"Giving it two stars because it does serve its purpose- birth control. But it's so not worth the side effects I had for the first week after putting it in place. I had horrifying dreams on the 3rd night and woke up in terror. I was mostly depressed and hated people around me. I was easily irritated by small things. I was negative and wanted to be alone. After noticing the change in my mood I took it out five days later. Just in half a day, I have noticeable improvement in my mood. I wanted to be around my friends again. I'm happier. I wouldn't recommend this form of birth control to any of my friend."

"I was on the NuvaRing for 6 years. I loved the convenience of it and had minimal symptoms up until maybe a year ago. I did have mood swings on it but not much worse than the typical PMS ones. The last year or so I kept getting UTI's. My partner gets scraped by the ring every time and the pain during sex brought me almost to tears every time. We decided it needed to go. Talked to my DR who explained as we get older our bodies can react differently to hormones. So a birth control you start at 25 may have horrible side effects at 30. Weird I thought but oh well. I switched over to the pill and although I'll miss the ring. The anxiety I didn't have before, the pain during sex, the UTI's those I wont miss. Also randomly made my legs go numb and had some other issues the drs swear the NuvaRing didn't caused. My advice, try it it could be great for you it was great for many years but as our bodies change so does our tolerance of hormones and such."

"I’ve used NUVA ring in the past but just got back on it about 8 months ago. It was fine I also suffer from really bad migraines so I do noticed I tend to get a little bit more headaches (not sure if it’s related to the birth control) but just within the last 2 months I’ve noticed a chemical smell coming from my Vjayjay! I know it’s not BV, yeast or a sexually infection as I get checked constantly. I noticed when I take the ring out the 4th week to get my period smell is gone, 2 days after I insert new ring smell is back and it’s very strong to the point I can smell it outside my pants! That’s a deal breaker for me! I’m a very clean person and I won’t walk around with any vaginal odor! I took the ring out today and my underwear had a VERY STRANGE CHEMICAL smell! I probably will never get back on the ring again I’ll just stick with the pill. That’s about the only bad side effect I had with the ring."

"I've been on the nuva ring for about 3 years now. I have had no problems except I literally have no sex drive anymore. Which really sucks. I constantly feel bad for my boyfriend of 4 years because I just have no desire for it at all, which makes sex painful because I am not wet enough. This is unfortunate because I love every thing about the nuva ring besides that one issue. However, I am still probably going to switch to something else because that is a big factor for me."

"Age:30 I knew someone who had been on nuvaring for sometime and really liked it. Decided to try it and have been on it for about 9 months. Although the ring worked well at preventing pregnancy and slight discomfort here and there, it has turned out a horrible mistake. I did not know how serious the end result would be. I had no history of clots or anything and ended up with pulmonary embolism. "Significant" clots in both lungs and a 5 day hospital stay, including a day in the ICU. I had a couple episodes of shortness of breath within a couple days then on the third day I woke up and could not catch my breath. Breathing was very heavy and deep, heart was very erratic and accelerated. Had to have some eko thing done to break clots, and will have to do at least 6 months of blood thinners. I'm completely over this and I hope I have no more issues with my body due to this, cardiac or respiratory especially. NO MORE for me"

"I switched to nuvaring 4 yeas ago from orthotricyclen. I've had absolutely no side effects, and it's the easiest form of birth control I've ever taken. My periods are lighter is the only thing I've noticed. It's unfortunate that I'm seeing so many bad experiences on here - I honestly recommend it to all my girlfriends."

"After my first months removal almost immediately my mood coming down from this was very angry. I take birth control to help with cramps and a heavy cycle. The cramps were there with the ring. The second month which is currently my situation is I'm 11 days in and I haven't gotten out of bed in 2 days. I'm a happy person not angry never depressed. These past 2 days I'm angry sad depressed. I removed it today for fearing it getting worse. I do not recommend this to any woman. "

"My experience has been good so far. I've been on Nuvaring for three weeks now and I'm about to have my first period. I have not gained weight, it has helped clear my acne and I am not pregnant, so it works. The only downsides have been lots of breast tenderness which has FINALLY passed and bad cramps, randomly. I've never had bad cramps so that part does suck. I plan to continue using this form of birth control."

"Day 1. Age 41. Nuvaring was easy to put in I must say I felt kinda high off it but I haven’t taken birth control in over 12 years. 1st the feeling was good after I got the ring adjusted so it didn’t hurt. Day 1 at night I couldn’t sleep tried kept waking up legs hurting and the discharge was more then expected. Day 2 I took a nap in the day for 2 hours & removed it. Best sleep I had yet. Put it back in went back to sleep for another 2 hours. Woke up with leg pain again & shortness of breath. I kept going & kept it in. Started to burn down there & I chalked it up to the amazing sex I had a day before I put this in & figured it was from the condom use. Wrong. Next night still couldn’t sleep leg pain. So I removed it while watching a 45 minute movie to see if the leg pain went away. The burning did not go away! I tried putting it back in and it started really burning and itching! Leg pain, burning and lack of sleep also felt depressed as well which I chalked up as lack of sleep but now not sure. I am done"

"I don't normally do these but I have to share what I went through on the Nuvaring so that maybe it can help someone else understand more about it. I had been taking the Nuva for 2+ years with no complaints. I was/am currently in a monogamous relationship. Very happy. We've been together for many years now but we're still quite young. (Early 20s) one thing that was never reliable was our sex life. I desired him and vice versa, but I was just never in the mood. This went on for a couple years and all along I thought it was me. Many fights came out of this. Long story short, I ran out of refills and went a few weeks without and realized the nuva was surpressing my libido. It almost cost me my relationship. Take from that what you will."

"I have been on the NuvaRing for almost 6 years, I decided to try it due to the fact that I had a hard time remembering to take the pill every day. I absolutely love the ring and have recommended it to most of my friends. What first was initially hard for me was remembering what day and how many weeks it was in, I found an app for my phone which helped tremendously. The pros are definitely that you don't have to take it every day and it's comfortable, I sometimes forget that it is there. Cons would have to be the decrease in sex drive but a little exercise helps with that. I've had no pregnancy scares or break through bleeding. All in all the ring beats the pill and the Depo shot."

"So I’ve been nuvaring for about 2 months now after having my little girl in March. This birth control has given me so many symptoms, I’m going crazy! Nausea, Increased appetite, cramps, headaches, and mood swings! I have to apologize to my husband when he gets home from work tonight because I’ve been being SO mean to him and I know he’s wondering what the hell is going on! This is my first time being on birth control in 5 years & I absolutely hate it. Even growing up my body hated birth control & I always advocated against it. I let my dr. talk me into not getting my tubes tied because I have 2 kids and I’m only 27. But I KNOW we don’t want more kids, I’m content with my 2 and we plan to adopt a child when they’re older. I’m scheduled for a consultation in 2 weeks for tubal litigation and I’m going through with it. This experience with nuvaring has been the worst! I’m not compromising my well being for birth control when I know I’m physically done having babies."

"I have been on Nuvaring for four years. I had major cycts on my overies when I was younger and was forced to change my birth control medications six times in three years. I was skeptical on taking the Depo shot and any IUD for fear that I would have cysts develope again. My doctor wanted to conduct an exploratory surgery. I had to try something immediately. I asked my doctor about the Nuvaring. If it didn't help, I would go through with the surgery. I was constantly in pain and I was fed up with it. I read the information and started my dose. After 24 hours, I felt wonderful. In four years, I haven't had a cyst. Lighter, shorter periods, no weight gain, less acne, healthier skin and hair, and very little PMS. I highly recommend it."

"I've been using Nuvaring for about 3 months now and I thought that the extremely bad anxiety was cause by other problems and that it'd go away but it hasn't and has only gotten worse. My face has been breaking out more than when I was in high school. My sex drive has decreased tremendously! I've never had depression till I started Nuvaring and its probably became the worst part of all of this. I started getting leg cramps which usually never happen and is supposed to be a sign of blood clots as stated in the side effects. I WOULD NOT recommend this to anyone. I could go on and on about other side effects from this but I wanted to point out the ones that have effected me the most."

"I used the nuvaring for about 8 years as a birth control after my fist child. My periods were short and light (3 days) and it didn't affect my mood. I had always suffered from heavy periods and the pills would make me irritable. There were times where my husband would feel it during intercourse but that just meant it wasn't properly inserted. (Adjusted it and continued) though the package insert says you can have it off for 6 hours, I never dared to try. (Just in case) I stopped the NR when I was ready for my second baby and got pregnant in 4 months and had a tubal ligation. I recommend the ring to all of my girlfriends!"

"This is my last round of the ring after over 12 years of using Nuvaring. I can recall the first few months of using it having depression. After that subsided, I noticed my bad acne had completely gone away but also my sex drive as well. I was told by my doctor to continue to use it if it works well for me in other ways. Fast forward to now, I’ve had an insanely difficult time losing weight. And it’s now come down to the possibility that it’s the nuvaring. While it wasn’t the cause of my weight gain, I’m strongly wondering if it’s the cause of my weight loss resistance. I’ve been consistently working out plus diet only to lose a few pounds here and there. I’ve tried so many diet lifestyles and would stick with it for several months to no avail. So now after much contemplation, it is now time to do without the nuvaring. And it would be nice to have a sex drive again! And it will be interesting to see how much it affected me in other ways that I hadn’t noticed."

"This will be my third month on Nuva ring and I am having really bad headaches and acne problems. I haven't gained any weight from the pill, but my acne issue has been worse since I have used the ring. But the ring is comfortable and very convient but I think the hormones are too much for my body."

"I have been using Nuvaring for a year now and have decided to take it out. In that year I gained almost 30 pounds and have had insane mood swings. I kept it in so long because I thought other things we're causing this untill I talked to my doctor."

"I've been on NuvaRing for 3 months. I chose Nuvaring because I knew I couldn't be trusted with taking a pill everyday but wanted birth control to help regulate my periods, ease mood swings, and clear skin. On Nuvaring still have mood swings, more headaches now, at times feel very tired, still have bad breakouts and also an almost non existent sex drive. I assumed all this was because I was home with 3 little kids, until I noticed a pattern while on the Nuvaring. Three days after I take the ring out, I have a surge of sexual desire (also this is when my period starts, figures). I'm going to stick with it for another 2 months to see how it goes, meanwhile I'm going to talk with my doctor again about better options."

"So I had tried the pill in college which left me 30lbs heavier, fast forward 4 years and I find myself trying to pick out a birth control that wouldn't cause such a dramatic weight gain. I tried Nuva per my OBGYN's suggestion. I really like how easy it is to use. I never had a problem inserting or removing along with no problems during intercourse. My periods were also lighter. Nuva really worked with my schedule. The downfall is that my face broke out with cystic acne (which is extremely painful). My breasts hurt 24/7. I have no sex drive. I constantly feel like I have a UTI or something. My appetite is up and down sometimes I feel sick for no reason. Also I get 1-2 headaches a day since starting nuva."

"I had a bad experience with the pill so I moved on & got the Nuvaring. I loved Nuvaring at first. I didn’t get a period every month which was nice. I also never got pregnant which was it’s main purpose. During the 4+ years of being on this ring, I had this inexplicable pain inside my vagina during sex. It felt as if someone were stabbing me with a very sharp knife. I went to different gynos begging for an answer. No one knew what it was. “Switch lubes” is often what I heard. ( I tried them all). This in turn made my libido a zero because it was so painful to have sex that I never wanted to. Not good on a brand new marriage. My husband & I eventually decided we wanted to get pregnant and it was only months after I got off Nuvaring that the pain went from a 10 to a 3 & eventually a zero. I would NOT recommend this product as it took many years to get back to normal."

"I started on NuvaRing after being on the DepoShot for 5 years (only supposed to be used for 3-4 needed to take a break). The first month was great. I didn’t notice any differences in mood and insertion was easy. I could feel it during sex but we would just take it out clean it and put it back in after. Second month I developed the worst yeast infection of my life. There would be times when my SO were trying to get intimate and I couldn’t feel anything at all like total numbness. Then month 3 came around. I lost any and all desire for sex. When I would force myself to have sex I couldn’t feel anything vaginally at all. Yeast infection was back with a vengeance and I noticed a lot of fatigue. After sitting on the toilet one night crying hysterically for no reason I decided to remove the ring and never look back. About 2 weeks have gone by, my sex drive is back and energy levels have returned to normal."

"I switched over to the NuvaRing from Gildess FE 1/20 simply for the convenience. Gildess worked great for me, no side effects, so I figured I would try NuvaRing. I had to stop it after two months. The second month on the ring, I experienced off and on anxiety, depression at times, unmotivated, and just not like myself. I attributed it to it being finals week in college... but when I didn't feel at peace at all during break, I knew something was wrong. I even flipped out on my boyfriend for no reason and ignored him. The final straw was the random crying outbursts I experienced. Nothing was bothering me, but I found myself fighting back random tears. Back to Gildess for me! Thank god! I can't sacrifice emotional stability for convenience."

"I have been on the NuvaRing for nearly seven months now and I love it. I am a busy college student and I was terrible about remembering to take the pill/I couldn't take it at a consistent time each day because I was never always home at a certain time. This lead to a lot of scares. Since I've been on the ring I have not had any adverse side effects. No weight gain, no mood disturbances, no pain, etc. It has been wonderful for me and I don't think I'd ever consider another form of birth control at this point in my life."
