For High Blood Pressure "I started off on lowest dose of candesartan for high blood pressure, then I was increased to current 32mg over 12 months. Luckily I had no side effects, but no effect on BP at all! I started off at 160+/90+ hr 70+/- and I am still at that now. I'm 56 years old, not overweight eat healthily, now on clopidogrel as well and low dose omeprazole (16 years) ,feel like I'm starting to rattle!!"

For High Blood Pressure "At my request following online research I asked my GP to change me from Losartan to Candesartan as I was not getting satisfactory BP control. In less than a week my BP has gone from 160/89 down to 135/80 on 12mgs. I feel fantastic and have no obvious side effects. I wish I'd made the change sooner."

For High Blood Pressure "Have been on 16mg of candesartan for one week, now gone down to 8mg, and considering stopping. My blood pressure was always borderline, but I was put on this drug anyway. I have floaters in my eyes if my potassium goes too high or I don't drink enough. I have muscle aches and clicking joints when I move them. I feel tired and lethargic most of the day, I have also gained anxiety which I've never had before. Not a great medication for me."

For Migraine Prevention "I'm in the UK and was prescribed Candesartan for migraine prorphilaxys and mild hypertension ~10 months ago and it's been a complete success. Was instructed to titrate dose from 8 mg up to 32mg, but stopped at 16mg as 32mg was making me drowsy. Migraines have reduced from > 1 per week to 1 every 2 - 3 months, which is a huge benefit."

For High Blood Pressure "Took two Candesartan 8mg. 12 hours after the second dose, I started to feel something in my throat. The beginning of an allergic reaction. I had a quite severe throat swelling. It only lasted 12 hours. Be careful when you start using this drug"

For High Blood Pressure "I was put on Candesartan from the start of this year. After that I started having constant symptoms of respiratory infections, like the symptoms when you are developing a cold/flu. Turns out it's one of the possible side effects of this drug. Other symptoms have been brain fog. Going to switch back to amlodipine, which I was taking before this."

For High Blood Pressure "Started at 4mg, then increased to 8 mg for high blood pressure; it is not controlling my BP in the least, seems to be like water. However I have to blow my nose a lot, have palpitations, sore swollen legs, great fatigue and huge anxiety. I am stopping this useless medication."

For High Blood Pressure "I took Candesartan for high blood pressure for 6 months. I noticed extreme hair loss and developed a severe rash on both legs. As soon as I stopped the medication all side effects went away. DID NOT WORK FOR ME!"

For Migraine Prevention "I had a horrible experience on candesartan. I tapered up from 4 mg to 16 mg over a period of 6 weeks. Before 16 mg, there was no effect on my migraines, which I usually get around 6 times/month. The day I started taking 16 mg, however, the candesartan triggered daily migraines, which has never happened to me before in the 15 years since I started getting migraines (I'm now 44). It took me 4 days to realize the candesartan was triggering the migraines, at which point I stopped cold turkey. The daily migraines then continued for 6 more days until I started taking Amitriptyline 10 mg. As well as daily migraines, I also experienced severe anxiety, panic attacks, depression, and loss of appetite once I stopped the candesartan."

For Migraine Prevention "Starting this medication just over a year ago has been a complete game-changer for me. Have suffered for 40 years and had escalated to 15+ migraines per month. My neurologist started me on this after exhausting many options and what she considered was the overuse of a tryptan which was the only thing that kept me functioning but potentially also caused rebound. After titrating up to 16mgs my migraines have reduced to 2-3 per month. To have more pain-free days than not is just amazing and feel as though I have my life back. I feel slightly light-headed at times but that’s all and doesn’t last long. Wish I had been given this years ago as this has for sure been life-changing. I’m in the UK and blessed that I receive this medication free on our NHS."

For Migraine Prevention "I’ve been taking Candesartan for about 6 months now. I have tried many other migraine preventatives over the years but nothing has lasted. This medication has decreased my daily migraines to just a few a month . It hasn’t had any impact on my menstrual migraines though. I started on 4mg and now on 8mg . Only side effects I can complain about is dizziness if I stand up too fast or over exert myself . I have also found it increases the effects of any pain killers I take, so I try to take any pain meds a few hours before taking the Candesartan which seems to help. I finally have my life back !"

For Migraine Prevention "My neurologist recommended candesartan for my migraines. I was already on Nortriptyline and getting good results. The idea was that I could stop my high blood pressure medication and use a single drug to manage both. Candesartan has worked extremely well. It has reduced my migraines from 1-2 per week to 1-2 per month. I found it works better than Nortriptyline for me. Plus is also helps to control my high blood pressure. The only problem I have are rebound headaches if I miss more than 1 dose. It takes only 2 days before I'm hit with severe migraines if I stop."

For Migraine Prevention "I started Candestartan 2 weeks ago for migraine prevention. It had helped but has caused severe bruising and leg pain, possibly blood clots. I am stopping the 8mg candesartan immediately under medical advice. Withdrawal symptoms are awful. Almost as bad as migraine."

For High Blood Pressure "I was prescribed this drug to control my high blood pressure of 165/110. I tried other drugs but suffered bad side effects. I'm on the combo Atacand of 16/12.5 and 4mg. My blood pressure is under 140/90 and I have only occasional shortness of breath when exercising. As a great side effect is my ability to hold an erection stronger and longer - something that was missing before."

For Migraine Prevention "I took Candesartan to prevent chronic migraines. Instead, it started triggering them on a daily basis. Once I realized the medication was the culprit, I stopped taking it. My neuro prescribed me 10 mg amitriptyline, which stopped the daily migraines, but like another reviewer wrote, it took approximately two weeks for me to stop experiencing severe anxiety and panic caused by the Candesartan. It was a horrible drug for me."

For High Blood Pressure "I have high blood pressure(BP), about 140/100 and after several studies the doctor assigned me Xiletil (Candesartan Cilexetil). After 1 week, my BP dropped to 130/80 and 1 month after to 120/80. I truly recommmend this product. So far it hasn't caused any side effects on me."

For Migraine Prevention "Candesartan has been a godsend for me. I was diagnosed with chronic migraine and went through about five different preventatives before being prescribed candesartan. I have now been on 16mg daily for about a year and a half now and life feels worth living again. Although I do still get the occasional migraine, they have definitely reduced in frequency and severity. The only side effect I’ve had the whole time is lightheadedness, but I will take that any day over a migraine."

For Migraine Prevention "Taking candesartan to prevent 3-4 migraines/week, possibly exaggerated by spinal issues in the neck. Tapered to 16mg dose in 4 weeks time. Tapering felt like taking a sugar pill. At 16mg I did experience some dizziness, especially with hot weather or hot meals. Now I've settled in at 2 months, and my energy and libido is really low. It does seem to stop the some of my migraine attacks, but these low energy states with mild headache persist almost all every day. Especially in the morning I can hardly stay awake and feel like fainting. I don't think this is the right medicine for me."

For Migraine Prevention "I have taking Cardesartan 4 mg for 2 months for migraine prevention, and I’m also a Diabetic type 2. It really worked well for me. My migraine went away for good. But my blood sugar went up from 5 in the morning to 8-9. I read about and there a component in Cardesartan that increased blood sugar."

For High Blood Pressure "This medication did not work for me. I started experiencing anxiety even though I never had this problem in my life. I also experienced tightness in my chest and had trouble with digestion. It didn’t bring down my blood pressure. I made one trip to the emergency and two trips to my doctor who changed my medication to Amlodipine and all of the negative symptoms were gone. I am back to normal and my blood pressure is now 120/65. I guess every person is different but don’t suffer if one medication doesn’t work for you."

For Migraine Prevention "The first night I was prescribed the medication for chronic migraines I was a little apprehensive as I was started on an 8 mg dose so I cut one in half and thought if I feel ok tomorrow I will go ahead with the full 8 mg , It has honestly changed the way I can operate through the day I have had no migraine or headache from the first 4 mgs I took. I am thinking clearer and not forgetting to do things like I was before. The only other thing I can say is thank god for this medication. I was just that sick of every day head pain which interfered with every single thing I was doing through the day :) All the best to everyone , In Australia the medication is on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) for pensioners ,so I pay $5.90 per month,."

For Migraine Prevention "I am a 59yr old woman. I have had migraines since I was 10 yrs old. I had tried every treatment in NZ including Botox. I also tried Osteopath, massage, getting more sleep, watching what I ate…you name it and I tried it. I work and at one stage over 5 years ago I was so wracked with migraine I thought I would have to stop working. Then I read an article on Candesarten for migraine prevention. I took 16mg daily and for 5 years approx it was an absolute miracle like nothing I had ever experienced. I was now able to plan in advance knowing I would be able to go to work, socialise…just have a life! Now for some reason the headaches have returned and most mornings I am waking with a head full of pain. I am so disappointed! My luck has run out and I will now have to visit the Neurologist to see what my options are."

For High Blood Pressure "I've been on candesartan for 2 years prescribed by a doctor who tried to bring my blood pressure down. Initially, it seemed they worked except when I needed to go into ER with an episode and my BP was incredibly high (White coat syndrome) and they'd tell me to take the maximum dose 32mg. I started to get headaches, which became daily and then turned into migraines, which I have not had since I was a teenager. The doctors would just blame everything on my BP which was white coat syndrome (being scared of hospitals and clinical environments). They put me on NSAIDs (naproxen, ibuprofen etc) which causes HBP. I ended up getting diazapam to try to bring my BP down as it was causing me anxiety. The headaches were scary as I was convinced I had a brain tumor or aneurysm. I booked to see a neurologist who put me on amitryptiline 25gm for the headaches which did work and had a MRI scan which thankfully was all clear. I then stopped using candesartan and my BP was back to normal and I had no headaches."
