Minipress (prazosin) for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder "This medication really put a stop to the nightmares, as well as the flashbacks for me. The side effects are very minimal (if I stand up too quickly - I get a bit dizzy), and it's really been nothing but a good thing for me."

For Post Traumatic Stress Disorder "I started taking this medication in August 2017 after having PTSD for 14 years. I had to get an increased dosage to 2mg due to a really bad PTSD attack. I have been noticing a lot of calmness but I occasionally have my nightmares but not as intense as they used to be. I recommend this to people like me that took them years even decades to be put on medication. BTW, DO NOT DRINK CAFFEINE WITH THIS MEDS BEFORE YOU GO TO BED.. YOU WILL BE UP ALL NIGHT."

For Post Traumatic Stress Disorder "Took my first dose of prazosin yesterday at a dose of 2mg - it is for my PTSD. After about an hour of taking, I got up to use the bathroom. I suddenly felt really weird like I was going to faint and went back to bedroom. I laid on my bed and started sweating for about 5 minutes. It slowed and then I got cold. Covered up and went to sleep. My dreams were not bad, but that first dose and the near fainting and sweating scared me. I want this to work, but I'm afraid to take another dose?"

For Nightmares "My night terrors aren't every night, but often they're multiple layers of night terrors in one night. I started taking this last week. First few nights I didn't notice anything, as I don't have night terrors every night. Last night, while on one mg of Prazosin, I had multiple layers of night terrors throughout the night and am going on one hour of sleep today. I don't have another appointment until early March. Maybe I need a higher dose?"

For Post Traumatic Stress Disorder "They do work to stop nightmares, all dreams in fact but the dose of 3 per night before bedtime makes me sluggish and tired in the day, lack of energy. If I come back to 2 at bedtime I lose the tired feeling in the day but have nightmares, not every night but sometimes. I do think this is a pretty good medicine for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder though as there are not many side effects. I read where like 7% experience what I do in being tired, lack of energy. If it were not for that side effect this would be wonderful for me. This is by far one of the best meds I have received from the VA for PTSD even with the side effects."

For Post Traumatic Stress Disorder "I had such terrible nightmares and night terrors for about 10 years I got to the point where I didn't sleep much. I was afraid to fall asleep. I craved sleep but couldn't. I was finally hospitalized. Staff documented I didn't sleep at all for the first 5 days I was there. Then sleep meds got me to sleep and nightmares with talking and screaming started. They added Prozosin which helps me. I still have nightmares sometimes but I am much improved. Side effects include extreme thirst, dry mouth and eyes. I also have to be careful about the dizziness it causes if have to wake up before my sleep cycle is finished. Bottom line, not sleeping caused so many problems I put up with the side effects."

For Nightmares "Started praz last December for PTSD & nightmares/night terrors. Tried doses 1-6mg (as high as the psych would go). My nightmares started to slowly increase, and now, I suffer from chronic nightmares. Also started an increase in PTSD-related flashbacks & hallucinations (auditory & visual) Told the psych, and she had me stop it entirely, and I cannot shake the nightmares. I feel like I wasted so much money on a POS med that dumped all the adverse effects on my system. 0/10, would NOT recommend!"

For Post Traumatic Stress Disorder "I take prazosin for PTSD. I am currently on 3mg at night time, a combination of a 2mg pill and 1mg pill, as my doctor ordered. It's a miracle medicine, helping me sleep, reducing nightmares, and even stopping PTSD flashbacks all day long. I am grateful to find such relief. No side effects for me other then what it's prescribed to me for. 10/10"

Minipress (prazosin) for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder "This medicine completely got rid of all of my nightmares the first night I took it. It has been a few months now and I've only gone up one more mg so it is still working great. For me though, the great benefit was that it got rid of all of my dreams not just nightmares and for me that was a big relief."

For Nightmares "I suffered from night terrors for more than 20 years. Nothing psych docs gave me worked. Situation changed and I had to change doctors which is usually scary, right? It was the best thing ever, new psych doc put me on Prazosin 1mg and it worked. I had some breakthrough nightmares increased the dose to 2mg and everything is great. No night terrors and no side effects."

For Post Traumatic Stress Disorder "My boyfriend was diagnosed with Bi-polar disorder and also suffers from childhood trauma PTSD. The medication alone he was still having his manic stages and his lows, but once the doctor added the minipress to take at night with his seroquel quetiapine, it created wonders for us. He has been very stable after only 30 days and we hope this progresses through out time."

Minipress (prazosin) for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder "I have had my pulse rate go way up and my blood pressure both systolic and diastolic go way down. My heart was pounding. But I find that with this medicine I can sleep a bit more and I had to quit taking my lisinopril in the morning. I still have nightmares but I can wake up and say to myself oh good I'm not there anymore and it was just a dream. "

For Nightmares "I have recurring nightmares due to PTSD, to the point of crippling daily trauma and was prescribed prazosin. The nightmares continued but in a new light, not as recurring, I found an ability to control them and break free of them, almost immediately after starting prazosin. When I miss a dose, the nightmares return in force, but it has been a LIFE CHANGER for my PTSD nightmares"

For Anxiety and Stress "I was having horrible nightmares due to a traumatic experience. I would wake up screaming to see this persons face. These occurred every night throughout the night. I was prescribed prazosin and they stopped. I was also put on effexor. I ran out of effexor and have no insurance. My nightmares came back so fast. Even with pazosin I was having the worst nightmares. I figured the two drugs needed to work together. After a long week of waking up nightmares of my life being taken. I was so afraid to fall asleep. Got my effexor back and they stopped again. They don't make me tired enough to sleep. I have horrible insomnia from longterm childhood trauma and then attacked in my adult life. Nothing really works for sleep except ambien. But found out thats worse for PTSD. I have tried every medication. They will work for one week and its over they will not work. Prazosin is great to stop nightmares but I seriously need to be knocked out to sleep."

For Nightmares "It's been 6 mos now and still works miracles for my PTSD night terrors! The combination I've found that works for me: read the Bible or listen to it from an app as you fall asleep, take 2 mgs of Prazosin, and a combination of anti-depressant (Prozac/fluoxetine) works best for me, along with an anti-anxiety med treatment for the day. My next step will be therapy when I'm ready to talk. Until then, this combination helps tremendously. Even with the other meds I would wake up soaking wet and fighting for my life in my night terrors. Prazosin somehow helps tremendously and was my missing link."

For Post Traumatic Stress Disorder "I know you have to wait at least 3-4 weeks. So far I'm on week 3 and still unsure if it works. First few nights on 1mg a day, I flipped up out of my sleep several times. Dr increased it to 2mg a day and I still can't get consistent sleep patterns. Some days yes and others no. One night I stayed up like I was on drugs. Finally passed out around 1am. Week 3, I've now gotten the "gotta go to the bathroom #2" side effect which my doctor says happens. It's like a sore stomach with diarrhea but not full blown diarrhea. The one good thing is my BP has responded to the meds. Less nightmares but then again I'm not really sleeping either. I'm still going to continue and see where it goes."

For Post Traumatic Stress Disorder "PTSD Trauma Nightmares & BPH. As dosage was slowly increased from 1mg to 4mg before bedtime, I went from 3-5 nightmares per night (triggering panic attacks that made it impossible to go back to sleep) to none. I now have weird dreams. I can deal with weird. Upped to 5mg to help with BPH. It worked for me."

For Nightmares "I have been taking this medication prazosin for less than a month, have worked up to 5 mg over the weeks. I have never had worse or more vivid nightmares ever and now it seems that I feel I'm still awake when they are happening and I cannot wake up and stop them. My partner has told me that she has never seen me in so much distress since taking this medication. Even last night I felt as though I was experiencing hallucinations and sounds of static in my head. I thought I was awake but unable to communicate my need for help, my partner said I was clearly sleeping and in distress. I awoke feeling like I was having a heart attack. I'm not sure what to do now."

For Post Traumatic Stress Disorder "After being diagnosed with PTSD, I was put on prazosin to help with horrible nightmares. I take a cocktail of other drugs which help with anxiety, hyper-alertness, and other symptoms. Even though I'm taking all this stuff I still have trouble sleeping and many times wake up punching, kicking and fighting. Prazosin has taken the edge off, though I still have really bazaar dreams. Plus, I recall everything. No side effects."

For Post Traumatic Stress Disorder "I'm finding that Minipress 2mg at bedtime helps me get a better night's sleep and reduces my nightmares and anxiety in my dreams. I'm considering requesting a higher dose and possibly getting a better result. But, I can say that the 2mg OPD has made a measurable improvement/reduction in my PTSD/nightmares."

For Post Traumatic Stress Disorder "Suffered years of PTSD post defence and then paramedic career, tried to manage medication free - poorly. Problems getting to sleep and staying asleep would wake regularly in a distressed state that would wake my wife and kids. Commenced on 1mg dose and also mirtazapine 15mg, after a few months of adjusting I am now on 2mg nightly and 30mg mirtazapine. On taking I am asleep within 30 mins and am sleeping through for 6 hours. Can’t remember when I last slept like this. Wake a little wonky but no thrashing kicking and talking, shouting in my sleep the wife tells me. So it’s working for me when others didn’t."

For Post Traumatic Stress Disorder "Took prazosin for PTSD, 1mg. First night, I actually had a restful sleep, ZERO dreams, super strange. But I woke up not knowing what day it was. Anxiety kicked in pretty hard and my heart has been beating like a drum. Not the most comfortable feeling, as I have had issues with my heart racing in the past which required surgery. I suffer from GAD, panic disorder, illness anxiety, PTSD, OCPD, mild depression and some physical illnesses. So, I am hoping these feelings pass. I'd like to continue sleeping comfortably, and wake up knowing what day it is. Hahhaha. Will update once I've been on this longer. Take good care everyone!"

For Post Traumatic Stress Disorder "I use this for nightmares related to C-PTSD. I was getting nightly terrors, just screaming nightmares every night related to flashbacks, I couldn't tell the difference between being asleep or awake and would wake up exhausted and stay that way throughout the day. With this drug, my nightmares have stopped, but I feel very dizzy and lethargic the next morning, and often more depressed. My sleep is much better, but the mornings are a write-off as I end up in tears for hours after waking. I guess the stress needs to escape somehow and instead of through sleeping, I get more of an effect upon waking. The drug does work to get rid of the nightmares, though."
