Prozac (fluoxetine) "I’m glad I finally decided to give Prozac a try for my obsessional OCD and GAD. I’m 29 and have been struggling with the disorders my entire life. Only 20 mg of Prozac has lessened my suicidal ideation and obsessive ruminations significantly; of course, I still need therapy. I never increased the dose because I experienced some undesirable sexual side effects (desensitation, lack of desire), and I’m glad I didn’t because 20 mg works just fine. It does take a while, however, to notice the change. My doctor added 150 mgs of Wellbutrin to counteract the sexual side effects, which has worked. The combination has me feeling a whole lot better. The only annoying side effect that I have now is excessive yawning, but it’s a small price to pay."

Prozac (fluoxetine) "First week was hell, more anxiety and panic attacks. Had to leave work early one day for the anxiety, also left a family event early. But now... Starting second week and starting to feel like myself again! As long as things continue this way will be happy on this drug! Without the first weeks' side effects would give it a 10."

Prozac (fluoxetine) "I had my first major depressive episode in the late 80's when my first child was a toddler. I was put on 20 mg of Prozac and felt like I got my life back. However, it seemed to quit working and the next 20 years I went through almost every SSRI there is as well as a couple of common anti-anxiety drugs and none of them seemed to work very well. About 4 years ago I went back on Prozac and this time I was taking 60 mg for ocd. It has worked quite well but I think my body is getting used to it again. My doctor wants me to consider changing to Lovox. I had thought I had already tried that in the past but I have to do something because I feel like I am slipping into the abyss again."

"I have been on this medication fluoxetine for a little over a month. I should’ve been on it sooner but it sat in my kitchen cabinet for weeks after reading all of the bad reviews and side effects online. I wish I hadn’t done that and wish just started it because it has helped me soooo much. I started on 10mg and increased my dosage to 20mg after 3 weeks. I honesty started to feel better after a week and a half of taking it. Yes the side effects suck. I had panic attacks, nausea, night sweats, headaches BUT most of the side effects went away within 2 weeks. My psychiatrist put me on this medication because I have OCD, GAD, mild depression and some phobias. I was terrified to take this medication because of the side effects but I’m so glad I started taking it. It’s improved my life more than I ever thought it could!"

"I've been on fluoxetine for about 2 years now and I've never been so pleased with something in my life. It really helps with the anxiety that OCD causes and the obsessive thoughts that I used to have. I now live a stress-free life!"

Prozac (fluoxetine) "I've taken Prozac for 15 years, started when my husband was critically ill. It was a life saver, it stopped me from crying all the time. He passed away in 1998 and continued taking it for depression..was taking 40mg a day and yes it takes all sexual desire away. I remarried 6 years ago. I weened myself off of it because of that. I developed Compulsive Overeating...that's all I thought about. I gained a lot of weight so I'm back on it. I could care less about sex. I don't like going to sleep the dreams are vivid, but it does help me with my appetite. I don't think about food all the time like I did."

Prozac (fluoxetine) "I was prescribed Prozac 1 yr ago, and it has made a huge difference in my depression. I didn't even realize it was used for OCD, which I also have. I came to terms with my OCD years ago, so it wasn't my focus when seeking medical help. However, my counting episodes are few and far between in recent months. They used to be daily. No drug is perfect, and it's not the only one I'm on (sometimes combos are necessary), but I feel much better than I did while on Effexor, which I tried for more than 2 years."

Prozac (fluoxetine) "I started Prozac for severe Harm OCD and social anxiety and mood swings from age 11 until 19. Initially 20 mg kept my intrusive thoughts at bay, however My anxiety remained. Every few years following I would require an increase in medication; and with every increase I became more numb, agitated, argumentative and arrogant. I stopped caring about everything. I couldn't cry when family member died, I couldn't have crushes on girls, low sexual desire, I developed severe TMJ and was living on autopilot. This drug made me care about nothing. At age 19 I developed PSSD (Post SSRI Sexual dysfunction). It took me 6 months off medications with complete impotence to get weak sexual function back and I'm only 19. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy:("

"I went from 20mg to 60mg and felt tip top. It curbed my obsessive compulsive disorder and it no longer ruled my life completely. Unfortunately I was feeling that good I started drinking, TO OFTEN, which stopped the medication working. I then convinced myself it would no longer work even though I stopped drinking. I then went onto citalopram, which did nothing for me at all. I then missed a docs appointment and then decided I would get through it all without tablets. I was ok for a while until the anxiety, OCD started to bully me again, I was a nightmare to live with, countless arguments with my missus, I couldn't handle anything shouting, screaming at my children. I'm back on fluoxedtine now, and really regret coming off it like I did."

"I started taking fluoxetine after running through a lot of SSRIs. My Obsessive Compulsive Disorder was so severe it was debilitating. I tried Zoloft and Seroquel as well as, Luvox and Anafranil (Anafranil awful side effects). After taking 300 mg of Zoloft and just not feeling right I went to my doctor and we switched to fluoxetine. I WAS 100 PERCENT better in 5 days. This saved my life. However, please be patient it may take some trial and error to find the right medicine for you. Don't give up, keep at it."

"I have OCD, depression, anxiety and PTSD. I had tried Fluoxetine in my early twenties and it seemingly caused me suicidal thoughts so I had to stop taking it. Now I'm in my later twenties, me and my psychiatrist decided to try it again and I am so thankful. It is helping me so much with my mental health-especially my OCD. I'm on 60mg right now and starting tomorrow, increasing it to 80mg. I had tried about a dozen meds before this one and nothing was helping..I was exhausted and losing hope. Please don't lose hope. Even if Fluoxetine isn't the one for you, there will be one."

"I can say this drug fluoxetine is a life saver. I had Pure O Ocd from past 9 years for which I tried to manage without any medications and it was going good. But since last year it was so bad that I wasn’t the old me and was really depressed. It was terrible for me. Then I decided to take a psychiatrist opinion to start Fluoxetine. My psychiatrist advised me to start from 20mg daily and starting 2-3 days I actually felt better - may have been the placebo effect. Then after, the intrusive thoughts and my anxiety reached to another level. I had an appointment with my psychiatrist and I was told to increase the dose to 40mg. I am on week 5 and believe me this gave my life back. I feel more fresh/energetic and now able to concentrate more. Most people stop using it in 2-3 weeks but I would suggest you not to loose hope and trust fluoxetine. I know SSRI’s work differently in different people but you should wait at-least 5 weeks to see to start noticing it’s effect.Just relax and trust fluoxetine."

Prozac (fluoxetine) "After 2 weeks, this crap called medication made my OCD WORSE, Then a few weeks later i was so depressed that i couldn't even get out of bed. I went from being a healthy lady with moderate ocd, to a majorly depressed obese pig in 2 months. Thanks prozac. Dont put this depression (causing) pill down your throat. Talk to your doctor about other options. Also, i just want to let you all know something, 50% of psychiatrists will do anything to make their appointment with you quicker, even if that includes just opening their book of medications and picking a random one in your category (in my case, ocd). Always try medication free solutions BEFORE popping a pill. eg, ocd training, therapy, natural treatments, etc"

Prozac (fluoxetine) "I've been on Prozac for about 4-5 months. My doctor started me on the lowest dosage (10mg) and we had to increase it. Currently, I've been on 40mg/day for about 5 weeks or so. It seems to be helping me with my OCD somewhat. I've noticed that I haven't been quite as bad as I used to be, but I'm also seeing a counselor, which is helping as well. I've heard that for OCD, you may need to go as high as 60-80mg for people with OCD. We may change my dosage in the future."

Prozac (fluoxetine) "Did not work with my body chemistry, much like Luvox, Prozac likely contributed to my long-term chronic fatigue that has lasted for 2 years ever since taking these two SSRIs. Prozac didn't help my depression nor OCD at all, made me feel numb, and in-love with sleep and my bed - I would sleep for 20 hours and lay in bed the rest of the time. Never would have been able to hold a job while on this med... My OCD was, in the end, only helped by exposure response therapy (ERP). I severely wish I'd tried ERP before going on any meds. My OCD used to be 11/10, now it's 2/10 all from ERP alone. Be so cautious with SSRIs- as they've seemingly permanently damaged me :("

Prozac (fluoxetine) "I love Prozac. It really helped with keeping me relaxed and in a decent mood and severely lessened my need to feed the OCD. For some reason my doctor recommended that I should try Zoloft instead. For the first two weeks on Zoloft I had diarrhea and now after six months on it I am starting to have moderate to severe pain in my legs. My leg muscles always feel as if they need a good stretch."

Prozac (fluoxetine) " Recommend using Lovan 20mg the generic brand of Prozac. Break in half to start at 10mg a day. Your looking for small signs of success. Keep a daily journal of your time taking it so you can look back TRUST ME this helps when spotting reaction patterns and finding right exact dosage amount. For some LESS Prozac is more benefit. Mania / sweating / twitching muscles was part of my first 2 months but settled down. Alcohol leaves toxins in your blood for 2 days that stop the medication working fully. Sex drive gone by 80%.** I have still had to apply daily mental awareness techniques and being aware of my thoughts to get great results. Not been a cure all but is brilliant"

Prozac (fluoxetine) "I can’t recommend fluoxetine enough. I had been suffering for weeks with debilitating OCD/anxiety and depression, Having been SSRI free for over 4 months but it came back with vengaence. In essence, fluoxetine works! For those nervous about the side affects - the first time I took it the anxiety/OCD was seriously INTENSE and took 8 days to work. At points it felt like I was losing the plot. If it got that bad again this time I was planning on taking Xanax while it kicks in. However, I’m 4 days in now and the anxiety/OCD has been pretty bad but I was able to ride it out. It’s now Day 5 evening and I can feel it is starting to work again. Depression has gone, head feels clearer with no more anxiety alongside the intrusive thoughts. It may take longer for you so don’t give up before 1 month."

The medicine has done wonders for my disability but has done nothing good for my relationship with my boyfriend. Prozac has taken my sex drive completely away. We try everything to bring it back but nothing works. I had no choice but to take myself off the medicine."

"I’ve been on Prozac for almost a year now and I love it so much. Before Prozac, I was spitting compulsively everyday for hours on end throughout the day. I would even wake up and spit compulsively sometimes because I thought that poison would go into my mouth and I needed to spit it out to rid my body of it. I also wear a medical mask on my face most of the time to “protect” me from poison in the air. After being on Prozac 80 mg for two and a half months, I began to slowly stop spitting as much. My compulsions went from happening 5-6 hours a day or sometimes the whole day to less than an hour a day. I still wear my medical mask and it’s certainly not a “cure all” but I’m very grateful for it. I do want to add that the first two or three months, there was an increased agitation and anxiety but that faded away eventually. Prozac took me about 3-4 months to really get full benefits from it. Give it time to work before you decide it may not be right for you."

Prozac (fluoxetine) "I tried this medication for a week and had a horrible experience. I didn't sleep for two days and completely lost my appetite. I did not eat anything and lost three pounds. I was already skinny to begin with. So, if you want to be malnourished and sleep-deprived and feel like a crack addict, this is the medication for you. It does help with anxiety, however."

Prozac (fluoxetine) "Prozac has been pretty good for the depression, my anxiety has been worse though. I get shaky when I get anxious and my knees feel wobbly. I don't feel some of the side effects such as heart palpitations or chest pressure just anxious. Zoloft caused heart issues but I felt like doing some things like going to the gym. With Prozac--no heart issues but I feel more on the lower end with less energy. Started 20 mg 5 months ago then 30mg for a month now 40 mg recently. I hope the anxiety gets better."
