Bentyl (dicyclomine) "I've dealt with severe irritable bowel syndrome problems since about 14, and the older I got, the worse it got. Nothing really helped until Bentyl. The only medicine that has ever helped me this far. It works within half an hour. The one downside is I can only take it outside of work because I feel "high" within ten minutes, every time."

Bentyl (dicyclomine) "Great at first until you have to take as therapy for years. I have Headaches, confusion, memory loss, Mania, loss of sleep, I already have Anxiety disorders, This stuff can facilitate Glaucoma, Alzheimers. Blurrs vision from the start! Terrible no integrated health care so docs can learn to see the whole patient and avoid severe disruption of life. I'd rather nurse the severe trouble of advanced diverticular disease, IBS, Fructose malabsorbtion, Hiatus hernia type2, GERD, LPRD. I would rather not be blind and loose what is left of my mind. Terrible medication in the long run. Patients should be educated, better monitored for complications for all medical issues."

Bentyl (dicyclomine) "Years I have had IBS. I hate it. So embarrassing. Bently helped so much. No more cramps. No more pain. No more running to the bathroom or missing time at work. The dry mouth is terrible but it's better than almost pooping my pants so I will put up with it."

Bentyl (dicyclomine) "I have a stomach bug (Gastroenteritis) that has lasted 3 days so far. I was prescribed bentyl and zofran on day 2. I do not take pills well, I'm always worried about side effects. I decided to take one after being prescribed Bentyl anyways. I am a 28 yr old female weighing about 175. Bentyl made me a bit dizzy for about 2 hours but not too bad. Make sure you take it with a full glass of water and lay down. Day 3 I took another pill, thinking I'll be fine just a little dizziness. I was wrong. I did wait too long between doses, I'm not sure if that's what caused bad side effects. (18 hours in between) or because I can't handle muscle relaxers. Either way, exactly 30 minutes after taking Bentyl this time, I was slowly becoming "high" but not in a fun way. I sat down had some soup and as soon as I stood up to walk I felt really low to the ground like gravity was pulling on me pretty hard. I was very nervous from this point onward until it wore off by the 2nd hour."

Bentyl (dicyclomine) "Diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome, was going to the bathroom 10x times a day. Was prescribed this two weeks ago. Take 3x times a day. So far pill works great down to 2x times a day and my stomach looks smaller since I was always bloated. Only side effect I've noticed is it makes me tired during the day."

"I have migraine, dysautonomia, anxiety, and IBS. I spend many hours researching drugs that are prescribed to me before taking them, and everything about Bentyl told me that it would be a dreadful mistake to take it. I was wrong. Despite dicyclomine being an anticholinergic drug and the fact that I have autonomic dysfunction (including tachycardia), I have have experienced no anticholinergic side effects. I do not understand how this is even possible given my conditions, but Bentyl takes me from severe, debilitating pain to almost total relief without any anxiety, tachycardia, or sedation. I have turned the internet inside out to try to find out why this is the case, but have found no explanation. It continues to work wonders for my IBS."

"Absolute miracle drug....helps with severe IBS diarrhea, and severe stomach cramp pain related to general anxiety disorder. I was very skeptical at first when the doc prescribed, was in tears when it worked the first night. Since then it has not failed me...no side effects. Again if you suffer from severe IBS this medicine works!"

Bentyl (dicyclomine) "I was given this drug awhile ago as a doctor felt that I was experiencing IBS along with my GERD. I never used it cause I don't really like trying new drugs. Well about a week ago I either came down with some sort of bug with horrible stomach/intestinal cramps or a bad bout of IBS. I did not have diarrhea or vomiting but just bad cramps. I was desperate and couldn't even rest so I tried one of the 10 mg pills. I have to say within 45 minutes I felt SO much better and seems peak was about 2 hrs in. Was able to sleep as cramping and pain were gone! It does make you drowsy especially when first using it. That faded on day 3 but I was able to sleep anyway if I wanted because I was finally comfortable. TRY IT! And it's great because you can just use it as needed. I never needed more than 1 dose a day to keep things at bay but am able to take it 4 times a day."

Bentyl (dicyclomine) "I have dealt with severe flare ups from Irritable Bowel Syndrome for almost 3 years and the combination of Bentyl, Donnatal and when very bad, Lomotil, work together like a charm. Donnatal is my go-to medicine, but Bentyl does what it is suppose to do which is to help with the cramping and pain associated with flare ups. ZERO side effects at 40-60mg a day. Good medicine."

Please take this medicine only if you make yourself aware of the side effects, especially any major change in physical condition. I also have GERD, which I found out is contraindicated."

Bentyl (dicyclomine) "Where has this stuff been? I have been suffering with irritable bowel disease since the beginning of June and was prescribed Bentyl. The first few days were four 10 mg pills a day and that sent me into orbit, but the spasms lessened. Then I was to go down to two a day and I managed to be awake here and there. Now I am on a daily dosage of one a day. The side effects are sleepiness and a little cognitive impairment, but the cramping has decreased by 97%. For me, this has been a total blessing. As I feel better I am thinking of switching to taking the one pill at night instead of the morning. But for now, I am changing nothing. I eat a very bland diet, but hey, it is being processed normally."

Bentyl (dicyclomine) "I've been dealing with Irritable Bowel Syndrome for about 7 or 8 years now, with the severity increasing greatly about three years ago. I lost my job after a year because I missed so many days due to flare-ups where I couldn't move. My flare-ups got so bad that I was vomiting blood from the pain, and on more than one occasion, had to go to the ER for morphine simply to take the edge off the pain after hours of throwing up blood. Bentyl is the only medicine to this day to help in any way, shape, or form. I started out taking one pill during flare-ups which would help in about 15 minutes. Now, depending on the severity of my flare up, I take two to three pills & it takes about 30-45 minutes to become effective. "

Bentyl (dicyclomine) "Once or twice a year I have a severe intestinal attack. I've decided I can't eat green vegetables if they aren't cooked thoroughly, and chlorophyl seems to be the problem. The pain is so intense, I have to take pain medication and lay down. It takes my system at least a week to fully recover. After two weeks of a recent bout, I was prescribed Bentyl. It works! But I swear my IQ drops 30 points. That's the trade off. Bently relaxes the stomach and the brain!"

Bentyl (dicyclomine) "When I started on Bentyl it seemed to help some, but I have been on it far too long. It has given me bad side effects. Diarrhea all the time, have to wear diapers especially when I go any where, it is so embarrassing. I fall and stagger around, It has affected my vision. I stopped the med. after I got a letter from my insurance about the side effects for people over 65 and I am 71. I have taken this medicine for 5 or 6 years and when I found out the side effects especially with taking other medicine I stopped it yesterday, I pray that it will help me . Desperate from NC."

Bentyl (dicyclomine) "I asked my Dr. about Bentyl and she gave me a script for it. I've had chronic pain for almost 3 years, lots of testing, but no real diagnosis. Took 2 (10mg) 3x a day, didn't help, added 2 more at the end of the day and feel relief. Anyone else out there have my weird symptom of colon, intestinal pain right after a bowel movement, and lasting all day? I got fired 2.5 years ago because I was always out sick. I am very happy this medicine seems to be working. Anyone else have anything that works on intestinal pain?"

Bentyl (dicyclomine) "Started with a low dose at 10 mg to avoid drowsiness. This was the only option for me after fighting IBS for over 15 years. Works on your first day right away. The only side effect is a little blury vision. I take one dose right before dinner time. The pill regulates the bowel movements like clock work. This pill also helped me with my sleep issues."

Bentyl (dicyclomine) "I take Bentyl for irritable bowel syndrome flare ups and it does work for me. I would suggest taking it at night before bed or make sure your home because it can cause drowsiness and dizziness and dry mouth. This is an anti spasmodic. Also known as a muscle relaxer. So be careful when taking this. It really does work wonders."

Bentyl (dicyclomine) "Taking for severe ulcer pain. I was prescribed Bentyl from the Emergency Room recently when I was having uncontrollable pain due to ulcers. It felt like I was being impaled through my stomach and the pain went to my ribs and back. I needed IV fluids, morphine, and a proton pump inhibitor before I felt any relief. The doctor sent me home with Omeprazole and Bentyl. Before having the Bentyl, my ulcer pain would wake me up from a deep sleep every night but now I'm sleeping thru the night. It does make me very drowsy, so I typically don't take it in the morning. I take it in the afternoon and at night. It's been a life saver, even though it's not usually prescribed for ulcers it's helped me greatly."

Bentyl (dicyclomine) "Meds: Subutex 8mg SL 2x daily (recovering addict), Bentyl 20mg oral as-needed up to 4x daily. I have irritable bowel syndrome flare-ups randomly, depending on stress level, caffeine/nicotine/stimulant intake, etc. The first few months, one 20mg Bentyl stopped a flare DEAD IN IT'S TRACKS. Now it doesn't and I have to double-dose, because when I flare, the pain is so severe that I begin vomiting, sweating, shaking, and cannot function at work. The double dose is effective, but causes blurred vision, cognitive impairment, and a general feeling of being "disconnected" or "high", minus any kind of euphoria. Going to discuss this with my PCP."

"For my IBS-C, dicyclomine has been a life saver by mitigating the abdominal muscle cramps I get. I have been on the medication for about 4 years with no significant side effects. I typically take one 10mg with meals (3x per day). Over the years, I have tried stopping this medication a few times. But every time I discontinue dicyclomine, I developed escalating and intense abdominal cramping within 12 hours. Then I restart dicyclomine and the cramps go away. I do not see much effect on my stool composition from dicyclomine like some of the others here, but it has definitely helped me with cramping and quality of life."

"I have been dealing with stomach issues for 7 years. Doctors thought it was my gallbladder, so it was removed and the symptoms intensified. I was finally diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome and my doctor prescribed me dicyclomine. After 2 days, my symptoms are GONE!! I haven't had a single episode of diarrhea, and before I had it 4-6 times a day, sometimes more. Bloating, cramping, nausea, all gone. I haven't changed my diet in those two days at all and it is doing its job wonderfully!"
