Risk of Iron Deficiency in Children

Babies should drink only breastmilk or formula before one year. Cow's milk, goat's milk, and soy milk (not soy formula) do not contain enough iron for growing babies, and drinking them can cause iron deficiency anemia. In addition, cow's milk can cause irritation of the intestine that can lead to bleeding, further increasing the risk of iron deficiency.
