Drug Interactions between amprenavir and Natazia
This report displays the potential drug interactions for the following 2 drugs:
- amprenavir
- Natazia (dienogest/estradiol)
Interactions between your drugs
amprenavir dienogest
Applies to: amprenavir and Natazia (dienogest / estradiol)
Consumer information for this interaction is not currently available.
GENERALLY AVOID: Coadministration with some hormonal contraceptives may decrease the plasma concentrations of amprenavir. The mechanism of interaction is unknown. In 10 study subjects coadministered amprenavir (1200 mg twice a day for 28 days) and ethinyl estradiol-norethindrone (0.035 mg-1 mg for 1 cycle), amprenavir systemic exposure (AUC) and trough plasma concentration (Cmin) were reduced by 22% and 20%, respectively, compared to administration of amprenavir alone. Conversely, the Cmin of ethinyl estradiol was increased by 32%, while the Cmin and AUC of norethindrone were increased by 45% and 18%, respectively.
MANAGEMENT: Given the risk of reduced viral susceptibility and resistance development associated with subtherapeutic antiretroviral drug levels, alternative (i.e., nonhormonal) methods of birth control should be considered in patients treated with amprenavir.
Drug and food interactions
amprenavir food
Applies to: amprenavir
Amprenavir can be taken with or without food. Avoid taking with a high-fat meal, which can make it harder for your body to absorb amprenavir. Take amprenavir with a full glass (8 ounces) of water. Do not switch from amprenavir capsules to oral liquid without your doctor's advice. Make sure you receive the right form of this medication each time you get your prescription filled.
dienogest food
Applies to: Natazia (dienogest / estradiol)
Grapefruit juice may increase the blood levels of certain medications such as dienogest. You may want to limit your consumption of grapefruit and grapefruit juice during treatment with dienogest. However, if you have been regularly consuming grapefruit or grapefruit juice with the medication, then it is advisable for you to talk with your doctor before changing the amounts of these products in your diet, as this may alter the effects of your medication. Contact your doctor if your condition changes or you experience increased side effects. Orange juice is not expected to interact.
estradiol food
Applies to: Natazia (dienogest / estradiol)
Information for this minor interaction is available on the professional version.
