For GERD "Was commenced on Omeprazole 3 years ago for nausea and gastric discomfort. Didn’t work for me ... felt like a brick in my stomach. GP then prescribed Lansoprazole and with this the nausea returned. I was then commenced on Ranitidine which for me is a wonder drug. I’m now down to 150mg in evening. However I am concerned about the fact that there is some evidence to link this drug to some cancers. I continue to take it until more evidence is available. Have discussed with GP and she agrees."

For GERD "After spending my whole life with GERD and suffering from it in ways I hadn't even noticed at the time, this drug was amazing. The only annoying part was that I could feel it, almost like a blockage in the base of my throat when I took it, but that was a small price to pay for the ability to eat/drink whatever I wanted and not have to chew on Tums later. I think it had actually been prescribed for GERD-related bronchial spasms (though I'm not positive), and those went away as well. I was completely ecstatic while I was using this, though!"

For GERD "The compound ranitidine does not cause cancer. A possible cancer-causing (carcinogenic) agent was found as contaminant or unwanted by-product in ranitidine produced by two manufacturers: Sandoz Inc. and Apotex Corp. Since there is no information yet on how or why the contaminant is present in these generic preparations, it is uncertain at this time if this is likely in all current ranitidine products. It may be due to a variance in temperature during the manufacturing process or some other human error. I continue to use my round, orange “IP 253” pill from a different manufacturer."

For Hiatal Hernia "This medicine was given me after being diagnosed with hiatial hernia and gastritis. After two tablets of Ranitidine I started to get stomach pain, reflux, gas, dizziness, a headache and slight nausea. I have persevered for three days but not sure I can go on like this. The medicine seems worse than the cure!"

"I have suffered extreme stomach pains, which has turned into shock like symptoms and nervousness with not being able to eat my body and mind shut down. I was prescribed all sorts of medicines none of which helped me at all and often caused more problems. Until I was given ranitidine which is an actual lifesaver, works straight away. I can eat and feel like me again."

For GERD "I have been using Ranitidine for over 30 years and it has helped me a lot to continue my life and work. Since it was banned, the doctors have given me all the possible replacements and I'm useless. My life has become a nightmare. Bring Ranitidine back and leave the political games to the people. I am 60 years old and over time I have seen several drugs taken off the market for various childish reasons. It seems that if a drug works well, it is immediately banned and replaced with a two-penny placebo. These are just dirty games inside the pharmaceutical industry."

Zantac (ranitidine) for GERD "My GI doc placed me on ranitidine 300 mg twice daily and it has worked very well for me. I have both acid and non-acid reflux and had been on PPI's for many years. Since there is still research being conducted on PPI's long-term use he switched my medication. One can only get 300 mg with a prescription."

Zantac (ranitidine) for GERD "It works great and it's very cheap OTC in the store brands. My insurance still covers the 150mg zantac in the generic form. I prefer zantac over nexium and prilosec. Both of the PPI's worked well, but I am a chronic pain patient and for some reason while taking nexium or prilosec it would inhibit the morphine ER from absorbing enough and my urine screens wouldn't show the morphine in my system when it was in there. I would stop the nexium or the prilosec, it happened with both of these medications. After I would stop them, The urine test would start to detect the Morphine ER. test. Both times my doctor sent me to the hospital to get other drug tests that did in fact show the Morphine ER in my system, so after that she put me on Zantac and I haven't had anymore issues. It works great, I don't have ulcers or anymore heartburn. I take 150mg once per day."

For GERD "Been on this medicine for 5 years, two 150mg tablets morning and evening. Normally need to take Rennies at night for heartburn. Did switch to Omprazole for a week as felt it wasn't working, feeling out of breath after eating and not being able to burp but the dreadful side effects got too much so back on Ranatidine. For the last 6 days been feeling extremely tired and weak with lightheadiness. Doctor said my pulse is too slow and has arranged a heart monitoring test and blood tests in a fortnight. I now see a rare side effect of this medicine is heart damage/Bradycardia but doctor didn't mention this medicine could be the cause if it. I don't know whether to come off this medicine or not but maybe just take it at night? All I know is I'm too light headed to do much at the moment and I'm scared."

For Gastric Ulcer Maintenance Treatment "I took this after omeprazole (both OTC and prescription) started to lose its efficacy (and after my insurance decided ranitidine was the better/cheaper option). It gave me pretty severe flu-like symptoms almost immediately both times I took it, including dizziness, nausea, stomach pains, drowsiness, and even confusion. Eating and drinking still hurt, so this didn't work very well for me."

Zantac (ranitidine) "My condition is allergic swelling of throat, hive, lips, toungue, eyelid, hive over entire body Zantac + Zyrtec has been the ONLY thing that has allowed me to even live. Without it I'm in the hospital every other month for prednisone shots. I've used every allergy medicine on the pharmacy shelf and some that are not on there any more over the last 40 years and I don't know how it will SURVIVE with out the Rantadine/Zantac if it is kept it off the market."

For GERD "I originally was prescribed omeprazole and I felt sick all the time and my symptoms appeared to worsen and not get better. My doctor then switched me to ranitidine and I am so grateful to her. I’d say before my reflux was about 90-95% of the day , I’ve been only taking the medication for almost 2 weeks and I’d say the amount of time I have reflux is now around 5%. The drug is fantastic. And it works super fast too , I take my evening dose after my evening meal and I feel relief within 15 mins. The only side effect for me so far I can tell is constipation and I feel more fatigued in the evening. But I’ll take that for sure!"

Zantac (ranitidine) for GERD "I was in agony and vomiting 45 minutes ago, now after taking zantac I am exhausted, but pain free. Going to take a second pill so I get a full 24 hours of relief from pain and vomiting. My only qualm is waiting 45 mins for relief when you are in such pain seems like an eternity!"

For GERD "I was considered "special" and was taking 150mg Zantac and 40mg pantoprazole. The doctor varied my treatment over a period of one year but I was still complaining of burning tongue. Different doctor advised Zantac only as needed and 2-1/2 weeks later, I feel so much better."

For GERD "As I've just recently started taking Ranitidine HCL 150 mg tablets it is my desire to see it help to prevent all these heartburn attacks as I call them. I've been having several attacks feeling as if I'm having a heart attack several times a week. As of late it has got so much worse, and I'm not exactly sure why. I usually don't know stomach acid is being sent from my stomach upperward, due to my also having a hyial hernia. Where the hyial hernia is located is always where the pain starts and remains the worst. "The pain that is becoming much worse with each and every attack. Again as I've already stated It's my hope that with the use of Ranitidine HCL and Pantropazole that both these medications taken will stop this."

For GERD "best drug ever, I had a horrible pepper/spicy curry with burning sensation, trouble breathing, bad discomfort like I was in septic shock or something chest pains, spasms in the throat, within two days of taking 300mg of ranitidine per day it has got me back on my feet! I was on 60mg lansoprazole per day a month prior to this with not much of an effect I do take both together so it could be the both meds!"

For Indigestion "Always works for me. My indigestion is periodic depending on factors I haven't been able to pin down, so I don't take the drug before meals, but wait until I'm sure my stomach pain is rising. and then take two 75 mg ranitidine which reduce the pain within 15 minutes, and eliminate it entirely within 30 minutes. Antacids don't work for me."

Zantac (ranitidine) for GERD "The new Zantac 360 is identical to the ingredients of Pepcid. Zantac is trying to make a comeback by deceiving the public at a significant price increase compared to Pepcid. I guess what's even more amazing to me is that people buy it. Buffooniverse!"

For GERD "Ok folks I can only speak for myself ranitidine does work but the side effects are horrific for me, insomnia, anxiety, lightheadedness upset stomach the list is endless. To the extent my GP was going to send me down the mental health road. So I stopped taking em.. result; my anxiety down, sleep better , calmness good. It has been a nightmare 6 months, if I can help I would suggest you question the medication. It's a double edged sword, no gain without pain, but it surely should not be like this in the 21st century. I really do feel for you people you are not alone."

For GERD "19 years old, suffering from extreme acid reflux for the past year... after getting to the point where 4-6 Rolaids wouldn't cut it after a meal, I started on Protonix-- bad idea, make me so sick I couldn't stand it. Tried ranitidine next... so much better! I hardly ever feel sick, and when I do, it's only from super-spicy food. I love ranitidine!"

For GERD "I started having regular heartburn (everyday) when I was about 37 years. I was given ranitidine (150mg/day). It worked well. 2 years later I was pregnant and had awful heartburn. I jumped to taking 2 150 mg pills a day. 1.5 years later - I started having memory issues. Nothing major - but mixing up people's names, not being able to find the right word. I assumed it was lack of sleep due to having a young child. However, research pointed me toward vitamin b deficiencies as a cause of memory issues AND stomach acid inhibitors possibly blocking the absorption of vitamin b. I wonder if there was a connection between the 4 years of ranitidine and the memory? Also, gerd started after changing the birth control pills. Given my terrible heartburn during pregnancy, I wonder if the hormones caused the gerd. At 44 - I've been off birth control and off ranitidine for years. Heartburn occurs about 1x/month. Memory is better, but issues linger."
