite, and/or black, tarry stools. On the other hand, if you receive a medication like risedronate by IV infusion, you may have an increased risk of kidney problems if you also use celecoxib on a regular or long-term basis. You may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring by your doctor to safely use both medications. You should seek medical attention if you experience signs and symptoms that may suggest kidney damage such as nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, increased or decreased urination, sudden weight gain or weight loss, fluid retention, swelling, shortness of breath, muscle cramps, tiredness, weakness, dizziness, confusion, and irregular heart rhythm. Be sure to drink plenty of fluids if you develop diarrhea or vomiting during treatment with these medications, as dehydration can also affect the kidney. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Drug and food interactions
risedronate food
Applies to: risedronate
Food may reduce the absorption of risedronate, which may lead to lower blood levels of the medication and possibly reduced effectiveness. You should take risedronate first thing in the morning, at least 30 minutes before you eat or drink anything or take any other medication. Take each dose with a full glass (6 to 8 ounces) of water, and use only plain water (not mineral or vitamin water). Do not take risedronate if you cannot sit upright or stand for at least 30 minutes. Because risedronate can cause irritation and ulcer in the stomach or esophagus (the tube that connects your mouth and stomach), you will need to stay upright for at least 30 minutes after taking this medication. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions on how to take this or other medications you are prescribed. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
