Leukotriene modifiers, also known as leukotriene receptor antagonists, are a newer class of medicines that help prevent asthma symptoms by blocking the effect of leukotriene, a chemical released in the body when someone is exposed to their asthma triggers. Leukotriene modifiers, such as montelukast (Singulair) and zafirlukast (Accolate), are taken by mouth.
