If you are currently being treated with ceftibuten or have been treated within the last 3 days, you should talk to your doctor before taking typhoid vaccine, live. Antibiotics like ceftibuten can reduce the activity of the vaccine. To ensure adequate vaccine response, you should generally not take typhoid vaccine, live until at least 3 days after you complete your antibiotic therapy. If you have already started taking typhoid vaccine, live, it may be advisable to wait at least 3 days after the last dose of vaccine before using ceftibuten, depending on the urgency of the antibiotic treatment. You should consult with your physician on what is the best course of action for you. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

The following interaction applies only if you are taking ceftibuten (brand name Cedax) in the liquid formulation:
Food may reduce the absorption of ceftibuten from the liquid (suspension) formulation, which may lead to lower blood levels of the medication and possibly reduced effectiveness. Therefore, it should be taken on an empty stomach at least two hours before or one hour after a meal. If you are taking the capsule formulation, you may take it with or without food. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions on how to take this or other medications you are prescribed. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
