Drug Interactions between atovaquone and BiferaRx

Food significantly enhances the absorption of atovaquone. You should take each dose of atovaquone at the same time each day with a meal or a milky drink. If you receive enteral nutrition (tube feeding), take atovaquone with your feeding. Taking it on an empty stomach may lead to inadequate blood levels and reduced effectiveness of the medication. Talk to your doctor if you have questions or have difficulty taking atovaquone with food.

Food may reduce the absorption and blood levels of multivitamin with iron. In addition, some oral medications can also interfere with multivitamin with iron absorption into the bloodstream, which may make the medication less effective in treating your condition. Likewise, multivitamin with iron may interfere with the absorption of other orally administered medications. You should take multivitamin with iron on an empty stomach at least one hour before or two hours after a meal. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact, or you may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring to safely use both medications.
