Food may reduce the absorption of ceftibuten from the liquid (suspension) formulation, which may lead to lower blood levels of the medication and possibly reduced effectiveness. Therefore, it should be taken on an empty stomach at least two hours before or one hour after a meal. If you are taking the capsule formulation, you may take it with or without food. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions on how to take this or other medications you are prescribed.
