Lead is a toxic metal that affects the nervous system. It is absorbed primarily through the inhalation of lead dust and ingestion of lead products. Lead poisoning generally occurs slowly after repeated exposures. Lead poisoning may be mild or severe depending on the amount and time of exposure and frequency of exposure. Mild lead poisoning can be associated with hyperactivity, irritability, sleeplessness, lack of concentration, behavioral problems, and learning disabilities.
