"Only lasted 5 days before I had to remove it. 24 hours after insertion headaches started. Then my vagina complety dried out and became very itchy. Nausea kicked in so badly I started vomiting and my face broke out in severe acne. Every joint ached and started stiffening up. My mental health plummeted and I started having crying fits out of nowhere. I removed it at 5 days and 10 days later I am still suffering headaches, extreme fatigue and nausea which is slowly getting better and every other issue stopped within 24 hrs of removal. Do not recommend for anyone sensitive to hormones as this knocks you about quite a bit. Only plus is it can be removed easily when you decide it is not for you."

"My first experience with the Nuvaring 2 years ago was rather positive. It was easy to insert, prevented pregnancy, and I didn't experience any side effects. Still, I decided to go back on the pill after three months but as I started suffering from IBS lately, the Nuvaring seemed like a safer alternative. BUT only 3 days after I started using it (5 days ago), I developed a really strong feeling of vaginal discomfort, symptoms of a UTI (frequent urination and burn), and an itch so extreme that it would wake me up at night. Besides that, I started sweating a lot and I could feel my vagina trying to get rid of it. When I removed it today, the inside of my vagina was really swollen and the ring was full of discharge. Obviously, these symptoms aren't universal, but I recommend to weigh the cost and effect in advance, and also immediately remove it if you experience similar symptoms."

"First and for most, before I went on the Nuvaring I was a complete skeptic. I did almost 2 months of research and read almost every review on Drugs.com. My current boyfriend (who is a Pharmacists) suggested and educated me on this BC. I have not been on BC for almost 3 years prior to starting Nuvaring. I've tired everything, from Depo, every pill formed BC and nothing has worked for me. Nuvaring is by far the only thing that's worked, from the first 3 months when your body starts adjusting everything was fine! No weight gain (loss 10lb), no depression, increase sex drive. There is definitely more Pros than Cons. Highly suggested!! Good for those who have a hard time remembering to take daily pills."

"I've been on the Nuvaring for 7 years. I got it when I was 18 because I didn't want to take a pill everyday and I was scared the shot would make me gain weight. I love my nuvaring besides the fact that it has killed my sex drive. Thats the only downside I've experienced. So if that doesn't bother you then I highly suggest it. It cleared up my face of acne, I didn't gain any weight, it shortened my period to be about 3 days long and is very light, no extra moodiness or anxiety. The perk of it is you can skip a month in between your periods. I put it in for 3 weeks, take it out and have a period. Then the next month I take it out and put a new one in at the same time on the 4th week. I hope this helps anyone considering it."

"10+ years on it. Can't feel it. Never falls out. Husband notices it but is used to it. Leave it in for vacation so I don't get a period (in on 1st, out on 25th for period on 27th is my normal routine but if I want to skip, I take out and replace on the 1st). Removed it to try and conceive and got pregnant the following month. I feel bad for the women that had poor experiences. I love nuvaring."

"At first I had the Paragard for four months and it was excruciatingly painful. Come to find out, I have Endometriosis and that's why I was in so much pain. My doctor prescribed me Nuvaring as treatment for my Endometriosis and as birth control. So far, I love it. I keep it in continually, so I don't get periods. The only downside is it makes me very nauseous when I first put a new one in. Other than that, I love that I don't have to remember to take it everyday and my sex drive hasn't changed a bit."

"I love love love NuvaRing! I have been on hormone based birth control for 6 years now. I have been on NuvaRing for 1 year. So far, this is the best one I've used and I have tried several. With OTHER pills, I have had weight gain (not in my breasts unfortunately), acne, moodiness, lack of sex drive, spotting, periods that lasted forever etc. With the NuvaRing, nothing. My skin is clearer than it has ever been (not perfect but I'll take what I can get), I haven't gained any more weight, I only worry about it once a month. I think it's perfect. The thing people have to remember is, everyone's going to be different. It's not the product, it's the person. Ortho Tricyclen Lo didn't work for me. Neither did Lo Ovral. And they're rather popular."

"Used the ring for 6 months. I gained 20 pounds. I went from 120 to 140. Its not very easy for me to gain weight. Had a lot of discharge that made it extremely uncomfortable. I never get yeast infections and got one on the ring. And my sex drive went way down on the ring. I am switching back to the pill cause I've never had any problems with the pill only minor and I've used the pill for 3 years."

"I loved the Nuva Ring! I switch to it after being on Yasmin & seeing all of the scary commercials about it (which I liked too, but I'm a hypochondriac). I liked the fact that I just put it in & didn't have to worry about it for 3 weeks & I always started my period on the same day which was very helpful! I think I gained about 10 lbs while taking it, but I don't think that was due to the birth control, my husband also never noticed it during sex, added bonus;) I wish I could take it while breastfeeding, but my doctor doesn't recommend it. Overall, I loved it!"

"I've been on NR for 2 and a half months and I don't know how much longer I can tolerate its side effects, from the mood swings to feeling angry all the time, low to no libido at all and feeling distant from my partner and I've been bleeding the entire time I've had it in. I'm hoping maybe in another month or two my body will adjust to the hormones but we'll see if i even make it that far."

"I was on nuvaring for about 3 years & I loved it! No pills to worry about, easy in easy out, comfortable. But I recently got out of a serious relationship & wanted to see what I would feel like without BC. I feel AMAZING. Nuvaring GREATLY reduced my sexdrive (it feels so amazing to know it was this medication & not me). It also gave me intense PMS mood swings (which I also thought was me). Essentially what this birth control (& most) do, is release such high levels of hormones, as to trick your body into thinking you're already pregnant. So essentially taking nuvaring was like being a raging dried up bitch for 3 years. I would try something else.. Gave a 5 b/c it was very effective in preventing pregnancy."

"I have been on birth control since I was 16. Initially on it to control my headaches, now to prevent a baby. I was on Yaz, Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo, Loestrin. By far I liked the Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo however I kept getting massive ovarian cysts because I was ovulating as if I wasn't on birth control. Dr switched me to Loestrin, however I lost my sex drive completely. So I got switched to Nuvaring. I have been on it now for 4 months. The only side effect I have gotten is a little extra discharge. My sex drive is back, my yeast infections are gone, the little blackheads I had are almost all gone as well. I haven't noticed weight gain or loss. I was leary to try the ring, but now that I am on it, I love it. My insurance even covers it 100%."

"The Nuvaring has worked for me. I have never tried any other form of birth control, and I started using it 6 years ago help with a very irregular, long, and heavy period. It also helped clear up my skin then, and when I went off birth control my periods did get heavier, and sometimes I had debilitating cramps, plus I suffered from bad adult acne that nothing would fix. Within 3 months of going back on the Nuvaring my acne cleared right up, and immediately my periods got shorter, lighter, and were less painful. I didn't note any significant mood changes, or changes in sex drive (but mine has never been especially high). I have experienced significant vaginal discharge, but it is normal aside from increased quantity. It is very convenient"

"I was prescribed the NuvaRing after talking with my doctor about different options. It was pretty easy to insert and I feel that was the only good thing about this birth control. You could feel the ring during sex and even caused bleeding afterwards ( which had never happened before on any kind of pill). Then came the emotional part. On day 5 of having the NuvaRing in, I became so emotional I cried for entire day about nothing and had no interest in eating or wanting to get out of bed. I took the ring out the following morning and within 30 minutes I felt so much better. I am normally a very outgoing and happy person, but this birth control really affected my emotions. While everyone is different and many probably will have better luck with the birth control than I did, I am just sharing my experience. I only used this birth control for 5 days, so maybe I would have had better success if I had tried it a bit longer, but I just couldn’t take the emotions it made me have."

"I was on hormonal pills that caused anxiety and OCD tendencies. My now husband was a saint through that. After becoming pregnant due to a faulty IUD (arm did not fully deploy and luckily I did not need a surgery), NuvaRing was recommended. I almost made it through my 2nd ring. Over the last few weeks I noticed an increase in anxiety, being quick to anger, and intense depression. After having days of panic attacks (exacerbated by reviews and thinking I had blood clots) and feelings of complete misery, I decided I needed to remove it. It’s been over 12 hours and overall I feel better, just exhausted. Everyone reacts to medications differently and maybe I was more sensitive to it but I thought it was important to share my experience because I wonder how many people feel that way and think it’s them when it’s not. Even this time, it took my husband to point out there was something altering my system and snap me out of it because I was convinced my feelings were all my fault."

"I've used NuvaRing for almost 7, Yes 7 years now and I absolutely love it. I can take it out during intercourse If it bothers my husband, as long as I put it back in up to an hour later. Even during the first couple months it was comfortable and no side effects. (P.S. You can skip your period if you have a "special weekend" planned, so when you take your ring out after 3 weeks you just immediately put in another new one instead of waiting for your period to come. Awesome!)"

"I tried Nuvaring for one week while I was on my period. Idk if it was my adderall or a combination of pms, adderall, and nuvaring hormones but I was ready to fight just about everyone! So angry!! Also extra emotional! The ring kept falling down to the base of my vagina which was uncomfortable but the worst part was THE ITCH and PAINFUL PEEING! And I just got tested for STD's so I know it couldn't be anything else. The ITCH was so bad that I had to take it out! BC sucks!!!!!"

"I used the ring for 4 years is total. It is funny how you forget all the side effects when you are used to it. I didn't get pregnant so thats good but I had a LOT of small sides effects that I had to live with. My vaginal discharge were a lot, I had migraine, I was always bloated, and I had a lot of problems with my digestion. It's been 8 months that I stop taking Nuvaring and I fell much better. In a month I could see the difference it was insane. I do not recommend it if you don't want side effects."

"I thought at first that this medication would be the holy grail... no problems the first week and the second week a few changes, some anxiety and increased discharge. The third week is when it all drastically changed for me. I started going from being ruthless and uncaring to crying and being overly emotional the next. I was getting horrible migraines and did not feel like eating. I got severely depressed and anxious VERY quickly over the smallest things. I was numb, almost like how an antidepressant would make you feel. I have since taken it out but it says it can take up to 2 menstrual cycles to get the hormones cleansed from your system... so be cautious about if you are experiencing signs and symptoms now that they do not just go away when you take it out. It was very scary and upsetting... I would NOT recommend."

"Loved this method of birth control at first. Used it for about 9 months took it out for two weeks and slowly fell into a depression (never been depressed in life). I have put it back in and hopefully will go back to normal until I can find a way to slowly remove the hormones from my body with out going cold turkey. It was great not having to remember to take a pill everyday but the side effects just aren't worth it to me. "

"I started Nuvaring 3 weeks and 2 days ago. I loved it because I didn't have to remember to take a pill. That was the extent of my happiness. Within 1 week i started to get complaints about my attitude and people were genuinely concerned about what was wrong with me. Within 2 weeks I had severe anxiety and depression with suicidal thoughts. I know people say it takes time to get used to, but I would've been dead by then. Prior to the 3 week mark, I had stabbing pain near/in my heart. That occurred for 2 days, on the second day I said goodbye to my Nuvaring. I did research 2 days after I removed it and found out that it isn't recommended if you have ever had depression, and I had PPD very badly (psych ward for 3 days, yeah, bad)."

"Lord .....where do I start. I’ll preface by saying this my 2nd month of being on the Nuvaring. The anxiety; the insomnia; the stomach bloating and added love handles. The damn constipation and gas— OMG!!!! Emotions through the roof; paranoia and the CRAMPING and leg pain. WHAT IN THE WORLD????"

"I was on the NuvaRing for 6 years or so, and I LOVED it while I was on it. I didn't have issues with feeling it, or it coming out during sex. Sometimes if I was having sex we'd take it out just cause it can get uncomfortable being (essentially pounded) in the same place. I went off of it about 4 months ago. I only went off it because the hormones started to mess with me. My libido dropped, I couldn't get wet, and freaked out emotionally before my period every month. I wish the hormones didn't affect my body like that, cause I really liked this birth control."

"After reading all of these reviews I feel like I was crazy for staying on the nuva ring for so long (3 years), but for at least the past year I have been wondering why I’m not myself. I started the Nuvaring when I was 18/19 and have gained an extra 15 pounds that I can’t seem to loose no matter how much I eat/exercise. I also have had LOTS of mood swings and went through a depression last year, I thought it was my schooling since I am an engineering major but now I’m not so sure. And the worst was that I lost my sex drive, my boyfriend and I have been together for at least 2 years before I started the Nuva ring but for the past year he always wants to and I just am not in the mood. I feel like these changes started slow but became more clear after the years went by. It wasn’t all bad though, I love it’s convenience and easy to use but for what it did to my mental health and weight is frustrating. Thanks girls for all your input, I thought I was going crazy!"

"Best birth control I've tried. Super comfortable and easy to use. I've had zero side effects. No weight gain, and I have clear skin! No issues with sex either. I've been on it for 2 years and there's been no changes in my sex drive. Give it a try! It changed my life for the better. Don't let the bad reviews scare you!"
