Drug Interactions between albuterol and Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold and Sinus
This report displays the potential drug interactions for the following 2 drugs:
- albuterol
- Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold and Sinus (acetaminophen/phenylephrine)
Interactions between your drugs
phenylephrine albuterol
Applies to: Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold and Sinus (acetaminophen / phenylephrine) and albuterol
Using phenylephrine together with albuterol may increase cardiovascular side effects such as elevations in heart rate and blood pressure or irregular heart rhythm. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns, particularly if you have a history of high blood pressure, arrhythmia, or heart disease. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact, or you may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Drug and food interactions
acetaminophen food
Applies to: Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold and Sinus (acetaminophen / phenylephrine)
Ask your doctor before using acetaminophen together with ethanol. This can cause serious side effects that affect your liver. Call your doctor immediately if you experience a fever, chills, joint pain or swelling, excessive tiredness or weakness, unusual bleeding or bruising, skin rash or itching, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, or yellowing of the skin or the whites of your eyes. If your doctor does prescribe these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment or special tests to safely take both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

MONITOR: Coadministration of two or more sympathomimetic agents may increase the risk of adverse effects such as nervousness, irritability, and increased heart rate. Central nervous system (CNS) stimulants, particularly amphetamines, can potentiate the adrenergic response to vasopressors and other sympathomimetic agents. Additive increases in blood pressure and heart rate may occur due to enhanced peripheral sympathetic activity.
MANAGEMENT: Caution is advised if two or more sympathomimetic agents are coadministered. Pulse and blood pressure should be closely monitored.
