For Diabetes, Type 2 "Metformin was recently added to my Type 2 Diabetes Meds . I take 2000 mgs a day in divided doses with each meal. It's rough on the Stomach for sure . I'm 62. Seems to keep my sugar levels well controlled and it helps you loose weight. Get some Zofran from your Doctor to help with the nausea . Will update my experience in a few months. God Bless ."

For Diabetes, Type 2 "I am on slow release metformin (1500 mg), & since changing away from the regular type,12 years ago I have zero loose bowels. You must insist to have a chance to try this much better version, if frequently bothered by the standard pills. Even more important, Please look up this fairly obscure nutritional cap...PTEROSTILBENE. It has proven to be a near miracle to free me from diabetes symptoms. I still take metformin, & only a doctor call put you on that med. But it works pretty darn well...but if you take METF along with PTEROSTILBENE, diabetes is largely controlled. Almost like a true cure...except you have to continue both. Pterostibene is found in the skin of blueberries, and a few other plant sources. I take 2 50mg caps, daily. Morn.& night"

For Polycystic Ovary Syndrome "I was diagnosed with PCOS at the age of 16 and at the age 18 I was told I would never conceive a child let alone carry to full term because of my PCOS. I have been on metformin sense then I am now 29 yrs old and just had my 3rd child all because of metformin. I'm not going to lie this medication has its ups and downs but I've learned over the years to take it an 1hr before my meals and always on time never skip a dose. I am now dropping weight like butter and I am currently on microgestin for birth control methods."

For Diabetes, Type 2 "I have found this medicine for type 2 to work extremely well. I have had to use many other meds for my type 2 diabetes; and found myself on one heck of a roller coaster ride with high and low and no middle ground. This particular med is great for me, and it helps keep my appetite in control. The apeptite issue is from another med, that I will not mention"

For Insulin Resistance Syndrome "Took anti-depressants for over 25 years. Had given up when I was diagnosed with insulin resistance. A friendly doctor prescribed 1,500mg Metformin daily. Great relief from my symptoms which only later were discovered to be the result of Hereditary Hemochromatosis. I am 66."

For Polycystic Ovary Syndrome "I love all the reviews here. Love seeing how open women are to discussing such a personal issue. So here's my story, I never had regular periods, maybe 2-3x times a year. I got married at the age of 24 and after a year or two of trying I went to a doctor and she said it may be pcos. Never really went back to that doctor(wasn't crazy about her). At the age of 28, I said enough is enough, headed to a fertility clinic where they definitely said I had pcos. They started me on metformin as well as Ovasitol (a supplement for women with pcos...it's pretty new, however ladies these 2 together....MIRACLE!!!!) after just 5 months on these 2 drugs and one round of femara(a pill you take for 3-5 days that help with ovulation) I was pregnant. good luck!"

For Diabetes, Type 2 "I'm actually pre diabetic. I've been on this drug for 3 weeks. I've lost 9 pounds. Saw my doctor today because things taste very salty to me. I'm having wild dreams, sweats/then cold, and absolutely no appetite. We talked and I'm going to continue for another 10 days until I'm seen again. Does anyone else on this medication experience any of what I am."

For Polycystic Ovary Syndrome "I have always had issues with irregular periods since my first period at 17 years old. I summed it up to my body just being complicated. When I turned 25 my periods started getting farther and farther apart. I'd have a 25 day cycle and then he next would be 90 days. I ended up in the ER with two ruptured cysts and one the size of a baseball. After years of feeling tired all the time and strange hairs on my breasts and random places I was finally diagnosed with PCOS. I had also been trying to conceive for one year. My doctor started me on metformin 500mg once a day. Just 3 weeks later I conceived and 9 days after that I had a positive pregnancy test. After a entire year of trying!!! I feel so much better on this medicine."

For Polycystic Ovary Syndrome "Metformin works!! After 2 months of taking 500mg a day I had regular periods and after 6 months of taking 500mg a day I'm now pregnant also in 5 months I lost 3 and a 1/2 stone by doing absolutely nothing different except metformin. Reduced PMS symptoms. Yes sometimes it made me feel queasy but that was only when I had a empty stomach, my advice to you is keep going stop worrying about it and give it a chance. If you think too much into problems it usually only makes them worse. Good luck ladies xx"

For Polycystic Ovary Syndrome "Started taking Metformin(500mg/day extended release) 4 days ago after being diagnosed with PCOS. Pretty sure I've had it since my teens, but was only diagnosed last week at 28 years old. My last period was months ago, and after just 4 days of Metformin, my period started! Couldn't be happier! I felt the effects almost immediately. My energy is way up, I'm not craving food as much, I seem to feel fuller for much longer. I've had no negative side effects other than a slight dry mouth. Hopefully the weird hair growth will also slow down. Will update as things progress."

Glucophage (metformin) for Diabetes, Type 2 "I had diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, headaches and muscle pain. It did not control my blood sugar either. I never want to feel like that again. But on the other hand my husband is able to take it with no side effects and it keeps his blood sugar between 90 and 130."

For Polycystic Ovary Syndrome "Have lost 7 pounds in less than a month of taking metformin, for my PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome). Can see the change physically in my face and stomach, as well as been told it by others, and on the scale. My hormones are also regulating themselves (having a period naturally for the first time in forever). Happy and proud of the results. My body has needed this for a long time, in both aspects. I do have diarrhea as a side effect, but I'd rather deal with that and lose weight."

For Polycystic Ovary Syndrome "I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome 18 years ago. My experience has been horrible. Very irregular cycles. Ranging from massive bloat, extreme flow, severe cramps, night sweats and facial hair. I maybe have 3 periods every 2 years. Finally my doctor put me on Metformin. The side effects for me are pretty bad. Mainly stomach pain and diarrhea. I work through it because I know my body will adjust. I've heard great things about this medicine and I'm willing go through a little discomfort to improve my irregular cycle."

For Diabetes, Type 2 "It took 1000mg twice a day to knock my sugars down about 100 points, A1C of 10 to around 7 in a few months. Probably would have done better with other lifestyle changes. I'd actually rate metformin a dang good laxative more than a diabetic med, but ahh well. I got used to it, and that side effect helped me eat less."

For Diabetes, Type 2 "I was prescribed metformin 500mg twice a day. After a week I looked nine months pregnant from bloating. Also experienced flu like symptoms: lower intestinal cramping, low backache, stomach pain, fatigue, generally feeling bad, low energy. I quit and went on to try other drugs but could only tolerate Januvia, with moderate success; now insurance won't cover it and I'm on Basaglar insulin with the only side effect of weight retention/almost impossible to lose. I'm so annoyed that doctors, nurse practicioners and pharmacists pump up all these drugs and how great they are without telling you about side effects, then show no empathy to your when you tell them you're having them. One provider even asked if I was imagining side effects!"

Glucophage (metformin) for Polycystic Ovary Syndrome "I have been using it for 2 months now and it has helped me so much. I have been able to lose weight. Which over the past 4 yrs I have had trainers and everything else anyone tries to lose weight, with very heart breaking results. This has helped with my moods as well. It hasn't been that long, but I wish this could have been figured out years ago. I've made more progress in 2 months than I have in the past 4 years."

For Polycystic Ovary Syndrome "I am 27 and I have PCOS and endometriosis.I was told to lose 20kg before I could be operated to remove the endo. My doctor prescribed me Metformin 500mg for the first week and thereafter increase it to 1000mg a day. It's my 9th day of being on Metformin and I have lost 2.25kg in this time. My goal is to get to 55kg and I'm currently 71kg. I haven't really experienced the awful diarrhoea however I have been getting crazy heart palpitations. Also, when I increased the dosage I found that within the day I would experience some bad stomach cramps but that's about it. Hoping to achieve my weight loss."

For Insulin Resistance Syndrome "I am overweight and turned out I have quite severe insulin resistance, though glycose, insulin and the HbA1c were within the normal range. I was snacking all day, being ravenous most of the time and was eating quite a lot, including junk food. I've been on Glucophage XR for a little over three months, with the dose slowly increased to reach 1500 mg a day. Initially I had diarrhea, bloating, gas and all sorts of stomach issues, but within a couple of weeks after starting it, things settled down. I feel well now, my blood work results on the third month show a great improvement. My appetite has decreased significantly and I no longer feel hungry all the time. I stick to three meals a day (about half the amount I used to eat) without any snacking in between. I have also cut on carbs, pasta, bread, rice, potatoes and meat. Since starting Glucophage in the end of May, I have lost 9 kg (almost 20 pounds). Overall, I am very satisfied with the results."

For Polycystic Ovary Syndrome "I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 22. I opted to have a child and there was no difficulty. PCOS didn't bother me not until the year 2013. My weight increased from 48kg to 55kg and this year 2015 to 66kg not to mention the acne and hair growths and infertility. Missed my periods for 6 month now. this causes me depression and insecurity. I am starting to take metformin today at 500mg/day and I am hoping that this will help me just like to others with PCOS.will update soon..."
