Prilosec (omeprazole) "I love this stuff. Ended my reflux and perpetual sore throat. I was thankful for how quickly it worked. Now to the packaging! These pills are nearly inaccessible in the packaging they come in. I use a scissor to open the pockets where the pills are incased and then store the pills in a small bottle."

Prilosec OTC (omeprazole) "It was wonderful to be able to take one in the morning and be free of distress all day, but soon I began to have dizziness on arising which soon increased to all day. By process of elimination I found the cause to be Prilosec. The problem was resolved after discontinued use. Now I am taking ranitidine with no such side effects and very satisfied."

"I didn't know I had GERD as I've never experience heartburn. I did, however, experience difficulty swallowing and I constantly had to clear my throat. I couldn't get a sentence out without making this annoying noise. I thought I had post nasal drip, I was taking Claritin D every day (I stopped) and Flonase. My Primary sent me to an ENT, I complained about this throat thing forever. After listening to me talk and hearing the hoarseness in my voice the ENT said; "I don't think you have post nasal drip" put the camera through my nose and down my throat - I have Gerd... say whaa. I had no symptoms of that, so I thought. That day I started taking 40 mg of OMEPRAZOLE... It has changed my life... almost immediately it went 90% away. :-)"

"I have been taking it for 4 days and on the 3rd day my nose started running all day. Also, I had sneezing and now a sore throat and cough that hurts. My GERD was so bad that I had a "cobblestone" throat and it was hard to swallow some foods. Supposed to be on it for 2 months. Hope it gets better. Dry mouth at night and rapid heart beat are no fun either."

"Started this medication for my IBS a couple months ago and it was great, no stomach issues, I was digesting easily, etc. One week, I started having an immense amount of panic attacks, sadness, irritability, you name it. It impacted my relationship, it was just awful. I stopped taking it for two weeks and I didn’t have any panic attacks, but the side effects did not go away. Took it one more time just to be sure it was the medications, and sure enough, I had a panic attack and I could not stand/breathe/and I felt like death. Please avoid this if you can!"

"I recently start Omeprazoleas replacement for Ranitidine. While it treats my GERD beautifully - it gives me a lot of stomach gas. Not sure if this will abate with time. If not, I’ will ask my physician to try something else."

"I have suffered with acid reflux (inflammation) for over one year, which affected my life massively. I was at my wits end, I completely changed my lifestyle (diet) cutting out all spicy foods (which I love) swapping for yogurts, lots of vegetables and probiotics, helped a little but I'd still suffer with acid reflux every single day. In the end I felt depressed and unable to feel happy. I had an infection called "H pylori" which I feel caused me serious health issues including deficiencies with B12 and folic acid as well as many many more health issues. Anyways in short I've recently been prescribed Esomeprazole 20 mg and OMG within one day I felt miles better, reflux gone and so much stomach relief- this medicine really did help me hugely."

"Omeprazole is one horrible medicine. I’ve stopped taking it after 11 caps due to continuous stomach pain, constipation, bloating, lack of appetite. It’s been three days since I stopped but still having stomach cramps, bloating and feeling of fullness. Hope this subside soon."

"I have been taking Omeprazole 20 mg daily - for over 10 years to treat acid reflux. I also have asthma and a tendency to get chest infections. At the beginning of the year I developed a cough; different to any cough I had previously experienced. The cough would exhaust me during the day and keep me awake at night. I was eventually sent to an ENT specialist who told me I had a GERD cough and to double my dose of Omeprazole, which I did. After I increased the dose my cough became much worse. I decided to stop the Omeprazole and try to manage with over the counter remedies. Within days my cough improved dramatically and now, 3 weeks after stopping Omeprazole it continues to improve. Whilst I never attributed my worsening asthmatic problems to Omeprazole I noticed that suddenly my chest was much better and I was not needing to use my bronchodilator inhaler."

Prilosec OTC (omeprazole) "Thank God. I have not had to take the two pack of Prilosec that I have left. My story.. I was miserable for months taking several different otc medications. I finally called a research facility to try to join a study, to help cure my gerd. The agent I spoke with asked me if Prilosec had failed as a cure. I said id never tried it so I didn't qualify. If that was the way they determined the seriousness of your problem. (If Prilosec couldn't cure you, you must be really bad) then prilosec must be the best otc out there. So I took the 21 day cycle. I was so uncomfortable that I took 2 the first day. I don't recommend that, but I did. After 3 days I say a small improvement. After 1 week I was sure it was working. 21 days later completly cured"

"I cannot seem to tolerate any PPI's. Felt dreadful on all of them. Many people have shared these experiences with me. Aren't there any innovative medications they can come up with. It's about time the medical professionals hear these awful experiences and push for better treatments."

"I was taking Omeprazole 20 mg/day continuously since 10/2012 for acid Reflux. There was no appreciable effect felt. 2 months back my doctor increased to 1 tablet of 40mg/day. I found good improvement in my appetite and acid reflux problem. But 1 week back onwards I have shortness of breadth even with light work and I could not lie flat. I saw the result of a survey on this website and I am 68. I want to ask doctor again immediately."

Prilosec OTC (omeprazole) "My doctor prescribed Protonix which worked most of the time and every now and then I would take a Tums. Then my doctor left and I didn't request a refill soon enough, so I decided to try Prilosec OTC. My GERD disappeared after the first day. I took it daily for 14 days as described on the box and never had a problem at all. My GERD pain is coming back though, so I will be buying another box."

Prilosec (omeprazole) "I took this drug for several weeks and my GERD cleared up. Then, out of the blue, I became moody and angry at everyone. I read up on some of the side effects and found that mood issues have been associated. I tend to have this when I take anything that amps up your metabolism so it must contain something that is somewhat related to that."

Prilosec (omeprazole) "For starters I have anxiety, and a lot of reviews said that they had severe anxiety while on this medication which really worried me. I waited for a while until I was in a positive mindset to take it to avoid quitting the medication over something that wasn't real like my normal anxiety. Eventually I started and by day 2 I started to notice my stomach stopped causing problems. I didn't necessarily feel good, but I stopped feeling bad which was positive. I got really happy about this as I've been dealing with heartburn for over a year now. However, on day 5, I noticed I started waking up with decently intense anxiety which was brand new to me. Now when I say this, I don't want you to think I was full blown panicking and hospitalized because I was not. I just felt very on edge and was able to push through it fine. But after time I realized it was enough for me to give up on trying this medicine. All in all, you'll be fine to try it, and if it makes you feel bad you will definitely know."

"I was prescribed this medication approximately 4 years ago. I experienced severe heartburn and reflux, so much so that I had to sleep with the head of my bed elevated. I filled the prescription but left it in the medicine cabinet for a year without taking one pill. A year after filling it I made a dental appointment because I noticed that the enamel on my teeth was flaking off. The dentist asked me if I had GERD. I said, yes and then he asked me if I was on anything for it. I told him no and he suggested I take something immediately. Turns out the GERD eroded the enamel off of 17 teeth and I had to have extensive dental work done, to the tune of $20K. Expensive lesson to learn but one learned nonetheless. No side effects whatsoever."

Prilosec OTC (omeprazole) "My doctor gave me a sample of Prevacid for chronic heartburn and one pill taken at bedtime gave me the HIVES by the next morning. Never having had hives, I freaked and called the doctor immediately. I was then given PRILOSEC and have been 98.6% trouble free since then, switching to PRILOSEC OTC which was half of my cost of the prescription. It doesn't seem to matter what I eat: Mexican, Thai, Chinese or other spicy foods, chocolate, water, sodas, bland stuff, etc., I often get heartburn maybe 5 days out of 7. With Prilosec, I seldom have any discomfort, regardless of what I eat or drink. If I forget to take it daily, I'll get heartburn 36-48 hours after the last pill."

"Omeprazole has saved my life and giving me the confidence to eat food in and out of my house. My condition started about 4 years ago when I would notice food getting stuck in my throat. This got worse after 2 years. It even got to the stage I couldn't even enjoy a packet of crisps without it sticking in my throat. 1 day it got very serious where I felt food was stuck in my throat and I had to throw up to remove it. I made an appointment and got sent to hospital. After getting a camera put up my nose to view my upper esophagus the 2 doctors said there was nothing there and just drink more water. Thanks NHS. I knew that wasn't the case. I nearly lost all hope until I made an emergency appointment at my local doctors surgery. From that day on they prescribed me Almus 20mg Omepazole. 5 months on and I can eat whatever I want in confidence. The worry of family dinners and eating out with my wife is now a thing of the past. I am still careful how I eat and don't swallow too much at 1 time."

"I have been taking this for seven years, and it helped my heartburn and acid reflux. Before they tried me on this, my heartburn was so bad they were going to have to do an EGD to rule out an ulcer. I still have a few instances where I burp and have reflux, but the heartburn is gone. However, if I run out or forget to take it for more than one day, the bad heartburn starts up again, so I'm sure I will be taking this for the rest of my life."
