Stadol (butorphanol) for Pain "I was given stadol for a burned foot. within 30 minutes I could not control any part of my body. I was limp all over and drooling. The next morning I was having terrible thoughts and felt drugged out. Horrible experience... I never want that drug again.."

Stadol (butorphanol) for Labor Pain "I am literally on this medication right now. I got a dose through my IV and yes at first it was intense and made me very loopy and hot. But now I am just must more relaxed. This is my fourth baby. I'm not quite full term so they used this to see if I could relax enough for contractions to stop. They haven't and I can still feel them but it's much more bearable now. I didn't have this with any of my other deliveries just the epi. Everyone reacts differently to different medicine and doses, so I don't think that basing what is right for you off of other people's experiences is a good idea."

Stadol (butorphanol) for Labor Pain "This drug knocked me out during labor which was great because I was crying and almost hyperventilating during my contractions (I was induced). They woke me up when I was fully dilated to push. Will ask for it again with next baby."

For Pain "I have been on injection butorphanol for 19 1/2 years due to multiple injuries sustained in an assault on active duty. Unable to take any other narcotic I was put on this. Though people are different it is almost impossible to get physically addicted to this medicine. It is very expensive, so after all these years of being in relative freedom of great pain I am now bed ridden due to the VA hospital refusing to pay for it anymore. "

Stadol (butorphanol) for Labor Pain "I was prescribed this when I was having preterm labor contractions. They said it would help me relax and sleep and let my body calm down enough for the contractions to stop on their own. Well... The contractions stopped but not until after I tried to convince my husband I was a stegosaurus. I don't remember much, but I do remember feeling very dizzy and nauseous until I eventually passed out. It's not something I will take again, but it did do its job of pain relief."

Stadol (butorphanol) for Labor Pain "Quite possibly the worst thing I've ever taken. Within seconds I could feel my eyes rolling and the room was spinning. I felt like I wanted to sleep but felt like I didn't know how to breathe and if i had slept I would have stopped breathing. I just laid there waiting for it to be over. I threw up three times and finally started to feel the effects wear off. I will never take this during labor ever again. It gave me so much anxiety..."

For Pain "This nasal spray was very effective in stopping severe abdominal pain, vomiting and nausea. It worked for several hours when nothing else was held down. Why would doctors give oral medicines for vomiting when a nasal alternative is available?"

Stadol (butorphanol) for Labor Pain "I opted for stadol during labor pains while I was waiting for an epidural. I immediately regretted the decision. I was so disoriented that I barely knew where I was. I got very sick too. It was a horrible experience and all I could do was wait for it to wear off."

Stadol (butorphanol) for Labor Pain "They gave me this when I was at about 4-5 centimeters, I went into labor at midnight so I was on 0 hours of sleep and was in TERRIBLE pain. The put this in my IV and it was AMAZING. They told me I’d feel drunk and I DID, I then got an AMAZING 5 hour nap in, which was well needed considering I was in labor for 21 hours."

Stadol (butorphanol) for Labor Pain "I had this with my first child. It was awesome! I had been up a lot of the night with contractions and was exhausted that afternoon. I knew I didn't want an epidural so they gave me Stadol. It put me to sleep from 5-10 centimeters and they woke me up when it was time to push!"

Stadol (butorphanol) for Labor Pain "when i was in labor with my son, they actually gave me to doses of stadol through my IV and it knocked out my headache completely and eased the pain of my contractions slightly, but my son was on a nerve so i still ended up with an epidural afterward"

Stadol (butorphanol) for Pain "I was diagnosed with Icepick headaches. My Doctor prescribed Stadol Nose Spray. My directions were to use it when I felt the headache begin then stop when the headache disappeared. I started getting the symptoms and used the nose spray. It made me feel worse. The only way to explain it was I felt high. The feeling was so awful, so I immediately threw the nose spray in the trash. I read the other reviews and I'm happy to see others getting relief from this medicine. I wish I was one. Now I was waken up with the stabbing pain on the right side of my head with nothing but a prayer to get me through this."

Stadol (butorphanol) for Pain "Was very helpful. A dr prescribed stadol to me when I was 19. Before I realized it I was taking it even when I didn't really need and was quickly addicted. I've been addicted to opiates ever since. It's been a long rough road and I'm currently clean but this was so not worth the pain it helped. Dr.s should never prescribe this to anyone to take home and take whenever they want. In a controlled setting only."

For Pain "I was initially prescribed this for frequent migraines - I cannot take triptan meds so if Fioricet didn't work for a severe migraine, then I would use this. I have to say, it didn't always work for very long for the migraine pain. What it does work very well for is pain from my chronic kidney stones (I have permission from my doc to use it for the stones). Kidney stones are extremely painful, and when my Percocet does nothing for the stone pain, I take the Butorphanol nose spray. It has kept me out of the ER on many occasions."

Stadol (butorphanol) for Labor Pain "My labor went so quickly that my baby was born only 30 minutes after I checked in to the hospital. I asked for a pain med. & they told me it was ‘too late’, so they gave me Stadol. It didn’t help at all with the pain, but it did make me very loopy. Very disappointing. It probably caused my baby’s issue with not latching on right away, since it was administered only 15 minutes before her birth."

Stadol (butorphanol) for Labor Pain "This was given to me during labor, as my epidural failed. It made me CRAZY. I closed my eyes, and while I could hear people calling my name and slapping me on the cheeks...it was almost like I was out of my body...and I just didn't respond to them at all. I finally came around enough to deliver my son, but it still HURT. It didn't help the pain at all, just made me really high (and so annoyed). I don't remember holding my son for the first time AT ALL. Apparently I fell asleep, and when I woke up a few hour later, I was still all messed up. I asked my Mom who's baby he was! I also apparently told her I saw Jesus in the corner of the room, and that he was "really nice" (and I'm not religious). I now list Stadol as an allergy. Nevvvvvver, ever again. Ever,"

Stadol (butorphanol) for Labor Pain "It was pleasant at first, very euphoric. But then I began to hallucinate. I was convinced it was 1994 and I was my own mother. But the contraction were still just as painful and because I was out of my mind I could not prepare for them or breathe through them or anything. It was a very bad experience."

Stadol (butorphanol) for Labor Pain "I had an intolerance to this drug and it was horrible. And immediate! I became delusional and paranoid within a minute of it being put into my IV. I then became very sick and continued to vomit through my mouth and nose for 6 hours. My eyes kept rolling back in my head as if I was going to pass out- but with the constant vomiting I knew I could not fall asleep. I was given Stadol to alleviate pain caused by Pytocin (induced labor). I've no idea if it helped with that for it just gave me all new horrible symptoms(nausea, stomach and throat pain from constant vomiting, the worst delusions I've ever had)."

Stadol (butorphanol) for Labor Pain "I was given IV Stadol along with Benadryl, followed by an intramuscular dose of stadol for labor pains. It did exactly what the doctors said it would- it takes the edge off but you’ll still feel your contractions and they’ll still hurt. I also feel that its effects wore off relatively quickly. It’s a good choice if you’re looking to avoid the epidural shot but if you’re looking for complete pain relief, stadol won’t provide that. When given through an IV, you’ll feel the effects of the drug almost instantly."

For Pain "I was given Stadol a time ago while going to the hospital for a bad migraine. The medicine worked so well that I asked my Doctor if I could have a prescription, I took this medicine for over a year for all my pain. When first taking it, I was loopy. I had to take phenergan with it to control the naseau. But this pain killer was a blessing. I use to get sick from home movies and motion sickness. After taking thisI was able to watch home movies and even got to ride on a ride with my child for the first time in a while without getting sick. After my body got use to it, all I felt from it was releif. I am off it now and I had no side effects from stopping. I did not stop slowly either. It was not addicting at all . Not having pain was addicting"

Stadol (butorphanol) for Labor Pain "I was given stadol during induced labor, it was miraculous, however after 20 hrs, I was still not dilating. I was given an epidural and began hr long labor, stadol in conjunction with epidural, I finally was able to have child w/o surgical intervention. Was also given stadol post hysterectomy, via IM injections. Only drug that helped pain for both."

Stadol (butorphanol) for Pain "I'm a retired L&D nurse. Stadol/phenergan and then stadol/benadryl IV was given routinely for labor pain. I began self medicating with stadol/phenergan to treat severe insomnia. I found myself unable to stop without experiencing severe withdrawal symptoms. When I began abusing stadol in 1997 it was not stored with the narcotics nor was included in the daily narcotic count. I used for 4 years. I self reported to employee health and entered into treatment. Stadol, in my experience, has extreme abuse and addiction potential. I experienced extreme withdrawal symptoms for 5 days and then extreme cravings for years. I am clean today and have been drug free for over 18 years and was able to return to nursing (meeting all requirements of the State Licencing Board). I share this experience in the hopes of spreading more awareness, especially to healthcare professionals, on the potential abuse and addiction of stadol."

For Pain "I was recently prescribed this medication for migraines. I used it for the first time a few days ago for a migraine that lasted 11 hours. I took four doses over that time and experienced no relief at all. In fact, it made feel even worse- all spacey sick and dizzy- and not in a nice way. The only pain killer that has ever worked for my migraines was Demerol, and I don't see my doctor giving me that any time soon. Such a shame since Butorphanol sounded so good being a strong narcotic nasal spray, I was really hoping it would work."

Stadol (butorphanol) for Labor Pain "I was given stadol for labor pain management. While it helped me not to feel connected to the pain I didn’t like how it made me feel instantly. It forced me into a drowsy state. I couldn’t sleep and began having trouble breathing. Following my delivery I spent the first night crying because I couldn’t sleep And became paranoid and scared that I’d stop breathing in middle of night. Not only did I not sleep but the few times I dozed off it started off with a hallucination. It has been 5 days since I gave birth and I’m still having trouble sleeping at night. If any of you moms can give me some tips on what helped you ween this thing off out your system please do. Thank you."

For Labor Pain "I have been stuck in prodromal labor for over two weeks, and after a lot of talking into and lack of sleep, I agreed with my midwife to try 1mg (only half of the normal dose) of stadol with zofran to ensure that I get some rest. Not only did I not rest, but my contractions got stronger (still not productive) and more painful, the room was spinning, and I still threw up for the duration. It kicked up contractions to 2 minutes long with only 30 seconds in between on top of of the vomiting and dizziness. Not to mention that I became very difficult to deal with and talk to at this point. It made a bad and emotionally trying day even worse. I will never use or recommend this drug."
