"Lubiprostone has worked very well for me. It was one of only two or three medications that my insurance would cover for constipation. I do not have IBS-C, just chronic idiopathic constipation. I've been on it about 6 months. The first month or so was pretty rough - shortness of breath, bad headaches, diarrhea, the works. But if you stick with it these side effects will subside. The only things I have now are just a tiny slight pressure in my chest and a runny nose right after I take it, lasting about an hour. My only complaint is the cost. It is very expensive. I am hoping that one day soon there will be a generic prescription available."
