Symptom Checker

Step 4: Read and complete the decision guide to learn more about your symptoms.

Swallowing Difficulty

Swallowing difficulty involving the mouth can be caused by a variety or problems. Examples are a dental issue such as poorly fitting dentures, inadequate chewing (due to mouth sores, missing teeth, pain with chewing, or not having enough saliva to moisten food), or a neurologic problem such as Parkinson's disease or a stroke. Discuss your swallowing symptoms with your doctor. A visit to the dentist could also be helpful.
