For Opiate Withdrawal "For anyone who is refusing to take methadone because of the daily visits and/or cost, just think - it takes a lot less time to visit the clinic every day, than the time spent on contacting your dealer and scheduling a meet up. Going to the clinic is also safer and legal and in addition to that, they provide you with counselling and they teach you how to cope and deal with negative emotions in ways that do not involve opiates . The counsellors teach you about healthy hobbies because boredom can kill sobriety. Don't be like the people that are trying to get high off of methadone and don't let the mix of unstable patients that you commonly see at clinics, scare you off from getting help. I know that it can make for an uncomfortable environment sometimes but If you are compliant with the program, you will get take homes and that's less time that you have you spend at the clinic"

Methadone Diskets (methadone) for Opiate Withdrawal "Starting methadone was definitely one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life. I look much healthier, and on top of all that I got an excellent job. Now I don't have to worry about being sick, methadone is amazing!"

For Chronic Pain "I was discharged from the U.S. Army for medical reasons. Carrying 100lbs plus of gear a day caused a disk in my thoracic spine to herniate. I was on oxycodone 30mg for 4 years but hated the side effects. To stop taking the oxycodone and still manage pain, I take 55 mg of methadone daily in liquid form. Where I live, opiate addiction is at an all time high so doctors are VERY wary of prescribing any type of opiate. Methadone, however, is an opiate analgesic. I still take oxycodone for breakthrough pain and that's why my methadone dose is relatively low. At higher doses, methadone can act as an opiate blocker so narcotics are ineffective. If you're having trouble getting methadone, go to a local clinic! They aren't just for addicts."

Methadose (methadone) for Opiate Withdrawal "Methadone has once again helped me get clean for almost a year. I detoxed off of it 12 years ago & yes it was tough but possible. Take it nice and slow when detoxing and consider a blind detox so you cant convince yourself your feeling a drop in your dose. If you can afford Suboxone I would suggest that over Methadone for easier detox."

For Chronic Pain "Best pain medication I have been on. Started because it was one of the cheapest and long acting. The only major problem is that it destroyed my teeth. It does not make me feel high just normal, it is however a very difficult medication to stop taking. I would not give up my methadone for any other treatment, especially suboxone."

For Pain "Methadone can be very useful for some types of chronic pain. For those who need larger doses of narcotics, methadone does not cause tolerance like morphine or oxycodone so you do not have to keep raising the dose to keep your pain in control. It does take time to kick in so be patient. Oxys or MS can be given to help till Methadone kicks in. Any narcotic can have side effects like constipation. A good doc will help you PREVENT such problems. As for comments that kick backs and conspiring with drug companies, we are under intense monitoring as some people sell the drugs to others or overdose and die. We must see patients often to prevent problems like this. If not, we loose our license or get sued. It's called good medical care."

For Pain "I have been in chronic pain from a rare spinal muscular disorder for 11 years. For 6 years I took all kinds of pain relievers and still suffered greatly and almost to the point of losing my mind. Finally I was put on methadone and it has relieved my pain far better than anything else. But im afraid the FDA is going to stop usage of it for pain. My doctor told me that we needed to write our congressman and tell how much we really need it."

Methadose (methadone) for Opiate Withdrawal "Methadone is wonderful for opiate withdrawal and pain management. My doctor had prescribed me Percocets and Oxycontin for a year, for pain. When she cut me off, the withdrawals were too much. She recommend methadone for the pain and withdrawals. I have been on methadone for 1 year 7 months and been clean for one year as May 2012. The benefits include withdrawal and pain management but side effects may include weight gain, but it does subside once you are on a stable dose, eat properly and exercise daily. Good luck to everyone who is on methadone it works!"

For Chronic Pain "After five years of Methadone I am now reducing the doses from three per day to only two per day of Methadone 10 for chronic pain management. At my age I am knowledgeable of the risk for increase memory loss due to the use of Methadone and age, so try and cut back on the risk of memory loss. It is necessary to reduce my dosage as I have indicated, but it brought me the experience of withdrawals issue which were terrible. As I said, finally I am on two per day at 10 mg of Methadone and the effectiveness has been felt and now requires the use of Norco once or twice per day when needed."

For Chronic Pain "Methadone worked very well for my chronic pain especially the strange gnawing pain I had ALL OVER. I was on 30 mg of ocycodone for 5 years (DDD L5-S1 fibro, neuropathy, neck fusion) but I couldn't come to terms with the stigma and knew something was seriously wrong with my body. I ended up doing my own research and found out I was suffering from gout throughout my body. My PM Dr worked with me to get me off Methadone by prescribing me didulud ER..even with that I had hellish withdrawal symptoms! Took me a month and a half and was only on it for 2 and half months. Great med for pain though. Just make sure you're in it for long haul. Never felt those withdrawals and I weaned off oxy 30s with less pain."

For Opiate Withdrawal "Do go onto methadone then taper off, it got me clean but if I had rehab or any kind of help I'd been clean 10 years ago. If you have to go onto it do then stop. You are not clean on methadone and the people who supply it to you , use it as a way of controlling you. Your brain chemicals may change after prolonged use but they change back. Get will power rewire your brain, I have used class A drugs every day of my life since I was a teen then methadone for nearly 20 years. I tapered myself off it is easy if you do it slowly and your way. You can do it. Exercise, change your whole life. If you want it you can. If not there is no shame in staying on methadone but you will never be free and it will always be used against you. I've never met a good cpn, Ive never met a nice nurse or doctors. I think they do not like you if you are on methadone, or I feel they think you are scum. Use this energy to get clean. I did and am now involved in the legalisation of all drugs and REAL help for people"

For Opiate Withdrawal "My husband and I had a severe OC habit.. He has chronic pain and the doctor would literally throw painkillers at him 150 OC's a month. I took them as sad as it sounds to get high. I thought "Wow something that takes away my depression and keeps me going at work, I could work a twelve hour day at the office, go to the gym and have dinner on the table. Then everything spiraled out of control. We almost lost our home to foreclosure as we were spending 500 a day on our habit. We even had to sell one of cars to keep our home. We have been on Methadone for 5 months and it has given us our lives back. I would recomend to anyone with chronic pain as my husbands is now managed successfully for the first time in 10 years."

For Chronic Pain "I have had the same experiences as many others - chronic pain. I have tried all prescription pain relief which has led to dependency. This has been helped by methadone. However, it surprises me that this page reads like an endorsement for the drug... methadone IS still a drug and a highly addictive one, at that. I have read people saying 100 mgs/day and 10 years of use. Methadone can be effective but, it is not an ideal substitution for other drugs, There is a bad stigma attached because it CAN be dangerous. I hope that no one chooses to self- medicate after reading these comments and I most definitely don't want kids to get the impression that it is safe to take in such high dosages or at all without a prescribing physician. Good luck to everyone."

For Opiate Withdrawal "The 1st time I got on methadone was because I failed at getting sober in withdraw clinics more than 5 to 6 times so someone told me about methadone I tried it and was successfully sober for a year and then tried to withdraw and was not successful wind down too fast so went back. Now I have been on methadone now for 7 years I have noticed my testosterone level has gone down tremendously but I have to say I have been sober saved lots of money and my life has been better .My counter says The Secret is learn to live sober then learn to withdraw slowly as possible you did not become an addict overnight."

For Pain "I have osteoarthritis in my spine, knees and hips, made worse by all the lifting I have done over the years as a nurse.I was prescribed Dihydrocodeine on a long term basis and unfortunatly fell prey to opioid addiction as well as the chronic pain. Three years ago I was referred to pain clinic and opioid dependency clinic where I was put on Methadone 70mls daily. I have never looked back. I now live a 'normal' pain free life. Methadone should lose it's stigma in society though."

For Pain "I have been on methadone for the last 5 years now and actually have a life beyond the usual opiate daze!I have a pretty high dose of 190 ml per day but have had a few times when I had blood clots that I needed something added to it for a few weeks, usually oxycodone, this helps but the beauty of it is I don't get the typical "high" one would get from it because of the methadone, but I do get the benefit of the pain management from it!Methadone saved my marriage and my life! I encourage anyone who has been on opioids and is having difficulty functioning their day to day life to give it a try.I know only certain Dr are aloud to prescribe this medication but there are always methadone clinics they're very knowledgeable about this! Good luck!"

For Opiate Withdrawal "This drug saved my life. I was an addict, but loved the narcotics especially. In early 1980s I got on methadone. They were concerned because I was a poly drug abuser, So they kept my dose low. I jumped off once at 50mg after being on for over six months and didn’t have any withdrawal symptoms! Then I got on a maintenance amount and I didn’t have a desire to use. I was on about 3 years. When it was time to come off, I went down 1 mg a week from 50 mg. I made it through. I stayed clean. I was the only success at that time in a major city in the NW. Now 30+ years later I am in chronic pain and would like the same medication - a good med for addiction and chronic pain. Yes, withdrawal does last a long time, I’d give it 6 weeks, but for last few weeks it’s mostly fatigue. Chins up peeps, One day you’ll wake up and it will be over!"

Methadone Diskets (methadone) for Opiate Withdrawal "It's helped me from my dependence and it really works well to stave off withdrawal. The negatives outweigh the positives for me. This drug has caused me to gain a lot of weight mostly from fluid retention. It's very hard to come off you have to taper very slowly like a mg a week or you'll feel like crap. If you don't have insurance you have to pay $400 a month where I live this is going to a methadone clinic. This drug also cuts off your sex drive I used to be a very sexual person now I have little to no desire for sex anymore. If you're on a high dose on most days you'll feel out of it and very sleepy so it's important that you tell your doctor/nurse the truth about your dose you don't want to be on too high nor too low of a dose."

For Chronic Pain "Started taking Methadone 2 1/2 weeks ago and have felt better these last 2 weeks than I have in over 10 years! Can function now without terrible pain, I have energy, i'm motivated to do things I haven't in a very long time. Thank God for this wonderful medication that has numerous advantages for someone like myself with many health problems who don't want to be on pain meds ever again. The stomach cramps and diarrhea from having my gall bladder removed are gone now too after 1 1/2 years of dealing with it. It seems like i'm also feeling better in the mental aspect of my life now too! I'm getting my life, family and happiness back!! Only wished I would have started this years ago."

For Opiate Withdrawal "My experience with Methadone is both good and bad. The doctor started me on a low dose at first and gradually increased me 8mg every week until I met my dosing level at 150mg. It did wonders for my life while I was on Methadone. The reason that I rated it at 5 was because when I was ready to start weaning off I didn't know how fast they were going to do it and when I had my last dose I had withdraw symptoms worse then the heroin withdrawal symptoms. My recommendation to anyone who wants to get off any kind of opiates just check your self into an intense rehabilitation that will cater to your needs because withdraw is real and it caused me to have a mild stroke at the age of 31. Really the best advice is to never use/abuse opiates."

For Pain "About 15 years ago, I was diagnosed with Lumbar Stenosis & went through the Epidurals (12) over the 1st 5 years to keep from Surgery. I tried all the Pain medicines out there, but could not tolerate most of them, due to a very low tolerance for most pain medicines. I have bad nausea &/or constipation. Then finally my Pain Doctor had me try a low dose of Methadone and it worked. It gives me 0 side effects, with enough pain to know my limits. I still play at a high level of Softball for 13 more years & recover thru 2 Back Surgeries. I just had my 3rd Back Surgery & now have Fibromyalgia, but I am still on the same 10mg of Methadone. Without this medicine, I would not be working today."

For Opiate Withdrawal "I made the mistake of taking methadone for 6+ years. It first was given to me for substance abuse, which kept me clean. 2yrs later I learned I was diagnosed with Lupus, Fibromyalgia, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Neuropathy, and my teeth are breaking from lack of bone nutrition. So now I take it for pain. Methadone has caused my teeth to fall out. And doctors say methadone assisted in these diagnosis. I'm stuck on it now per doctors orders, if not the withdrawals could kill me since I also have high blood pressure. I recommend if anyone does get methadone to just use it for 3-6 months at no higher that 65-75mg. The higher you go the more tolerance your body makes. Please research the drug to see if your a good candidate for short/long term use."

For Chronic Pain "I have been prescribed Methadone on and off for about 18 years. I have chronic pain from fibromyalgia, degenerate disc disease, TMJ, and presently hammertoe and a bone spur on my foot. This medicine was first prescribed due to inability to afford Oxycotin. This medicine was first prescribed at a 40 mgs dose. I found this medicine to work better than the previous medication. Years later, I went to another pain clinic and they prescribed it at 20 mgs. It has worked great for 3 years. It is time for an increase. The only thing I don't like is the stigma of being a medicine for drug addicts. I have chronic pain, I don't consider myself to be a drug addict."

For Pain "I've had chronic pain as a result of a coiling embolization in my brain.I was tried on so many different pain meds I thought about throwing in the towel...the cure was worse than the pain at times.Thankfully,my doctor suggested methadone.I've used this medication for over 5 yrs now with no complications other than having to increase it yearly to accomidate the tolerance effect.I also like it because it is inexpensive and doesn't leave me feeling high or goofy."
