Talk to your doctor before using lopinavir together with carBAMazepine. Combining these medications can decrease the blood levels of lopinavir, which may make it less effective in treating HIV infection. Contact your doctor if your condition worsens or you develop new infections during treatment with these medications. Lopinavir in combination with ritonavir may also increase the blood levels and effects of carBAMazepine. Contact your doctor if you experience increased side effects such as drowsiness, tiredness, dizziness, unsteadiness when walking, nausea, and vomiting. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact, or you may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Using carBAMazepine together with ritonavir may increase the effects of carBAMazepine. Contact your doctor if you experience shallow breathing, fast heartbeat, nausea, vomiting, urinating less or not at all, muscle twitches, restlessness, tremors, slurred speech, staggering walk, and feeling light-headed or fainting. If your doctor does prescribe these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment or special test to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

You should preferably avoid the regular consumption of grapefruits and grapefruit juice while taking carBAMazepine. This can cause carBAMazepine levels to increase. You should report signs of carBAMazepine side effects such as nausea, visual disturbances, dizziness, or muscle weakness to your doctor. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with carBAMazepine. Alcohol can increase the nervous system side effects of carBAMazepine such as dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. Some people may also experience impairment in thinking and judgment. Food may affect the absorption of lopinavir-ritonavir (brand name Kaletra) depending on whether you are taking the oral solution or the tablet.
