Pronunciation: sŭl′fă-meth-ok′să-zōl
Definition: A sulfonamide related chemically to sulfisoxazole, with a similar antibacterial spectrum, but a slower rate of absorption from the gastrointestinal tract and urinary excretion. Often used in combination with trimethoprim (SMX-TMP).
