"My first round of orthovisc I was told would last 6 to 9 months for my bone on bone knee pain. The shots were painless and I was pain free for two years. Now I am back for my second round. It sure beats knee replacement which was my only other option. I am having pain again so I am ready for round two. Hope it lasts as long this time. I highly recommend it."

"Had my third shot today; bi-lateral. I have to say I have seen a major improvement in both knees. I would wake up at night and go to turn over, my lower leg would not move and my upper leg (above the knee) would pop and grind on the joint. When this happens now I can feel the upper and lower joints cushioned by the Orthovisc. I felt relief about 3 weeks after the first set of shots. I am confident that after the 3rd set of shots I will have the pain relief I am looking for. I would recommend to anyone give this a try before you have total knee replacement."

"I believe that more often than not that negative posts are more prevalent than positive posts on these feeds. I have had several 3 series gel injections and before that tried the single dose injections. I get some relief from them. Especially if it overlaps with a cortisone shot. By no means do they last 6 months. Yes my knee is cranky after the shots. I think the second one is the worst. My knee does not catch as much. Takes a little time for the knee to get use to the fullness and soreness subsides but I get several months of relief after. I’m a candidate for full knee replacement and I just haven’t committed to it yet. As knee gets worse the shots seem to get more uncomfortable. It’s a bandaid. Knee pain goes from a 9 to 6 after."

"This is my 3rd time for injections but it has been 7 yrs. since the last one. The shots hurt so much I cried. (I am 66 and need replacement surgery). The doc did the injections with my knees bent, he said, because the cartilage is gone and it creates a bigger space. It's been 5 hrs since the injections. Feels better, icing every hour. Hope next week is better."

"This is my third round of orthovisc. My great fear was the pain during the injections as well as after. I got the first round last Monday. The first knee was killer! For the other knee she used lidocaine type medicine and then the orthovisc. Easy peazy!!!!! I am eager to get back on my bike and ride until winter gives me no choice but to stay indoors. I am grateful for orthovisc. I've had 3 years of success - although I do NOT recommend waiting a year between treatments. It was a bad decision for me."

"orthovisc is like any injection: the injector is the key; not every doctor, esp. a pa. is a great injector; I had horrible knee pain at night, took MRI, had a torn miniscus, flap tear and I guess some arthritis; anyway, did my 4 injections with great orthopod, who uses ultra sound guidance while injecting; as I remember, the first round of 4 was ok; had a 2nd round of 4 and have been totally pain free for over 3 years. So thats my story. Be very, very careful about the dr. you are working with. Read the above about the man with bone on bone; my girlfiriend, after surgery was bone on bone and was told she would never play tennis again; she went on orthovisc for the last nine years , and is still playing singles. She is 73."

"I just had my second injection on 12/2--one more on 12/9. The first injection was very painful and my knee was sore for two days. The second injection did not hurt at all and my knee was fine immediately after. This knee pain has been going on for two years and I finally have relief. I'm just hoping it lasts longer than 6-months. I would definitely advise anybody who has this problem to at least try it. It is working for me!"

"I have arthritis in both knees. One is severe bone on bone the other is moderate. So they started injections in my left knee first as the right one wasn't bothering me too much as the cortizone shots was still slightly effective. So got two shots not too bad as far as pain. Go get the 3rd one and the doctor didn't take her time like before to find just the right spot and she injected me. As soon as she started putting the fluid into my knee I felt a burning liquid feeling going from the injection site (the outside of my knee to the inside of my knee) It didn't stop there. It felt as she put more in like my knee was going to explode out the side. I was not expecting that. I just held my breath and when she was done I said. Wow that hurt. Why"

"Osteoarthritis in right knee eventually lead to bone on bone. After my last scope Nov. 2015, the pain persisted to where I had a steroid injection. It relieved some of the pain for 2 months (considered non-effective according to FDA), then the excruciating pain returned. Last nonsurgical option was Orthovisc, which all 3 injections were very painful. I didn't experience relief until 2-3 weeks after the last injection. I have been pain free, with an occasional very brief episode (seconds) of some pain. Now it's October 2017, and it's been wearing off. But 12 months worth of no pain was definitely worth it. So glad I toughed it out!"

"Did not work for my minimal OA! I was left with Orthovisc as my only alternative after my insurance company decided they would no longer cover Euflexxa which I used with great success for 4 years. I will now have to pay almost $1000 out of pocket for the better product, such a shame! Orthovisc gave me no relief at all; The Euflexxa I was getting 18 months on continuous relief."

"I'm 50 years old and overweight. I had a torn meniscus repair (R) in July 2011. I have osteoarthritis in both my knees. I had a cortizone injection in my (R) knee and felt okay for a week, still taking medicines, still in pain. Had the 3 shots of Orthovisc in November and never received any relief. Changed medication (meloxicam) and was given pain medicines. Pain medicines work if I take two, but it really upsets my stomach. "

"I started the knee injection on July 31, 2018 and completed 3 injections in both knees on Sept 5, 2018. 5 weeks since my last injection and knees are greatly improved. I am 71 years old. The weeks prior to this week, were worrisome. I was thinking they were not going to work. But this week has shown great improvement. I started riding my three wheel bicycle and that has helped a lot. I would highly recommend the injections, however, I would add , listen to your doctor and rest for 48 hours and go slow. Expect it to take several week to show improvement. Well, worth it"

"My first injection was easy peasy the second injection easy peasy. I'm currently on the 3rd injection and it has been a killer I feels like the space in between my bone was separating it was odd painful feeling and hurts 2 days later and I have swelling on top of my knee and around the injection site , however this knee has been a mess since my Arthroscopic surgery last year so this could have some to do with excessive swelling. I'm hoping this will give me my life back. UPDATE: I had to do the 4th injection a week later then planned and oh my gosh.....what a god send this injection felt like my 1st injection (easy peasy), I highly recommend taking a week break between 3rd and 4th injections.... My ortho told me I won't see real benefit for several week. I currently can walk without excruciating pain."

"I have bone on bone on my left knee, so bad I was ready for a replacement. My Dr. suggested we "give the shots a shot", if they don't work, we'll take the next step. He is an expert at giving shots to the knee as I felt no pain, just a bit of pressure as he did each injection. At first I was very disappointed as I didn't feel any difference. About a month and a half after we finished the series, I noticed I had no pain in my knee! Lasted about a year, going in for another 3 shots next month. Dr. says it works for some, but not all, and I'm glad I 'gave it a shot'."

"I was switched to Orthovisc last three years from Supartz the previous seven years. Insurance will not supply Supartz. With Supartz seven weekly injections gave me tremendous relief for a full year. Orthovisc with seven injections lasted less than six months. Same relief but less duration. Last year I had fourteen injections in my "bad knee" and six in my "not as bad knee" divided every six months. Within ten months I was in pain and very limited mobility. The only redeeming factor of Orthovisc is my co-payment for ten injections is $13.33 total."

"I just started my second round of Orthovisc. The first round was administered by the surgeon and was tolerable. I had my first shot of my second round last week by a Non Operative Orthopedist because the surgeons within this practice will no longer perform shots and this first shot was unbearable. My knee is killing me so much worse than before the shot. Not sure I will continue tomorrow for the second. I have been bone on bone for 4 years and they refuse to operate because of other under lying orthopedic issues. I really cannot say it was super beneficial the first time but wanted to give it another try being in severe pain. I think it depends on the individual as everyone is different."

"Be positive. If you're in your forties when your pain starts you are very very lucky, I'm 24. So far I have had one shot in each knee. They were both painful, but nothing I can't handle because let's face it, we're getting these painful shots because we have a yet more painful condition. In the end, mine were fine, but my doctor DID use Lidocaine which he injected first. I have already had the cortisone injections and trust me, these Orthovisc ones start working a lot faster (but you REALLY get out your cane the first two days after the shot I warn you). "

"I received my first set a year ago as I have no kneecap. Afterwards I was able to do physical therapy. I was able to do excersise that I hadn't done since I was a child. This medication lasted a year. I started to feel the same pain about a month or so ago. I contacted my Dr and we are doing it again. This injection has made such a difference in my life. I am very grateful for it."

"I had been getting steroid injections in both knees (Arthoscopic medial meniscus in both) that worked for approximately 6-8 months. I just has Orthovisc 2 weeks ago and I'm very impressed with the results. I've been on my legs for 3-days building fences and I just realized how pain free my knees have been. I will wait to see how long it lasts, but I will do this before even considering a new knees."

"Unfortunately, the 3 injections in my knee have done nothing to alleviate the pain, in fact, it is 3 weeks after all shots & my knee is slightly worse than before. I am hoping that by 6 months, when it wears off for those who experienced excellent results, for me, it will be back to "normal". Perhaps another brand will work better for me. The 1st shot did not hurt at all, but after 2 days, it became very painful, so much so I could not sleep. It did finally settle down, but I did consider not finishing the shots at all. 2nd was somewhat painful and left a small bruise. The third was just a little painful. Before the shots, I wore a knee brace during the day & do that now, too My doctor says I am not a candidate for replacement surgery."
