Protopic (tacrolimus) for Atopic Dermatitis "I've used several different prescription creams for my eczema. I have continuous outbreaks under my eyebrow, and below my eye, near my mouth, my arms and occasionally outbreaks everywhere else. Protopic is the only cream that has worked so far but it was extremely greasy so I only used it at night (or I covered it). It only provided temporary relief (a cycle of relief, then misery) and it caused keratosis throughout my entire eyebrow. I had my eyebrows tattooed over 10 years ago. I have only used Protopic for a couple of years now and we believe the cream reacted to the ink in my skin by growing keratosis."

Protopic (tacrolimus) for Atopic Dermatitis "Cleared my eczema "moustache" that I've been battling for years in only a few days. I couldn't believe it. Also got rid of eczema under my eyes in the same time period. It was unbelievable. No burning. I used it on my hands when they got bad and on the inside of my elbow. Using it in the elbow caused it to feel unbearably hot when water touched the area in the shower, however I only used it for a week and it cleared the eczema there. Been clear for months. I will continue using this stuff it's been a god send for me."

For Atopic Dermatitis "I've been using Protopic and Tacrolimus for many years and like most users the first time I applied Protopic it the itching and the burning was CRAZY. But you get over that in a day or two and realize this ointment is a lifesaver. In fact it is the ONLY medicine that clears my face and I've tried them all ..."

Protopic (tacrolimus) for Perioral Dermatitis "Developed perioral dermatitis because of topical steroid use on my face. I have had 20 years experience with eczema. I only use SLS free facial and body products so I have maintained good skin habits for a looong time. Moisture is key. There are many brands that help tremendously with the condition. Stop using steroids on your face right now if you are. I went to see my dermatologist who prescribed Protopic and antibiotics, combined with emollient use and Rupanase antihistamine. I was expecting severe burning as per reviews but honestly only a few headaches and slight tingling all over. I know it is early days but really just see your dermatologist. Price is just quite high but what is the comfort of your skin worth if it works well? Keep moisturizing and cleansing with the correct products every day."

Protopic (tacrolimus) for Atopic Dermatitis "After months of trying many different steroid creams prescribed by my doctor, a dermatologist prescribed Protopic. Absolute miracle ointment. After two uses my skin had cleared up amazingly. I suffered bad for the last year with psoriasis on my face. I couldn’t cover with make up as it didn’t react well and just looked a mess. This has honestly changed my life and you would never know I even had psoriasis after just two weeks of applying. I was lucky and didn’t experience any uncomfortable side effects that many people mention such as burning. My face did few warm during the first 24 hours but nothing that was uncomfortable. Absolutely amazing stuff."

Protopic (tacrolimus) for Perioral Dermatitis "I had a very bad experience after applying the Protopic ointment on my cheeks and chin two times only. I paid $92.00 for a tube of 30g and can't use it because I got a huge burning sensation all over my face for 3 days and 3 nights. I had to sleep with an ice on my face and holding ice during a day. It looks like I was allergic to it and the horrible Pharmacy in Vancouver, BC would not give me my money back. I would never recommend this medication to anybody!!! I went to see my other clinic doctor, who said that Protopic tacrolimus 0.1% ointment is very strong. He gave me a mild compounded cream instead. I lost the money on Protopic 0.1% ointment and had to pay for my new cream again. Unbelievable...."

For Perioral Dermatitis "The first time you apply, you will have one INTENSE itching and burning sensation to the area. My area was around the nose and mouth area.. Keep applying the crème since this side effect will subside after a few days. I did feel some tingling in my lips area after the area healed. Other then that, this product works great!!!"

Protopic (tacrolimus) for Atopic Dermatitis "The first time I used this I only put it around my nose and down to my lip, it burned so bad immediately. I cleaned it off after an hour as the heat and the burning was bad. Even after this it burned all night, I had to have a fan blowing on me but that didn't help much. My whole face (not just the area I put it on) burned for over 24 hours even after washing multiple times. A month later I tried it again after my skin had calmed a bit and this time was much better, I didn't get the same burning just a slight heat from it. Another side effect I've had is that when the room I'm in gets warmer my whole face burns and gets very red, this lasts for hours. I've been using this for a month now but I've seen very little improvement with my skin, it's still sore, tight and burns and itches."

Protopic (tacrolimus) for Atopic Dermatitis "This product. -_- I've had eczema for as long as I can remember and now it's started to spread to new areas. Dermatologist prescribed this to use around face and neck as it's not a steroid. I was aware that it initially burns the first few times...almost to the point of rather dealing with eczema over the burning. (I've used it a handful of times now, as and when. It does soften the thick build up. However after applying the skin very sensitive to itching. Well...last night I itched my neck 2 hours after applying this...DO NOT DO THIS. I never knew "burning" had levels 10 times worse than experienced. Had to scrub the area and apply wet fannel for a good hour to calm it down. It may work, just not for the faint hearted."

Protopic (tacrolimus) for Atopic Dermatitis "This definitely works, but you must stick with it! When I first put it on my skin (face and neck only), it felt extremely hot and very, VERY itchy. I thought I was having an allergic reaction to it and/or my skin flare up was getting worse. After several hours the itching dissipated and my skin just felt hot in the worst affected areas - this wasn’t too bad at all. The redness also cleared up and my skin started looking totally normal (as if I didn’t have eczema). Pretty amazing result."

Protopic (tacrolimus) for Atopic Dermatitis "Using this cream makes my skin as smooth as a baby’s bum. It honestly does work on my eczema however I only use it on my face as I cannot stand the burning sensation It’s greasy and so I only use it at night but the burning hot sensation is not pleasant on the first application This is why I won’t use it on my arms and legs as I cannot stand feeling this way. It robs me of my sleep on the first night of application however second and third day the burning sensation seems to subside I tend to spend most the night sticking my head out of the window to try and catch some cold air. It’s just awful but it actually works which is why I persevere"

Protopic (tacrolimus) for Atopic Dermatitis "Developed eczema on my eye lids and hair line around my face. Itchy red and burning for a few months flare ups were painful. Dr prescribed cortisone but it was only temporary help. I did not to apply lots. Then dermatologist prescribed protopic. Yes, it burned for the first 72 hrs but it subsided and I was completely healed within a week! Such a relief. I only apply when I feel like a flare up is starting. Great for preventing."

Protopic (tacrolimus) for Perioral Dermatitis "I've been using Protopic (0.1% ointment) for about six years to treat facial seborrheic dermatitis. On the plus side, Protopic ended five miserable years of itching, redness and burning that no cream seemed to help, and for that reason I am truly thankful. On the downside, it's very greasy (similar to Vaseline) which means it stays on the skin all day if applied in the morning. Drinking alcohol is a definite no-no too, as a tiny amount causes an awful reaction, making the skin immediately burn bright red. Annoyingly, if I don't use Protopic for about two weeks, when I reapply it the skin burns and itches intensely for a few hours (REALLY uncomfortable). Using it more often, say twice a week, does however resolve this problem."

For Perioral Dermatitis "My perioral dermatitis began as a few small papules in the corner of my mouth, I started using a corticosteroid on it that I’d been prescribed for a different skin issue, and it went away… then came back a bit worse… and so began the cycle. I soon learned that I SHOULD NOT HAVE USED A CORTICOSTEROID!!! By the time I got to my Dr the papules had changed to dry red patchy skin around my mouth and chin, he prescribed Tacrolimus 0.1%. The warnings kind of scared me but I used it carefully and sparingly, the first night it tingled and itched but the difference after 3 days was amazing! After 3 days of usage I haven’t had any burning, redness is now minimal and it looks like my dermatitis will be gone in another 3-4 days. I will say that my skin constantly feels warm and tingly, it’s not unpleasant though."

"My dermatogist prescribed Protopic for my vaginal lichen sclerosus. The first application resulted to severe itching and burning. The next day was pretty painful. It felt like my skin was burning and raw and I was panicking! I called my dermatologist and she said it happens often to feel a hot burning sensation when using the medication and eventually it dissipates. After a couple of days the burning sensation disappeared slowly. I have been using the ointment since as needed for over 10 years with reducing how often I would apply it until my condition was under control. Today I still use the ointment from time to time when I feel that I get a flair up ( probably once or twice a month). This medication saved my life! I am forever grateful to the dermatologist that recommended it! After trying many different treatments, this is the only medication that worked and treated my condition successfully!"

Protopic (tacrolimus) for Atopic Dermatitis "I had a rash caused by insect bites so Doctor gave me Protopic he said it would get rid of rash. I had tried everything : calamine lotion, baking soda, tea tree gel with vitamin E, lavender rosemary oil & with hazel, well nothing got rid of rash also my skin cannot handle hydrocortisone cream & I cannot take benadryl. So I got the protopic & antibiotics. Yes it cleared it away brilliantly, however Doctor told me to use twice a day incorrect dosage. Did not warn me of evil side effects. My skin became mess soon as I stopped using remembering Doctor saying apply more if you had any problems, it would clear skin then get worse and worse leathery skin painful blisters ozzing nasty redness bumpy skin - Red Skin Syndrome."

Protopic (tacrolimus) for Atopic Dermatitis "A 45-year-old woman who has chronic eczema flares on my face, neck, and eyes worsening with perimenopause. I have used steroid cream historically on my body, but not on my face. I developed steroid-induced acne rosacea, followed by daily flares. Eventually, I was referred to a dermatologist who prescribed Protopic 0.03% to use daily on my face and neck. Having read reviews, I expected to be in agony, but apart from a slight flushing (nothing like the pain of a flare), within days my flares had subsided. I'm 6 weeks into using it and my life has changed for the better. I can now wear makeup that I never used to, even some perfumes. My skin looks clearer - I've never seen it so well-controlled. I hope this works for you because I've tried everything before this, including 3 months on antibiotics (oxytetracycline, lymecycline), which made me itch all over. I used to take antihistamines (fexofenadine) daily, so that I couldn't prevent flares. Now, I don't need to take them."

Protopic (tacrolimus) for Atopic Dermatitis "Patches, newer outbreak of atopic dermatitis not going away with desonide cream. Nasty breakout on right bicep and contact with that side of my body. You can feel and see heavy blotchy lines. Tried Protopic oinment this evening for the first time (Day 1), and yes I experienced the initial painful itching and burning experienced by so many. I put ice in a baggie directly on the affected areas and instant relief, although it probably dilutes the Protopic strength. I keep on icing as needed. I will do as so many of you recommend and hang in with it for a spell. I'm thinking twice a day until cleared. Thanks so much. I will report back on progress soon.- Brock"

For Atopic Dermatitis "I can't say this ointment failed to clear up the rash around my eyes. Unfortunately, the side effect is worse, because the rash began appearing all over my face. When I use a simple cortisone cream, the rash just disappears. I have tried more than once with Tacrolimus, but it seems to spread the rash as it works. So no, I am not satisfied with this product. Has anyone else experienced this?"

For Atopic Dermatitis "Definitely helps reduce some of the flaking skin around my eyes but when I used it it made my eyes feel very hot like I put my eyes next to a heater. Tried washing my face and the hotness still didn’t go away. It’s been almost 24 hours now and I can still feel it on my eyes. It’s not horrible by any means but I will probably not use this again unfortunately I don’t want the hotness getting any worse."

Protopic (tacrolimus) for Atopic Dermatitis "Burning sensation worsened over about 5 days of use. None the first time, then a bit after application, and now a severe delayed reaction (the next day, so I can't just wash it off), nearly constant, and worsened with water. Feels like exposure to jalapenos on sensitive skin like near the eyes. Hasn't had any effect on my eczema yet either. Can't stick it out to see if it gets better."

For Perioral Dermatitis "About a year ago, I developed a white patch close to my mouth (vitiligo) about 1 cm in diameter. I ignored it for a few months hoping that it would go away, but when then I went on holiday to the beach and the strong sun made it bigger and more evident. Moreover, three additional spots appeared on my chin. When I got back I went to dermatologist who said it was vitiligo and prescribed protopic 0.1 (tacrolimus) and within a month the first large spot had gone. I still have the little spots on my chin, but they are getting smaller (it has been 3 months now, but I am still hopeful). If you have vitiligo on your face and it's not widespread it may work for you too, but do consult a doctor, since the drug is not officially recognised as a cure for vitiligo"
