Bentyl (dicyclomine) "After the donation of a kidney, I have been plagued with a wide variety of non-specified gastrointestinal issues. The most pressing was a severe problem with vomiting and retching, once I started I couldn't stop. My abdominal pain was off the charts, and the only thing that would work at that point was a pain shot to quiet things down. Once I started taking the Bentyl, it's really changed my life for the better."

Bentyl (dicyclomine) "Crohns Disease 10 years - just started it as needed recently. Has saved me several from having to go to the ER. Slows my bowels so I don't have loose stools while traveling. Works quickly. Little to no side effects - 10mg"

"I am now 35 and suffered from bowel problems since I was 13 that slowly intensified as I got older. I had tests after tests and was not allergic to anything and they could not find out what was wrong. The cramping would become so intense I thought I would pass out and cause bleeding by the time it stopped. Since they couldn't find anything wrong or out of the ordinary, the Dr. proclaimed that I had Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Eventually I told him there has to be an option to stop the contractions in my intestine. He then prescribed this medicine to me. First at 10mg dosages. It helped but not entirely and ran out fast. Then he gave me 20mg. That did the trick! Only need to take as needed. Only side effect is being a little tired and rather be that than passed out."

Bentyl (dicyclomine) "I was prescribed Bentyl for vomiting and having diarrhea. I had been having severe cramping and was having sporadic severe cramping during this bout of illness. I have learned more about this medication reading the comments here that I learned reading the "literature" on it (thank you all). Based on what I have learned, this medication may be something I will want to continue in an as needed basis. It helps urgency as well as constipation (I have MS,so these are very important) gas, and even my menstrual cramping! Not a cure, but a great help!"

Bentyl (dicyclomine) "I am a male, 66 years old. Suffering from IBS/SIBO for 20 plus years. Check out SIBO on google. Side effects for this medicine give me extreme headaches. I have started using my old standby Peppermint Plus with no LSD affects. I also take peppermint tea with ginger powder."

"I was in the ER twice in the same 24 hour period with gastroenteritis caused by some viral thing. I was prescribed this dicyclomine upon discharge of my second stay and it works very well for the cramps but the there were side effects that are not worth it to me I’ve had the feeling confused, fogginess, blurred vision, hallucinations. The hallucinations are super trippy, I’m talking to people who aren’t even there… That’s not cool"

"I have battled my stomach problems since I was a child. Then, one day my doctor prescribed me Bentyl, and I can really say when I have episodes this medication is definitely my lifesaver. My stomach problems first started out as Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and now I was recently diagnosed with diverticulitis, and the cramps and attacks that come with that disease are at least 10 times more intense than just IBS. This medication truly helps out a lot. There are times that I have to take two 20 mg tablets at a time. This medicine gets my recommendation 100%."

"I was having trouble with bad cramps and loose stools daily for two months, going to the doctors weekly with no answers. Finally I went to a gi doctor who prescribed dicyclomine. This medicine has worked wonders. Its been two days and I no longer have to be worried about having loose stools every time I eat. I do monitor what I eat no spicy foods or soda and very little dairy. I'm taking 10mg 3 times daily. No side effects as of yet. I am glad it's working so well for me."

"Well I have taken many hard drugs in my day! You name it I probably did it! I am not bragging believe me! When you finally grow up, Your stories of drug use and parties turn to shame! And then you wonder how you could have ever been that stupid! But I need to add my history of drug use to make my point here. I have used heroin and many other varieties of opiates. And then finally I used methadone to get off the opiate drugs, Anyway, I was prescribed Dicyclomine 20mg for IBS. And I can honestly say Dicyclomine knocks me on my behind! And it feels very similar to opiates, (At'least for me anyway), (Other people and events and circumstances may vary!) It has helped very well with my IBS. So please people! Be careful if you take this drug."

"I had horrible stomach pain before during and after bowel movements for 3 years before I saw a GI doctor and was diagnosed with colitis (not ulcerative). The GI doc prescribed me these after she saw spasms during my colonoscopy. They definitely help take the edge off. I use them a lot to nip the problems in the bud, so to speak. Once in a while though my symptoms are too severe for this medicine to work. But 90% of the time, this saves me a lot of discomfort."

"I have had surgeries that led to a few different infections in my bowel which has led to severe 10 out of 10 pain when passing bowel motion. The theory is scar tissue has caused this condition, but after all the tests there is no way to verify, because it is in the small intestine. Years of pain, three trips to ER with horrific pain, and a decade later a doctor put me on this. This medicine has been a miracle, never had any pain since, I went from suicidal to being able to function and even go on vacation. However, there has been side effects. I have had blurred vision, I am generally lethargic at all times, and nausea. All said and done, the side effects are nothing compared to the other pain, but they are bad at times."

Bentyl (dicyclomine) "IBS in south america. The little pink pill. Sertal Compuesto (Propinox clorhidrato, Clonixinato de lisina) I'm 65 and a veteran. I've had this condition for 20 years at least. When I visited Ecuador a few years ago I had an attack that put me on the floor (again). It wasn't food or the water! I'm a big boy and I know the difference. I had to return to the apartment and cry and roll around like a baby. The woman I was with went to the pharmacy and got a syringe and some Sertal Compuesto. 10 mins after the injection the IBS was gone. No pain. I stopped crying due to the pain and began crying because I was so happy. It also comes in a pink pill that takes about 30 mins to work. I had attacks every 6 months. I changed the diet lost weight etc. Nothing worked. Sertal Compuesto works. The FDA won't allow it into the USA for sales. Must be purchased elsewhere. I now live in Ecuador. I keep both pills and injection on hand."

"ER prescribed 20 mg Dicyclomine as needed for pain from IBS. I take as needed. It does help with cramping but does not do a thing for diarrhea. It gives me a dry mouth and dehydration so I have to drink more and in turn causes increase frequency of diarrhea. I would rather deal with cramping than diarrhea. It's a good drug for cramping but ineffective for diarrhea (at least that is my experience with the drug)."

"I just finished my second stretch taking dicyclomine for IBS. Stopped for a while. First time after a few months I found myself getting up at night only to wake up and I'm standing in my room sometimes ready to fall. I've fallen twice but caught myself so I didn't hit the ground hard, once my desk stopped me and the other (in my second stretch on the med) I fell backwards into the stand up fan in my room which woke me in time to stop myself from hitting the dresser. After stopping the meds both time, the sleep standing/falling stopped. I remember taking a drug for IBS back in the late 80's and it worked great. This one not so great!"

Bentyl (dicyclomine) "I have had stomach issues since I was a kid. I was recently prescribed Bentyl up to 4 times a day. It works great, calms my stomach and digestive system down like nothing else I have tried over the counter in the stores has. It can make me a little fuzzy headed or tired on occasion but it doesn't happen every time. I will take that small side effect over my stomach problems any day. I highly recommend it."

"This medication dicyclomine has CHANGED my life that I had with IBS. I have been in SEVERE pain from intestinal spasms for nearly nine years. They didn't realize that was where my pain was originating until this week. They started me on this medication and for the first time in nearly a decade I am almost pain free. Its a life saver and has changed my world. The first time I took it I did have severe diarrhea. However, this subsided quickly and hasn't been an issue sense. The only "side effect" is some mild brain-fog. But its worth being pain free 100%"

Bentyl (dicyclomine) "This worked like magic on my horrible, knife-like abdominal cramps and bloating. Within 30 minutes, my tummy felt great! But... Bentyl leaves me unable to work and barely functional. When I would take it, it would make me so confused I couldn't remember where I was, why I was there, or what I had just been doing. I would stop talking to someone mid-sentence and not remember what we were talking about or how I got there. I often couldn't answer simple questions. I also became very dizzy. I would only take it again if the IBS symptoms occurred at home and at bedtime. Such a shame. Nothing took away my pain like Bentyl did."

Bentyl (dicyclomine) "I was diagnosed with microcolitis after a colonoscopy. Up until the colonoscopy I had taken loperamide for the daily early morning diarrhea, which worked ok. After colonoscopy I developed severe abdominal pain - Left lower quadrant (LLQ) pain, especially during aerobic exercise. GI doc prescribed dicyclomine (generic of Bentyl) 20 mg 3X day--worked wonders for pain! But when I tried going without loperamide, diarrhea came back. So now I take both and things are relatively under control, although not "normal.""

"This medicine dicyclomine really doesn’t do much for me. I have IBS and get extreme bloating and gas and bad stomach cramping, dealing with it right now. It’s so uncomfortable I can’t sleep. I take dicylomine to help with the uncomfortableness and bloating/cramping.... and it hasn’t done anything to help. It makes you drowsy which is great... IF you can fall asleep while you’re extremely uncomfortable."

"I suffered for many years with spasming gut: rolling waves of pain so severe I would be drenched in sweat, no control of explosive diarrhea. I would be on the verge of passing out and have to lay on the bathroom stall floor in my own diarrhea. Bentyl has saved me. I was on a high dose at first, but slowly tapered off. Now I take it as soon as I feel a bout coming on. I carry it with me and it has saved me much public embarrassment. It is a blessing."

Bentyl (dicyclomine) "Bentyl has made a world of a difference to me. I no longer have quick spasms where I have to run to the bathroom. I can finally live my life without worrying if I will be able to make it to the bathroom or not. Of course, not all of my symptoms are completely gone but I don't think that is possible with IBS."

Bentyl (dicyclomine) "I take 20 mgs of this medication 4 times a day for IBS and gastroparesis because it helps with pyloric spams that I get with it. My GI doctor also says that I can take it up to 6 times a day on days when the cramping is really bad from the spasms. It works well. I get cramping some, but not nearly like I used to. I haven't had any side effects with it. It's a huge benefit that it helps with both diseases. It also doesn't slow my stomach with the gastroparesis (paralyzed stomach) down as much as most similar medications do, so it was the best choice for me."

"I had severe pain in my upper stomach right side by my ribs accompanied by constipation. Was told had fatty liver disease. Ordered to get x-ray MRI ctscan colonoscopy. All was fine. Pain so extreme couldn't function. After several trips to the ER 1 doc LISTENED AND BELIEVED me. She prescribed me Bentyl and gave me a shot in my bum. After 15 minutes NO PAIN!!! I hope this continues but as of now it's a lifesaver!!!!"

"Bentyl is a lifesaver. As soon as I have a IBS spell coming on I take my Bentyl and within 15 to 20 minutes I can feel the relief from my symptoms. Its great. I don't like taking pills everyday unless needed and this pill does the trick. I have been using Bentyl for about 7 years now and have had no side effects from it."

"I took 10 mg of Bentyl, even though my doc said to take 20mg. Yes, it took care of the abdominal cramps, but I got a bad headache, dry mouth and eyes, & dizziness. I also got pain in my thigh and tingling in the same leg where I have nerve issues because of a herniated disc. This also caused neck pain where I have nerve issues as I took only 5 mg 20 hrs later when I could feel the cramping coming back. The side effects were there, but to a lesser degree. The most disturbing side effect was my heart rate dropped to 45; it's usually in the low 60's, and blood pressure went up. Not sure I can continue on this medication, perhaps only when I feel cramping coming on and no more than 5 mg."
