Reviews for Armour Thyroid

"I was on Armour for almost 20 years with no issues. My June 2021 refill triggered incredible anxiety and irritability, increased heart rate, heat intolerance (and I worked in heat and was acclimated to it). Like others posting reviews, I also noted jaw clenching and tooth grinding. In August 2021, I was hospitalized for an arrhythmia the doctors told me was from being overmedicated. Armour changed, either due to supply chain problems or to save money or both. I can no longer trust it, and switched to levothyroxine/cytomel."

"Echoing the many recent negative reviews on Armour. Since mid 2021 the medicine hasn't been the same. I have had depression, anxiety, panic and after feeling better on an older compounded med, decided to try again since I felt my own system had settled down. Big mistake. By the end of the week trial, I was non-functional. In addition, I'd had an elevation of anti-thyroglobulin antibodies which I've never had before in my 26 year history as a thyroid patient. I have reported my issues to the FDA and talked to them at length, but told them many patients need NDT, but we need it to be safe, reliable, and effective. Encourage everyone having problems or an interest to do the same."

"With both parents hypothyroid, I was diagnosed hypothyroid at 7 years old, so have 50 years of personal experience with thyroid medicines. Armour Thyroid is absolutely the best in my opinion. Doctors tried to "fool my body" with assorted synthetic products, but my system (& Mom's) did not do the T3-T4 conversion. On top of the usual problems of being functionally underdosed I developed worse results: thrombocytopenia (critically low platelets), high cholesterol, inability to metabolize calcium leading to lower bone density than my own mother. On Synthroid one Internal Medicine doctor even wondered if I had Hashimoto's Disease. Use Armour. Treat the patient."

"I took Armour for 12 years and it worked great. Then they pulled it off the market for several years to reformulate it. It costs about 4 times as much and doesn't work for me at all. Hair loss and makes me extremely agitated. I switched to Nature Throid but now Express Scripts is out of that. I am hoping NP Thyroid works. Maybe Big Pharma be taken down by good government regulations so they can't make all the rules for those of us who need medication."

"I was first treated with Levothyroxine for my hypothyroidism. After 6 weeks of being on it, it had no effect whatsoever! I asked my Doctor for Armour Thyroid and boy what a difference! It's great! Too bad also that labs use an outdated reference range of what is "normal" on TSH, T-4, and T-3 blood tests results. Do your own research, because what the lab says is normal is not!"

"Seven years ago, I started out on Levothyroxine but it took forever to adjust the dosage and I actually never did adjust. I told my doctor that my mother took Armour Thyroid for thirty years, so I asked if she could try me on that. She did put me on Armour Thyroid and it quickly worked just fine. I am in stage four kidney failure and Armour Thyroid has had no side effects in any areas. I have not had my thyroid removed and I take 45 milligrams daily. It's simple to use. The only drawback is that I have a $78 copay, which I'd rather pay than get Levothyroxine for free with no copay because Armour Thyroid works well for me and Levothyroxine did not. Thanks."

"I was taking Levoxyl for 12 years and doing fine. Then went into another Hashitoxicosis due to either progression of Hashimoto’s or extreme stress. After several months of trying to get my thyroid stable again it finally started to level out with Levoxyl. My Dr suggested I try Armour so I did. HUGE mistake!! From the first day I took it I felt something was off and I only took it for 7 days - depressed, nauseous, low pulse, tired, felt cold, allergic reaction with fever blisters and itchy rash and swelling eyes. On the 7th day I started having seizures, Extreme severe anxiety, depressed, I felt like it was causing a mental issue/breakdown/extreme nervous and fear. I NEVER had seizures or anxiety or depressed before the Armour. My TSH increased rapidly and T4 decreased just two weeks after I started taking it. Went back to Levoxyl. Three months later and I’m still having anxiety and trying to recover from the extreme damage it caused."

"this is my second day of taking Armour. I may have to get used to it. I haven't slept well since I have taken it. I feel very alert and not relaxed. I am going to stick with it since it is more of a balance of t3 and t4, I hope. I was getting no results from levothyroxine."

"I was prescribed Armour Thyroid after trying Synthroid and finding out it didn't work for me. With Synthroid I actually felt worse; nausea, no appetite, even more tired, but Armour Thyroid was such a relief and made me feel normal again. It made my hair stop falling out at such an alarming rate, and helped my weight stabilize. I actually have energy to do things now! I have been told by my pharmacist though that Armour Thyroid is no longer being made. I have to try to switch to another natural thyroid medication and I'm not sure what my doctor will be giving me. I hope my testimonial on the effectiveness of this medication in combination with everyone else's might show how good this medication is and bring it back."

"I have been taking Armour Thryroid 60 mg/day for about 9 months and some of my symptoms of Hypothyroidism improved, however my (Jan 2012) lab tests suggested I was still low. My doctor doubled the dose to 120 mg/day. In the past, I occasionally noticed some small pimples in the area of my lower lip and chin but after two weeks on the higher dose, I started "blooming" all over my face and neck. I looked like I was suffering from a case of measles or severe acne. My doctor advised me to immediately stop the Armour. I have read a number if reports of people experiencing the same or similar allergic reaction to the changed Armour formula."

"BEWARE! I don't know how this medication gets so much good reviews. I guess I must be one of the few that this has not helped one bit. I have hypothirodism and started with synthroid. I didn't like it all that much and started researching for an alternative and asked my Dr. if I could switch. I thought Armour would be a more natural and better approach to my issue. BIG MISTAKE. This medication does zero for me, it's like not taking anything at all but you are paying for pills that do nothing. I took this medicine for 4 months because I thought it might take a little extra time to get the benefits everyone raves about. In the course of those months my hair restarted falling, my skin was/is looking awful, I felt cold all the time, I have gained weight regardless of what I do, I felt tired everyday, I couldn't sleep. I switched to a different brand of porcine thyroid med that does not have great reviews online, but works."

"Armour is just okay. It’s expensive and there are a lot of fillers. It’s owned by Allergan, same co. that makes Synthroid. Have to take a pretty high dose also, I’m on 180 + 30mgs daily. I split/chew my tablets for better absorption, take iodine/other thyroid support supplements, and also had to add liothyronine/T3 to it. After the NP thyroid reformulation (horrible med!) and Nature-throid/WP recall after that, was forced onto this. Hoping they fix some of the other Ndt medications to their former glory in the near future, fingers crossed!"

"I have been dealing with Hypothyroidism since 1985 - 8 years after having radioactive iodine treatment. I was on Synthroid and Levothyroxine for years. And than I heard about the natural treatment with Armour. Started taking that somewhere around ~2002 ~ Moved and got a new Endocrinologist who said didn't like Armour and put me on Levothyroxine. It took me over 9 months to figure out that my problem with my hair falling out was caused by the switch to levothyroxine. (Had multiple tests for all kinds of issues thinking that my have caused the hair loss) I literally 3/4 of my hair. When he switched me back to Armour within 3 weeks my hair stopped falling out. However, I felt better on the levothyroxine. NOW my dilemma is what to do. I do not want to go back to levothyroxine and have my hair start to fall out again. My TSH went from 8.77 in Jan, '23 to 0.01 in March! The MD has changed the dose multiple times and at a very high price to me. I feel awful most all the time."

"There is a level of inconsistency in its quality and in its potency. I have tried taking it in different ways. Starting with swallowing it (cause immediate bloating). Tried it sublingually and finally crushing it. Again, I have found some difference in the way it crushes. Some are crumbly (more potent) and some are sticky (same batch). One whole box was totally useless. I didnt realise this immediately. Side effects kept increasing with each dose and I kept feeling tired, nauseated, and lacked energy. This effect wore out 4-5 hrs after taking the pill and felt almost back to normal. I opened a new batch and things improved withi 2 days..less side effects and more energy levels. Other side effect is sweet taste. I will try a different brand"

"I started taking armour in November 2015. The first couple of days I felt more tired. But after 4-5 days, I wasn't tired throughout the day. I lost 6 lbs in that month. But then when I started my refill, all the weight came right back on. Is it possible for a whole batch to be bad?? Or did my body regulate to that dose?"

"I have had every symptom of hypothyroidism except constipation. I tried Levothyroxine for a month and nothing. I've been taking Armour for 6 weeks and I feel better but I haven't lost any weight despite totally changing my diet and exercising with cardio and strength training for at least 5 days a week. This has never been typical for me. I have been taking 60 mg of Armour Thyroid. My doctor hasn't increased this dosage fearing it will cause hypo but I cannot lose any weight and I've never been in this situation."

"After I gained 60 lbs in a 3 month period approximately 8 years ago, it was determined that I had Hypothyroidism. I was given Synthroid which stopped the weight gain, however, I have never felt quite right even though my TSH and T3/T4 would to be normal. My hands and feet were always cold, my eyebrows were very thin, always tired, etc, etc. I started taking Armour Thyroid about 4 months ago and feel terrific. I have even started losing weight (15 lbs so far). I am worried that I have been having problems trying to fill my prescription lately. Please tell me that they are not going to discontinue Armour Thyroid?? I am getting several different explanations as to why it is not readily available."

"After several weeks I finally got the doctor to change my script to Armour Thyroid I have begun to feel better. Now I have to convince him to increase the dose. He first told me he would "get in trouble with the law" if he prescribed Armour but when I told him I would call a pharmacy to check what he said, he recanted and ordered me Armouor Thyroid 15 mg. I have had Armour on and off through my life. The lab tests were not right as they had the level ranges too high. Now I am back to square one. I am looking forward to feeling the way I should. God bless Armour Thyroid."

"Diagnosed with mild hypothyroid a month ago. Started feeling great, but also started getting a rash all over my upper thigh, it isn't itchy or red. It's just raised like poisin oak rash. Waiting to see if it is truly the Armour causing the rash. I haven't seen many people with this side effect. I would hate to stop it (30 mg)."

"Dr put me on Armor Thyroid after taking me off Levothyroxine and Armor has done absolutely nothing in the way of making me feel better. I was taken off Levothyroxine because I felt as though I had bugs crawling on me so Dr took me off if it thinking I my be having a reaction to the medication. Since then, talking to my personal trainer who recommended that I see a his Dr who specializes in thyroid & hormones. I visited new Dr today they drew 5 vials of blood which they will test all levels of my thyroid, hormone level as well as any and all complete blood work including cholesterol. I'm awaiting an appt next week for results. Levothyroxine gave me great energy but lots of itching. Armor is out for me....no results in feeling better."

"Doctors will always try to put you on synthroid which is poison that has the worst side effects and once I started on Armor I could see the dark cloud leave. I still notice that I can only use a half of batch before I need to buy more because it went bad and I am still trying to get the perfect dose but I feel so much better with armor than the synthroid that doctors suggest. I only wish I could buy armor in Colombia SA because now I must go to the states every month to pick it up."

"I started on Armour 2 months ago. I was on levothyroxine for 3 months. I feel like my fogginess is gone (I call it being airheaded:). I'm still in the beginning phase but has anyone lost any weight on these pills??? I watch my diet and exercise (hired 2 different trainers) but have been stuck on my weight. I feel heavy and tired. Supposedly I'm 25-30 pounds overweight. I know if I lose weight it will help with my energy. I'm suppose do blood work next week. If my numbers are normal I think I may try to do a full hormone blood panel test and pay out of pocket."

"I've been on Armour for over 3 months now, and my TSH and T4 levels are only getting worse. I go to the Doctor every 3 weeks to have my blood drawn and there has been no improvement! Every time I go to the Doctor they keep having to up the dosage 30mg, and each increase I feel worse and worse. My hair has fallen out, I feel lethargic and achy all over, I can't sleep at night and when I finally do get to sleep I wind up staying in bed for 13 hours! I have no energy. "

"I was just diagnosed with underachieving thyroid. My labs have been low for quite some time. Trying to heal my leaky gut in hopes of getting my thyroid issues better. Well after working on it for 6 months with a Functional Medicine NP it wasn't better so I just started armour 30mg. Today is day 1 for me. Hoping many of the symptoms I suffer will get better. I really don't want to be on this. The symptoms I have are early am waking, low sex drive and anorgasmia, cold but sweating, fatigue, muscle loss, muscle weakness, dry skin, thinning hair."

"I've been taking Levoxyl brand, not the generic for about 10 years for my hypothyroidism with no side effects. Synthroid & Armour both didn't agree with me...synthroid gave me heart palpitations - at one point I thought I was having a heart attack! And Armour OMG the stench every time I opened the bottle made me want to hurl "
