For Insomnia "I am 65, male 150 lbs. I've been taking trazadone for probably 15 years. I used to wake up in the middle of the night and couldn't get back to sleep . My mind would race. This helps me fall asleep a little and lets me sleep all night. If I wake up to pee I get right back to sleep. No grogginess in the morning all though it does affect my wife that way when she takes it. No side effects. I can still fall asleep without it and no effect if I don't take it for awhile"

For Insomnia "My doctor prescribed 150mg trazodone at bedtime because I have problems sleeping. I start to feel funny within 15-20 minutes of taking it and that's my sign that it's time to lie down. It keeps me asleep with no weird side effects. No weird dreams. I feel groggy in the morning. but it goes away within a couple hours."

For Insomnia "Years of nearly paralyzing anxiety, depression, and insomnia. On and off around 2 dozen meds. Every single antidepressant I tried made my sleep worse and had to resort to benzos. After 5 years now I finally decided to try Trazodone (50mg before bed) so I could get off the benzos that were ultimately doing more damage than good. First 3 weeks I felt extremely irritable and bipolar and just awful. Around week 3 I finally noticed a shift. First time in years I'm sleeping through the whole night and not waking up with anxiety. Even just addressing those 2 major things is great and I'm finally getting my head above water for the first time in years. If you try it, give it at least a month. It's safer than benzos (doesn't build tolerance). Hopeful for the future for the first time in years. If you've tried almost everything and don't handle SSRIs or most other ADs well, give trazodone a try, but give it time to work. I know it's hard and you might feel worse for a bit but you gotta be patient."

For Insomnia "I've started having anxiety attacks about half a year ago, and have been depressed since high school, which had kept me up most nights, worrying about my heart rate. 25mg of trazodone makes me very sleepy and puts an end to racing thoughts, and has also made my uncomfortable dreams subside. I do experience some dizziness and heavy eyelids, but other than that this medicine helps a lot. Went from sleeping around 4 hours to more than 8 again. Although I cannot imagine anyone taking 300 mg of this and being okay the next day."

For Anxiety "I have been prescribed trazodone for generalized anxiety disorder with insomnia. I started with 50 mg only at bedtime about for a week and now at 100 mg in a single dose at bedtime. It helped me a lot with the anxiety (it calmed me down) and also it improved considerably my sleep at night. Although the sedating activity is immediate, the anxyolytic activity takes some time to show effect and requires increasing dose. I have noticed no major side effects, except from orthostatic hypotension and some headaches mainly at the beginning of the treatment. It works well as a sleep aid, but care must be taken when you increase the dose (should be done gradually increasing the dose by 25 mg). The dose of 100 mg at bedtime works fine for me. I will continue on this dose and see how things go on."

For Depression "Trazodone is absolutely great for me. I'm taking 100 mg of it every night due to terrible insomnia and persisting depression. Sertraline was only making me more miserable, but trazodone worked from day 1. I sleep a lot better and have much less trouble with bad thoughts and bad mood. Some people say it makes them feel groggy, but it's just perfect for me. This medicine is not used very often as an antidepressant, but it does worth trying it if other medicines don't fit you."

For Insomnia "I started taking Trazodone 50mg since more than a year now. My doctor told me to only take it if I think I wont be able to sleep after a long stressful day. Sometimes I only take half of the pill which tends to work to fall asleep faster but I regularly wake up during the night and can't fall asleep anymore. I do not notice any side effects while taking them."

For Insomnia "I have been taking Tradazone 50mg for over 15 years . My Doctor assures me that 50mg is not a risky level ....but how do they know the long term ? It has helped me tremendously . I have never had a problem with falling asleep but after 2..3 hours of good sleep, I would wake up and be very very restless . Tradazone has help to stop this and now even if I am awake I am relaxed . A few times I have stopped taking them or have run out (for a few days ) and I go right back to the old problem. I would not be without it ."

For Sedation "I went to rehab for Xanax detox and they prescribe me trazadone 100mg to take before bedtime. Due to the side effect of coming off benzos and not being able to sleep this medication does me so much wonders. I take it and within 15 min I'm ready to fall asleep and wake up refreshed. I understand some other people have different opinions but it really did help me and I'm thankful for my psychiatrist prescribing it to me."

For Insomnia "I have been taking 50 mg of Trazodone for several years for insomnia. I originally took Ambien, which I liked very much, but the insurance I had then stopped paying for it, so I changed. I travel quite a bit and don't sleep in my own bed frequently, which is the reason I needed a sleep aid. Trazodone has been just excellent. I pop one pill at bedtime and get a good 7-8 hours sleep with no side effects at all. I'm not depressed and didn't take it for depression, only for sleep. It must be a generic or at least a very cheap drug, because it has never cost me much. I have no side effects, although since I'm 72 years old, I do get up slowly, bend over slowly, etc. or I will get dizzy. However, this is not Trazodone's fault, it's me!"

For Anxiety "After suffering from general anxiety disorder (GAD) for 40 years, trazodone is a great drug to help me with anxiety and sleep. To help with GAD I went on a strict diet of no coffee and alcohol, also I limited me bread and sugar. This was the major tools for me against my fight with GAD. Also, I have not been able to have a deep restful sleep in many years. Typically, I would toss and turn all night long. The trazodone gives me a deep restful sleep every night. 200 mg. of Trazodone also helps me stay calmer and less anxiety during the day."

For Anxiety "I have been suffering from generalised anxiety disorder for the last 10 years, on and off many anti depressants. I have been on citalopram/SSRI for about the last 5 years, but it never did the job thoroughly and I felt that is as good as it's ever going to get. I started Trazodone 2 days ago, and I feel like a new person. Anxiety down by an immense amount, confidence levels boosted beyond what I've ever felt. I am combining it with the citalopram, however, as always medication affects every individual differently. Just a matter of trial and error. Only side effects so far are dry mouth, and slightly impaired concentration. But they are MINOR compared to the anxiety I used to have."

For Insomnia "I had a concussion as a result of a fall. I was diagnosed with Post Concussion Syndrome. I could not sleep at all. Tried everything over the counter, then prescriptions including Ambien. Nothing worked. I went to the Dr. several times and told them I needed something to make me sleep or was going to lose my mind. Trazadone 100 mg per night and I sleep like a baby. It is a miracle!"

For Depression "I recently lost my husband and I was prescribed Trazodone for depression. Before this, I was taking Ambien for sleeplessness. I am now off Ambien which gave me bad headaches, not only am I sleeping better than ever, but my depression seems to be somewhat in check. I do not expect any miracle medicine to take away the pain and sadness of losing the love of my life, but this is more than helping with no side effects at all."

For Depression "I started this medication when I was experiencing flashbacks to trauma and I would wake up in a sweat, screaming or sleepwalking. I take many other medications to help with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, depression and bipolar. It worked wonderfully well for 7 years. I stopped taking this when I got a new doctor as she wanted to lower my dose of medications. I have now been consistently having nightmares and am hitting, kicking and punching my husband at night. He wakes me to this. I feel terrible about this because my husband has been a wonderful support for the last 20 years. I want to go back on trazodone. Its the only thing that will work for me."

For Depression "After many, many years of taking Zoloft for depression, It got to a point where it was not as helpful as it once was. I visited my doctor who put me on trazodone as a booster to the Zoloft that I was still taking. In 2 weeks I noticed the difference. I no longer feel depressed and feel more like my old self again. The only side effect I have had is a little blurred vision...I'll take that any day over depression."

For Insomnia "I had tried Benadryl and melatonin but my body quickly got used to it. My anxiety and insomnia was progressively getting worse. I was first put on trazadone 50 mg for sleep. I was scared to take the whole pill so I cut it in half. That night I slept about 4 hours and then woke up. I too had some nasal congestion. I had Flonase which was helpful. I finally became desperate enough to take a whole pill. There was an improvement, the nasal issue went away but still wasn’t sleeping the whole night. I was desperate enough to try 1.5 pills=75mg. I have never had such quality sleep in my life. When I wake up, I do feel a little groggy but passes quickly as soon as I’ve had my coffee and shower. I have energy and my anxiety has decreased. I no longer have any side effects."

For Sedation "After I went off HRT after five years, I was experiencing horrible hot flashes at night. I'd wake up at least every two hours, sometimes every hour, with one, and would have a terrible time getting back to sleep. Night after night, I'd sleep miserably, and I tried every "natural" remedy under the sun. I had a friend of the same age suggest trazodone, and when I saw my gyn a couple of weeks later, she actually suggested it before I even mentioned it. I take 50 mg before bedtime, and many nights am not awoken at all by hot flashes. I also have zero side effects from it. It's been a game-changer for me. I do everything I can to stay off prescription meds, but I made this exception."

For Insomnia "Ever since I started using this, (thanks so much, doc!) I have been in Heaven. I have had problems sleeping for months, maybe even a year but not as extreme then. I start to feel tired and my eyes start to want to shut just 20-25 mins after I take this! The "window of opportunity" where it is most obvious it's working (when I feel sleepiest) is (obviously) the time I go to bed. The one time I missed that window was out of experimentation, as I wanted to know if it would knock me out as I was sitting on my couch. Didn't work! When I went to bed that night it was very hard to do so. So now, I ALWAYS head straight to bed when I feel sleepiest."

For Insomnia "I have taken Trazodone at bedtime for over 20 years. I have learned to adjust my bedtime dose and take from 25 to 100 mg before bed. I take it as I get into bed. I began taking it as a 30 something because anxiety and worry kept me from falling and staying asleep. Now that I am older, I need to use the bathroom during the night so do wake up but usually can fall right back to sleep. If I have caffeine in the afternoon and evening, I take the higher dose at night because I won't get a good sleep. I wake fine in the morning and do have a cup of coffee while I wake up fully. I have found if I miss taking a dose at night, I can fall asleep but not deeply. And I may have odd thought like dreams throughout the night. Also, when on the trazodone, I do not dream or at least do not remember any dreams. I believe that it is a good sleep aid and that some haven't given themselves time to adjust to it as a sleep aid."

For Insomnia "I can honestly say this medication has saved my life. For years I had been taking diphenhydramine (benadryl) and had no sleep-wake cycle and never felt completely awake. About 8 months ago I tried out Ambien and Lunesta but my doctor wouldn't let me take them for any longer than a couple weeks. Then Trazodone was recommended, and while the first night was absolutely terrible (nausea, insomnia, overslept), and I am never going back. I can take it long term, it's cheap, it makes me feel genuinely tired and not drugged tired, and I finally have a sleep-wake cycle again. It is also very calming, which helps sleep come a lot faster. I can now get up in the morning and not hate my life. Bless this drug. I don't know where I'd be without it."

For Anxiety "I had really low expectations for trazodone, but I’ve been very pleasantly surprised! I have PTSD, trouble falling/staying asleep, and anxiety/panic during the day. I take between 12.5mg and 25mg of trazodone at night. It’s like a miracle drug for me. The side effects I’ve had are feeling a little zoned out (this has worn off over the past 3 weeks), less nervous eating, and occasional increased REM sleep. It’s important to take it early (by 10pm) otherwise I can feel groggy for many hours during the day. But it’s made my anxiety VERY manageable. I definitely wasn’t expecting it to work. There are no withdrawals or unpleasant side effects if I don’t take it. It works just as well as ativan or Xanax with fewer side effects (I don’t feel loopy). Very happy!!!"
