Drug Interactions between Calquence and Prevacid NapraPAC 500
This report displays the potential drug interactions for the following 2 drugs:
- Calquence (acalabrutinib)
- Prevacid NapraPAC 500 (lansoprazole/naproxen)
Interactions between your drugs
naproxen acalabrutinib
Applies to: Prevacid NapraPAC 500 (lansoprazole / naproxen) and Calquence (acalabrutinib)
Using acalabrutinib together with naproxen may increase the risk of bleeding. In clinical studies, treatment with acalabrutinib alone has been associated with severe and sometimes fatal hemorrhage. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. Your doctor may already be aware of the risks, but has determined that this is the best course of treatment for you and has taken appropriate precautions such as monitoring you closely for any potential complications. You should seek immediate medical attention if you experience any unusual bleeding or bruising, or have other signs and symptoms of bleeding such as dizziness; lightheadedness; red or black, tarry stools; coughing up or vomiting fresh or dried blood that looks like coffee grounds; a severe headache; and/or weakness. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
lansoprazole acalabrutinib
Applies to: Prevacid NapraPAC 500 (lansoprazole / naproxen) and Calquence (acalabrutinib)
The following interaction applies only if you are receiving the capsule formulation of acalabrutinib (Calquence), but not the tablet formulation:
By reducing the acidity level in the stomach, lansoprazole may interfere with absorption of the medication in acalabrutinib capsules and reduce its effectiveness. This interaction has not been shown to occur with the tablet formulation. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact with acalabrutinib or interact to a lesser extent. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
naproxen lansoprazole
Applies to: Prevacid NapraPAC 500 (lansoprazole / naproxen) and Prevacid NapraPAC 500 (lansoprazole / naproxen)
Talk to your doctor before using naproxen together with lansoprazole. Using these medications together may affect the enteric coating of naproxen, causing the medication to be released too early in the body. This can make naproxen less effective. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Drug and food interactions
acalabrutinib food
Applies to: Calquence (acalabrutinib)
Acalabrutinib may be taken with or without food. However, consumption of grapefruit and grapefruit juice can increase the blood levels of acalabrutinib. This may increase side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, hemorrhage, development of other cancers, abnormal heart rhythm, and impaired bone marrow function resulting in low numbers of different types of blood cells. You may also be more likely to develop anemia, bleeding problems, or infections due to low blood cell counts. You should avoid the consumption of grapefruit and grapefruit juice during treatment with acalabrutinib. Be sure to take the medication at approximately the same time(s) every day to maintain consistent blood levels and effects. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions on how to take this or other medications you are prescribed. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
naproxen food
Applies to: Prevacid NapraPAC 500 (lansoprazole / naproxen)
Ask your doctor before using naproxen together with ethanol. Do not drink alcohol while taking naproxen. Alcohol can increase your risk of stomach bleeding caused by naproxen. Call your doctor at once if you have symptoms of bleeding in your stomach or intestines. This includes black, bloody, or tarry stools, or coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
